Gilas vs Australia 7:00 pm today Philippine time, what do you think of this game tonight.

IMO, the Boomers will win tonight in a convincing manner. Since they joined this FIBA Asia Cup tourney, they are unbeaten so i think they will continue to do so and become champion on this year's tournament. On the other hand, the Gilas team should not be embarrass of this defeat all they need to do is play and make the game as close as possible.

Do you still remember what the handicap was for the Philippines in this game? I missed it and only got to watch the highlights. Totally forgot there was a game since I’ve gotten used to them playing either at midnight or early dawn in our time. That was a blowout, but I’m just curious if Gilas was at +15, +20, or even more.

I think I saw it inside stake the handicapped is +23 @1.71 not quite sure for the odds though like you said it's a blowout game for the Aussie they are doing well both Inside and outside that's why gilas really got a hard time playing their defense, but still a good game for the team as they really show everything that they can just not enough to beat the Australian squad.

edit: Michole Solera is done playing basketball in the MPBL.

https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/08/12/US3JTN.jpeg

If you're a local basketball fan, this will surely show on your Facebook feed. It’s all over the social media sport news channel right now.
What Michole Solera did was outrageous. Fine and lifetime ban aren't enough imo he should be charged and jailed so he can learn his lesson. He clearly hasn't matured at all. He almost killed someone, yet the punishment is only 200,000PHP fine and a lifetime ban from the MPBL. That ban should apply to all games, even small barangay leagues so no one will dare to follow his example.

I've seen this video, clearly that man has attitude issue, its basketball you might get hurt but its sports and you have to let you're head cool down, and he never been hit during the play, that guy is unstable, clearly banning him is the right decision, if not remove he will damage MPL reputation since the league becoming more popular than the PBA, its for the family and the player to file a complaint if its possible since the outcome is not a simple sports foul but could end a career of a player, hopefully he will get the justice he deserve.

I think it was also made worse as Manny Pacquiao was watching live in the venue when this match happened (as I read somewhere).
A lifetime ban is already a huge consequence, plus this bonus PHP 200,000 fine became worse.

While Gilas struggled to keep pace, a bright spot emerged in Kevin Quiambao, who played impressive basketball. His performance not only stood out but also provided valuable experience he can carry forward in his journey with the national team.

Quiambao, Edu, Ramos, Tamayo and Kai Sotto will be a good team if all of these players are healthy in the next window.

KQ Quiambao is one of the face and future of Gilas, that was claimed by Coach Tim! He believe that the young guy is very talented.
Edu and Sotto, 2 big guys that we wish to be healthy for the National team. They are young and fast! we need them!
Ramos, Tamayo and lets add CJ, those are the pointer of the team. I hope they can train together for a long time and have the chemistry they need to win.

We know that we can't win with BIG TEAMS, but we can fight head to head with them. And to those   team below, we can win every match.

Yes indeed, just needed to developed more chemistries within those young stars, they've got the height the skills and talent that future gilas needed to continue pursuing for the title, we are still in that competitive nature as we have the heart of never say die, though system and the height advantages that's something that CTC needs to work on, find another big man to play alongside with Edu and Kai, Japet and JMF is not getting any younger much better to develop a younger player to help building the future gilas squad.

This is just my personal opinion. Have you guys noticed that those players who played abroad are the biggest contributors compared to the dominant local players in international competition? Maybe, one reason is they have more experience playing against better and taller players abroad. If only the PBA were more open, just like the neighboring Asian countries. Don't get me wrong, of course, I'm also a Gilas supporter, but I think our future in basketball is still far from our expectations.

I agree with your thoughts, kabayan. Players like Ramos, Edu, Tamayo, Quiambao, and Sotto represent the future of Gilas. The common denominator is that they’re all playing overseas, regularly competing against taller and quicker opponents, which gives them an edge over those who play exclusively in the PBA. As for Junemar Fajardo, he's noticeably slowing down as he ages.

I hope the commissioner realizes this and invites more teams, without imposing height restrictions on imports, so that PBA players can get used to playing with them. That way, they won’t be caught off guard when competing in FIBA or other international tournaments.

I agree!!! 100%!!!
Those young guns of Gilas and other brilliant players who plays outside of our country is really looking for better future, they want more experience.
they want bigger stage to learn, We can tell that our basketball here in PH is not on the top notch, Coach Yeng is one of the finaest coach we have and said  that  PH system is way far from what we have international now.
You can still see most of the time the penetration, the isolation play and a 1 man team. Internationally not good as we can see to those opponents we have that they hold the ball in very short time.
The ball rotates so fast which always see an open player to take the shot. Shooting percentage for 3s, we have shooters! but they also have, their centers or some of hteir centers are shooter than our guards.
We really need to open the mind of the PBA! If they continue this, i can say! MPBL will lead the basketball in our country.

Yes, of course, they face tougher competition and have to stay relevant to the team to keep their contracts. They’re seen as important players, which means they’re expected to contribute well. So if they keep getting renewed, that means they’re doing their job right.

As for these young players, yes, they can really compete, but what we need more right now is a solid center, and Kai Sotto could fill that role. From what I’ve seen, he’s still young and can still grow his body to become more dominant inside. Hopefully, that happens in the near future.

Yeah we provably seen their performance on more tougher competition. Even though they have been badly dominated by Australia we could see that these guys are doing good. Maybe on their last contest the situation is different if Kai Sotto is there. But the young man still recovering so hopefully we could see him on next FIBA tournament.

Junemar Fajardo age and it shows that he's declining now. I think he's not a good fit on Gilas anymore since he became liability instead of he supposed to be bring good help on their team while Sotto is out on their team. I think last year kabayan PBA already take out the height restriction of their  imports https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/pba-scraps-import-height-limit-for-commissioner-s-cup-a795-20240605 that decision would provably help local players to improve on much tougher competition.

Junmar really don't played better during fiba tournament, maybe he is not use to being undersize since he always the one to dominate, and the age also matters, PBA should stop banning players who go abroad, what kind of rules is that an ego hurt rules, also they have to stop the, giving trade advantages to big teams, this destroy the competition, that is why even a star player is culture shocked in the world stage, imagine when a player get use to losing, that will mark on them, international players always think of winning, since the level of competition on their league is so high, they always to do better everyday, unlike in the pba, the top team in regular season seems to cant make a basket from a favorite team, the import unable to shoot and dominate in the semis which is so unsual, even the star player can't even make a shot, seems fishy.

Breaking news:

Good news for Gilas Pilipinas: Quentin Millora-Brown has been cleared by FIBA to play in sanctioned games as a local, not as a naturalized player, following the approval of his eligibility request.

He will add ceiling for the Philippine national team and might replace Japeth Aguilar as a power forward position for Gilas.

Sotto, Edu, Tamayo, Ramos, QMB and KQ, these guys bring bright future for Gilas Pilipinas.

Nice, now we need to have a better coach, the one that knows international games better, CTC is great but we need coach that will trust all his players, and play them, not bench them, PBA style of play will not work in the Fiba now, they are miles away when it comes to preparation and conditioning, KQ, Ramos and Brownlee seems to match the other countries pressure, if we really want to compete then that's the way for us to go, stop banning players.

I’m not too familiar with Quentin Millora-Brown, but I see he has the height and he’s still young, so it’s a good addition to Gilas since he can take a local spot. This is actually great news for us as we can go bigger and develop these players to compete for the country.

I did a quick search and saw that he went undrafted in 2024, but that’s fine.
At least we have him now, because if he got drafted, he probably wouldn’t be able to play for our team.

Not that much but his height and his outside shooting capability if being mentored that well, for sure he'll bring something for the team, we got enough time to blend him inside the team, and if ever Kai will be back that's a huge height that we've got, together with Edu, Quentin will be a good help they all still young and hopefully CTC if he still going to handle the gilas squad, bringing out the talent of Tamayo the same way they gave KQ that time to play, he's also someone who can deliver if he'll be able to have that exposures.

Since Gilas is already eliminated, I guess they’ll have time to practice for the next international games, though I have no idea when that will be. Still, this is a great development as seen by the basketball community. We’ve been needing more height, and now we have this young guy who played in the NCAA. Even if he went undrafted in the NBA, I’m sure he’s going to be molded well, especially with Tim Cone handling the team.

Hopefully after this exit they'll start conducting practices, we've seen the big difference competing internationally, we need more time for practice and establishing chemistries, we've seen KQ standing up with his game we need more young talents to push their limits, with how they've suffered that last game against the Aussie there's a big adjustments that the needs to work on, early practices and more game plays to develop among players.

Hopefully after this exit they'll start conducting practices,###

This is really a problem with our team because most of the players are on different teams outside of Gilas, some even playing internationally. That makes it hard to keep them together for long practice sessions since they also have responsibilities with their respective teams. If all of them were coming from the PBA, it would be much easier because the league is based in the Philippines. The SBP could coordinate directly with the PBA bosses and teams to manage the schedule.
