Well, Portugal is actually a good choice. They did not have nearly as much issue with coronavirus as Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the UK did and they have good stadiums and are a football force after all.

Is this confirmed or only a rumor? I tried Googling it but could not find it written on any relevant sources.

The bigger loss is next year, hoping for a fast develpment for the vaccine.

I think the club will start considering a reduction in player salaries to avoid losing more money, even a team that has a lot of money will think twice about paying players with a normal salary if they lose a lot of money during the entire season next season. With this condition, I'm sure the players will also agree considering the club wants to survive in times of crisis as well as players, who certainly do not want to play in other clubs with lower salaries.

I hope so, hopefully not only Vietnam can freely bring supporters to support the club from the stands.

It is literally said already that the reason is economical. I mean one of the main reasons to apply for a champions league finals to be hosted in your city is to make money, you spend a ton of money to cover all of that possibility, but even if you spend tens of millions of dollars eventually thanks to everything you make that back, you also earn a huge amount of money from the tourists that comes to your nation which is not just people who will go to the game but also people around them too, which comes to on average 70 thousand people just for a game, and having 70 thousand additional people on your nation is millions of dollars in revenue no matter how you look at it.

Now that it is (probably) not having any viewers, there is really no need to spend all that much money to host this game neither hence why Istanbul withdrew. Purely financial reasons and nothing secret going on I assume.

There is no official confirmation yet but German newsletter Bild is relevant source in my opinion.
I don't understand German and can't search for the original news in German language.

Any way,  UEFA will have formal meeting  in June 17 so very soon we will hear news from official source.

In addition to Lisbon, Frankfurt and Moscow also applied for the hosts but their applications were rejected due to the large number of coronavirus patients.

Seems like a very odd decision because Portugal and Lisbon both recently just opened their borders and said even to UK tourists that they are all welcome to come and visit,,, when every other city seems to be still preventing travel, these guys are actually asking UK to come and we know the Brits still got high cases!

If Portugal opens the border to tourists then it will be very dangerous later if the finals take place there now many in Europe are the biggest case and therefore unless confined to strict security and have to check in more detail.

And as the final CL has not yet been decided then there is still time to find a more sterile place to prevent many infections from occurring when the finals occur.

^  In his defense the 'evidence' did start from a leak made by a German news outfit based on leaked emails.  So let's see what City has in its appeal.  I think the ban could be dropped due to some technicality.

I guess if Lisbon took care of their Covid problems and can open borders, that means either of two things. Either they are really taking care of this covid thing much better than any other city in the world, or they are just looking to make some money this way to living up the economy once more. I don't know which one is true but Portugal doesn't look like a shady bad country, they are usually very chill and very cool to be around, so I assume they are actually doing pretty well.

Plus this is just champions league, all in all maximum a thousand people I assume will be there for playing, don't know about visitors in the stands or if the games will be without fans again but if there is no fans, that means it couldn't really hurt more than regular seasons who started already.

Well, situation in Portugal isn't that bad, especially compared with Turkey, where final had to be played initially. So, probably it's not bad choice. But nowmost of European countries have opened their borders partially, for people from certain countries where number of infections isn't big. So, there may be alternative final venues announced.
Though, remaining games will be played without spectators, there will be limited number of people in stadium, so I think it's not big difference where it will be played exactly.

The UCL is a big competition with all the best clubs from the too leagues, I think being a City staff or fan without the club being in the competition would be weird and could lead to a lot of exits. Guardiola has played in every UCL competition since he began coaching and even though he has expressed his desire to honour his contract till 2021, he may not be staying long after then.
If the ban is upheld it would take the club a couple of years to recover.

With sanctions given to Mancity will certainly make fans feel weird because Mancity is the biggest club in the English league that has many supporters and has won several titles, so Pep Guardiola will probably survive even though this sanction has been given later so I think Mancity will recover enough even if next season does not enter UCL

it would be weird without teams from Manchester, if United gets their place, it will be same as few years ago, so would not call it weird

there is a lot of money entering Premier league, but this CL competitions proved that money is necessary but is not enough to be part of the elite, all Premier league clubs are left behind in this stage, comparing to previous season, it is totally unexpected, hope that Bayern will won the title this season, and Atalanta to do well, one more round will be great

 I really hope Pep would just leave, I get that he has a contract and he says he is a man of his honor bla bla bla but this is business, being the manager of a team that will not go to champions league due to cheating the system is not really honorable neither, you can get out and manage another team and give the cheating as the excuse and nobody will say anything to you.

 There are many teams that would love to have Pep and you could probably find a championship contender level of team for him as well, that way he will still be in talks of being one of the best managers in the world instead of being the manager of the team that can't go to champions league and has to just stay at premier league trying to win championships.

Well, that depends on what you call as big.

Is it the richest?
Is it the most wanted club for players?
Is it the one with most wins in the Premier or Cl?

I do not really buy into all of this City becoming the biggest over night thing, United was big for around 3 decades, when did City moved beyond them and became the biggest right away, sure they are either the best team or second best team NOW but being a "big club" is not just past 5 years, it is not past 10 years neither, you have to look at the whole history of the teams (okay maybe after 1970's) and I feel like there are many other bigger clubs than City.

The thing about City that they spent so much money on their team to actually become good that they eventually had to break financial fair play rules to keep it up, otherwise they couldn't be this good, which is cheating and if you became good by cheating that really doesn't even count in my mind, everybody could be good by cheating.

All this clubs,  Manchester City,  Chelsea,  Paris SG etc. became strong and "big " almost overnight because of the same reason.
Some reach man with suspicious history wanted public recognition and decide that professional football club is the best way to achieve it.
Of course nobody can buy history but they wants instant success and don't care about fair play or fair competition.
I hope we will see justice in the case with Manchester City and this will be good warning for others who also trying to cheat with finance.

I also am not a big fan of the clubs who become really good only recently because multi billionaires have bought them and have spent a lot of money for the club.These clubs like Chelsea which is almost history now regarding to being a strong club will not stay competitive at this level for long.I like teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona which are strong from decades and still going strong.

The teams made strong lately are only good as they add some competition to the Champions League.
