I don't see any possibility that Messi will play in Barcelona. First of all, Messi is older now, he can't perform very well like the past seasons with the Barcelona squad now. You are right, it doesn't seem that Messi fits in Barcelona's starting eleven right now. It would require a deep reorganisation of the team, and it wouldn't be cheap neither. Although I would personally like to see him wearing blue and red again, I don't think this is the best strategy for the team right now.

Andreas Christensen he a man in a defend position is also the best option for Barcelona at the moment, I think Xavi will play him for sure when another defender gets injured. Regarding Pique although he has problems, but I am sure he will play professionally, he is aware that Barcelona fought really hard when Xavi was in lead.

In my opinion, Messi is the player that can play with any team, his style of play is so special that he can provide killer passes and position himself to get a pass and shoot without forgetting how good he still is at shooting, he also plays good in midfield so it can never be bad to have Messi on your side, he always was a team player and still is.
