It's just a first day and Ireland playing his first inning in this test. We have second inning as well for England and Ireland, so the match is not going to finish today if Ireland reach the 85 runs target

Oh yeah, I forgot about second innings too. So after they get 85, they'll continue to play till they all get out. Then England bat to chase the runs (if any) and/or put runs on the board and Ireland again chase. Am I right? Last I saw a test match was in 2014 where England were playing with a score of 500+ against India I guess. :-P

Luck played a big factor for England when they won the world cup and that luck did not translate here in this test match against non test playing nation  
Since this is a test match Ireland has the opportunity to post a huge total in their first innings and then put pressure on the English batsmen and try to send them packing again and win the test match, it all depends upon how much runs Ireland can score in their first innings.

If it was even AFG, I would understand but not Ireland lol. This looks like their second ever test match after getting test status in 2017-18.

If Ireland could get to a score above 200, then they'll be in a realistic position to beat England. I have a feeling that the Brits took Ireland very lightly and used this test as an opportunity to give some of the younger players a test cap. In the end, it is turning out to be a humiliation. The world champions (debatable whether they really won the cup or not) have been bowled out for a two digit score.

I think Sri Lanka had to wait a decade or something to get the taste of a Test win.

Srilanka got test status at 1981 and played their 1st test in 1982 against England. After more than 3 years, they won their first test against India.

Bangladesh got the test status at 2000 and played their first test at 2000, but won the first test in 2005 against Zimbabwe, after 5 years.
I'm not sure which team took the maximum time to win a test.

1. Australia : Test Debut in 1877 , Won in first match.
2. England :  Test Debut 1877 , Won in same year on their 2nd match.
3. South Africa : Test Debut in 1889, First win came in 1906 after 11 test.
4. West Indies: Test Debut in 1928, First win in 1930 after 5th test Match
5. New Zealand: Test Debut in 1930, First Test win in 1956 after 44 match  They are Winners - 26 Years
6.India : Test Debut in 1932 , First Test win came in 1952 on their 25th match.
7. Sri Lanka: Test Debut in1982, First Win in 1985 after 13 test match.
8.Pakistan: Test debut in 1952, won in same year on their 2nd match.
9. Bangladesh : Test Debut in 2000, Won first game in 2005 after 34 match.

Andy Balbirnie has scored a half century against England at the Lord's. 50 from 56 balls, at a strike rate of 89.0.

Ireland now leading by 38 runs, with 8 wickets in hand. 43 overs remaining today and if they could get to a lead of 200-220, then we may be staring at a possibility of an innings defeat here. Paul Stirling is currently having a strike rate of 95, and these two batsmen are scoring runs at a brisk pace. 

The Irish batsmen are looking comfortable against the pacers (Broad/Woakes/Stone), as well as against the spinners (Stone/Ali). Curran was the only bowler who looked confident.

I can't believe what I am seeing today. Remember England are the World Cup winners and how come their team get all out against Ireland in less than 100 runs. This is just not imaginable. If Ireland manage to win this test match, It will be a big setback for the England team.

I don't think that the ECB really cares about this match. Since Ireland is their neighbor, they feel obliged to grant them one test every two or three years. The results probably doesn't matter, as the TV revenue is likely to be near zero. But still, an innings defeat can be very humiliating for them. Also, another thing to note here is that only four of those who played the world cup finals for England are participating in this match.

Update: One more wicket down, as Stirling is out. Ireland leading by 47, with 7 wickets in hand.

Stone's 7th over change all things for England and now we can say they are in commanding position because they can handle things in second inning Ireland 138 for 5 is not good enough for visitors as they need to do some more hard work if they want to win this match lets watch how they manage things from now.

I was saying that since Ireland is a neighboring country, England will agree to play against them once every two or three years. I was not saying that England would lose the match intentionally, to show their neighborly love (sic).

Ireland gets one test every one or two years. And it will be very cruel to say that England got all out for 85 not because of good bowling by the Irish pacers, but due to some match fixing.

What a performance by England today! Totally deference from the world cup. I think nobody can guess that the recently winner of the One-day world cup team will package in only 85 runs in a test match. Really it's a very shocking performance by England. But hope Ireland will not give a good lead for England. Because they already lost 8 wickets for 182 runs. Hope England will come back and will win the match. Thanks

Also i do agree that small teams should be given the opportunity to play against big teams but again it is ICC who is responsible to make such series possible.

200 up for Ireland. They are making a decent enough score here, and already they are having a lead of 122 runs with one wicket remaining. A win against England (and that too at the home of cricket) could give a massive boost for Ireland. They don't get these sort of opportunities very often, so they need to make the maximum gain out of this. The Irish needs to stay calm and score as many runs as possible. Even 5-6 runs can make a huge difference in the end.

Does that mean that you had any information about prior series and had valid proof of match fixing and you utilized those information to make good money gambling  .

If a countries cricket board wants to play a bilateral series against a country i do not think that ICC will block them from conducting a series but they have to fulfill a big schedule to play every test playing nations and the cricketing board has the authority to finalize those dates and timings.

Ireland is leading by 122 runs but Ireland lost all their wickets for 207 runs and things are getting interesting, how England will perform in the second innings, 20 wickets lost in the first day of a test match and with Ashes coming up things are not that great for England.

207 for 10 is a very low score as only 122 runs to chase and by now England must be already planning their strategy for tomorrow to save their dignity. All hopes again on Murtagh to get the wickets but I'm still impressed by Ireland to manage a tough fight against England in their own homeland. Looked just like an ODI today with 20 wickets falling and the first innings getting over so soon.

Test cricket is the best way to understand the strength of a team. Every team cannot play good tests, the value of test crickets can be known when enquired with the senior citizens of the country. Recently with the T20 cricket plan the younger generation has fallen for it as it is very little time consuming which is a big thing in the fast moving world.

That's really a big day with twenty wickets taken, every small team has been moving forward in every form of cricket. Looking at the play from Ireland it is a big performance. England will come back in the second innings, yet if there is some early fall of wickets surely England will play with pressure. Let's wait and watch what happens on second day.

How? You think Jason Roy debute can be considered as opportunity to young? I don't count it as weakness of England.
Only the Olly Stone is a total noob who is not a batsman even. Therefore, their batting is one of the best in the world.

3rd innings started in day 1? That's interesting. I really like test which get completed earlier. Ireland has good chance to win the match.
