England are putting up a decent fight at the moment courtesy of Root who clearly stopped forcing himself to use the Bazball approach which turned out to be the right decision because Bazball is overrated.

I would not call it overrated, it worked for Duckett in one of prior matches. But, to some like root, it just doesn't suit, better stick with what works for them.

Yes, Siraj was expensive early on but you look on overall economy, no? Inning haven't finished yet and his ER is already coming on par with other bowlers. Also, both wickets he took were important (Foakes and Hartley), although I don't think those were peachy deliveries — the ball Hartley got out on looked beauty at first but in slow motion replay, it rather looked liked Hartley didn't judge ball proper.

The wicket of Foakes was important. I agree. But what about Hartley? We are talking about a lower order batsman. Anyway, England has reasons to be happy. Crossing the 300 mark itself is a big achievement, and they still have 3 wickets remaining. If they can get past 350, then the Indian dressing room will be quiet. And don't forget the fact that England won the first test. So far in this series, the team batting first have won everytime. Things will be a bit more clear by end of the day's play tomorrow.

Hartley can bat, and with Root on other side, they could musher up big partnership and be a headache as Foakes-Root partnership. Whether England can cross 350 will largely depend on how long current pair remains on crease, as one them gets out, it'll be game over for England as neither Anderson or Bashir can bat.

I wouldn't say England is on top just yet. We need to wait and see the final total and how India responds. yeah a decent day for England, but they need to keep it up over the next few days. It's definitely an improvement from the last test. Joe Root is playing his natural game, scoring fluently and at a decent rate. His partner Robinson is also playing his natural game, which is important for setting a big target. It's hard to say what a decent total is. We can't be certain until both sides have batted.

Actually it was Mark Wood who troubled the Indian batsman last time. Wood relies on raw pace, and that sort of bowing is more suitable than swing-seam bowling in the dead tracks of India. James Anderson on the other hand got only one wicket in the 3rd test and conceded a total of 139 runs in both the innings. And the only wicket that he got was that of tail-ender Kuldeep Yadav. England kept India out for a full day, that didn't happen much in this series. Except for the 1st session, everything went England's way and Root saved the day for Poms, he was simply brilliant but for India's POV, tail wagging in the end was disturbing.

Umpiring was atrocious throughout the day and they even messed up plumb lbw, even 3rd umpire looked in a bit of a hurry but you can't blame on-field umpiring much if you burn all your reviews.

Ashwin is having a quiet series, which is painful to see and one of the reasons Indians will feel the heat in this match.

Thanks to Root England are back in the game, I won't be surprised if continues in the same way tomorrow. What I like the most is Ollie Robinson gave him the support that was lacking in the earlier series by the English bowlers. I saw for the first time Jaiswal bowling in an international game and he did quite well than the regular bowlers. DRS was gone because Sir Jadeja as usual forced Rohit to take the last one and it proved that it was unnecessary. Under pressure, Rohit is a bad captain as he always makes mistakes with fielding and choice of bowlers

Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024 due to his ankle injury. I came across a post on Reddit about it not sure if it is true.

Tbh Umpiring was shit as well, which at times kinda forced Rohit's hand but yeah Jaddu is an exciting customer when it comes to DRS, similar to Siraj.

The match might look in balance but the Indian team could go into depression if England managed to cross 350 or touch the 400 mark. Indian batters are in form and one could expect good response from them but we shouldn't forget it's a very inexperienced batting lineup.

Winning a test match with 400+ runs is good but I definitely like the last day dramatic wins and this test can surely be such one of them if both teams fight as hard as they can. Joe Root came in action and he has more avg in the pre bazball era and I think management gave freedom to play his natural game in this match which turned out to be a success.

Anything above 350 is decent score and we have to remember the fact India has to play the 4th innings.

England trailed early in the day yesterday but Joe Root scored a personal 106 to take his team to 300+ on day one. Root & Foakes added 113 runs in the sixth wicket partnership after 112 runs fell by 5 wickets. Tom Hartley couldn't last long with Root for the seventh wicket after Foakes was out for 47 off jadeja. Robinson was very good with Root in the end yesterday for the eighth wicket. India debutant Akash Deep picked up three wickets yesterday. If Joe Root & Ollie Robinson continuously build up their partnership today, the match could be tough for India. And soon the second day game will start, let's enjoy the second day game.

Yesterday we saw Joe Root and Ben Foakes' 113-run partnership leading England to a big collection. These two batsmen have performed very well. Even though Ben Foakes is dismissed for 47 runs, Root is still at the crease. He is batting responsibly.

The England team has already collected 75 runs from the Root-Robinson duo. England are batting very well at the start of the second day. The team scored 320 runs and lost 7 wickets. This is a good enough collection on this pitch. Indian batsmen will be under pressure if they can collect more than 400 in the first innings. Root and Robinson will need to play well if England want to collect big. If this pair breaks I think England's innings will come to a quick end.
