It seems there’s no line movement on this game. Bookies are sticking firmly to giving Iraq that high handicap.
And yes, this is later at 4 PM, not too early anymore, so we can all watch it since it’s Saturday. Some of us don’t have work, or we can head out early if we don’t want to miss it. By the way, Iraq is at x10 on the moneyline, anyone thinking of taking that crazy bet? Considering Gilas has been struggling, they might lose again.

I missed the betting on this, If i just saw this earlier i will bet for the IRAQ, 19.5 is a good handicap as the Gilas is  really struggling with their chemistry,
But i saw  the game at half time already with 33 all in the game. Thankful that the Gilas Pinas went good on their 3RD Q and got 15 points lead to end the 3rd and complete the game with a W.
On to the next battle, and KEEP WINNING PINAS!!!

Gilas won, but only by 9 points, which means they didn’t cover the spread. we were also expecting a high-scoring game, but it turned out to be the opposite. The final score was 57-66, totaling only 123 points only, way lower than the pre-game total line of 169.5. If Gilas didn’t have a strong third quarter, they might have lost again. Thankfully, they sparked that run and pulled off the win.

Do you guys think the PBA is taking it personally? The PBA is imposing a 3yr ban on draftees who don’t sign and expiring players who join other leagues. For me, that’s a very bitter move, a baby boomer move. They can’t take it when players go abroad to play and don’t choose the PBA, so now they’re imposing a 3yr ban. For what? To make players think twice or stop them from going abroad? LOL. It’s like they don’t want others to seek better opportunities. No brainer, of course, these days, if there’s a better opportunity, you go and grab it.

A bitter move, and this move by them will just cause them more harm than good.

One year worth of salary on Japan B-league = 3 years on the PBA, or even more depending on how much the player is being paid. I don't think that this will benefit the league, and I don't think that this will decrease the number of players that will be playing outside the PBA. The fact that 3 potential all-star players left the league for B-league is a sign that there's a problem with the league currently. Even the ex-Commissioner Noli Eala said that this isn't the solution to the players opting to play on other leagues outside PH.

I don't know if there's a solution to what's happening with the league right now. Maybe if the current Commissioner steps down, then that might be the time where fans will try to love the league again and will try to watch in-person again. It's just sad that he ruined the league in the worst way possible.

Another thing is Coach Tim's old strategy.

Concern #1: 8-man rotation players

If we take a look back at those 2 games where Gilas lost, Coach Tim only used 8-man players with a good average playing time. The time he will use those backups, not even getting a chance to get on what we called here as "pampainit". After a few possessions only, expect substitutions back to starters. Reasonable if these backups are just bench warmers, but they're not.

Also happened earlier against Iraq, but the good thing Coach Tim changed the approach and turned into small ball, giving CJ and KQ a good minute. Thanks also for the effort on Dwight Ramos. Line-up spacing is really crucial in the international competition.

Pointing to Jamie Malonzo, he's the best bench warmer in those 3 games, averaging 20 claps, 20 laughs, 20 cheers. Coach Tim said, "his time will come," but at least he should also be given playing time. From those 12 players, he's the only one who hasn't given at least 1 second of playing time lol.

No doubt it's effective, that's why Coach Tim became popular and is being considered to be the head coach of Gilas. But in FIBA, it's not that we face the same teams every qualifying. Teams are also improving year by year.

Going back again at 2 lost games, Brownlee was always checked by 2 to 3 defenders. It happened again earlier against Iraq, where Brownlee, since known as the main scorer of Gilas, was always welcomed by 2 defenders. The triangle can't keep up with the defense by the opponent.

JuneMar Fajardo is the most dominant big man in the PBA as a local. But that dominance can't be seen effectively in the international competition for an obvious reason. If only PBA didn't limit the allowed height for the import, our big men, not just JMF, would be used on handling a much taller opponent, especially in the low post during offense.

Indeed, chemistry is very important if you only practice for less than a month there's always a tendency that a player will play his own playing style instead of playing with the system, unlike if you have deeper chemistries with other playmates, the kind of mindsets has been remove and the players already gained trust with one another.

We are and with how CTC still using that same patterns playing 8-man rotations and keep that same faces inside the court, those tapes already being closely monitors of our competing teams, they study  our system and they work with adjustments that they needed to beat us.

I completely agree, there should be no favoritism when it comes to player selection. To me, it's clear that Jamie Malonzo’s benching stems from his decision to leave his mother team, Ginebra, in the PBA to pursue a career in Japan. Coach Tim Cone seems to be taking it personally, and if this is about revenge, that’s not the kind of leadership we need. To Malonzo’s credit, he hasn’t spoken out publicly about the situation, which shows a level of professionalism and restraint.

Back to the game, Gilas will play tonight the home team Saudi Arabia which is a better version than that they beat a year ago. What are your thought's on this one.

Still related to PH basketball but in MPBL. Did you see the punch did by Sorela to Tibayan during the Mindoro - Gensan match? that was an intentional match and it was an attack, an assault. And after the incident he just walked away slowly back to the bench and to the locker. What a guy. If you haven't seen the video, just search it on Facebook and it will appear on how that game went and that punch was a tirade to the back of Tibayan while he wasn't aware of.

Not really into MPBL, but from time to time i watch some highlights… this one though, i hope that guy gets some serious discipline because punching someone who’s not even aware is not just dirty, it’s a crime. That kind of hit can cause serious damage as the brain isn’t ready for sudden impact like that, it could even lead to trauma. Since MPBL is already a pro league, i think someone here should make a thread so we can follow the games and keep up with all the updates for this league.

Yeah, it seems a homicide to some if they're going to take a look at that clip. Very intentional, ill-intended. I hope that there is no hemorrhage on the brain or if it's on his pipe, it will clog him resulting to having hard time in breathing.

I seldom saw a bookies covering MPBL games maybe because MPBL has a bad reputation. If my memory serves me right, the league was being investigated for game fixing. I don't know what's the result of the investigation  but that scenario alone is a red flag at least for me to bet on their games.

Manny Pacquiao pours billions of money on this league just to sustain the potential young bloods or old professionals that still has passion for playing basketball but lacks of opportunity. There are more watchers in the MPBL than the PBA if it's just a regular weekday game. But still, PBA has a lot of viewers every weekend. I have also heard about that match fixing issue but nothing has proven yet IMO.

It could also end the career of Tibayan! Temper should be control and if you will go beyond that you should never punch anyone.

Stuff like this can happen, especially in a very physical game. That’s why the lifetime ban is fair.. if you start a fight and injure a player so badly they can’t even defend themselves, you shouldn’t be allowed back on the court. Hopefully, there’s also a hefty cash penalty and maybe even jail time, so he learns the lesson that controlling emotions is part of being an athlete. Sportsmanship should always come first.

There was a similar incident in the PBA years ago (not exactly like this) involving John Amores, who fired shots after losing in a basketball game. Good thing no one got hit. He’s not in the PBA now, as far as I know, but I don’t think he was banned for life.

Judging with the video that circulating around social medias, I guess the sanction is well deserved, I don't know the person as I don't watch MBPL that much but that assault shows the intention, lifetime banning will give a warning to those active players and those aspirants not to dwell with the same situation, aside from that lifetime ban not sure if there's also a possibility that the player involved can file a legal case seeking for further assistance.

Tibayan puke with blood and I've seen the video. While there is another angle that's close to the two before the punching incident happens, it was Tibayan that did some right force using his right hand near to Sorela's weenie. I'm not sure if he's the first one to start with. But the counter action that Sorela did is never been right. Doing an all force, he can play physically but he shouldn't play dirty doing that attack.

IMO, the Boomers will win tonight in a convincing manner. Since they joined this FIBA Asia Cup tourney, they are unbeaten so i think they will continue to do so and become champion on this year's tournament. On the other hand, the Gilas team should not be embarrass of this defeat all they need to do is play and make the game as close as possible.

very challenging match for Gilas, Australia have the advantage in experience, height, and also speed, more firepower, if Gilas want to win, they have to be lights out, from the field, australia on the other hand have lots of option, if they missed there is a rebounder while on Gilas its only junmar, if he can't position properly under the basket it will be the biggest headache for Gilas, everyone should click or else Australia will be walking in the park.

Time now for CTC to bring his young stars and allow them to compete against the much taller Aussie, I mean Tamayo, KQ, Edu and Ramos together with JBL, they have the height and speed just need to click much earlier, scottie and Newsome are good but with how CTC rotates his players, he need something to surprise their opponents so bringing those young stars might click, though it's just my personal I know CTC and the rest of the coaching staff got their plan and a playing system to try beating the top and more experienced AUssie, let's see if how they'll going to take this game, win or go home for the National.

Do you still remember what the handicap was for the Philippines in this game? I missed it and only got to watch the highlights. Totally forgot there was a game since I’ve gotten used to them playing either at midnight or early dawn in our time. That was a blowout, but I’m just curious if Gilas was at +15, +20, or even more.
