I don't think that Girona can become the runner up of la Liga this season because they have lost that winning zeal they started the season with and if Barcelona wins El classico that means the La Liga title will still be at stake reason being that the gap between Real Madrid and Barcelona will drop to just 5 points and they still have about 8 matches left before the end of the season so a drama can still be expected at the die minutes.

Barcelona have started to improve their results in the La Liga recently so I'm also not feeling like Girona would finish as the runner-up. But the gap is only two points between so it can be a really competitive challenge. 

However especially if Girona lose against Atletico Madrid next week the gap is quite likely to get quite bigger than this. Girona beat Atletico Madrid before maybe but it was a home game. Atletico Madrid are very strong in home games this season. They are the second best team about that.    They lost only once and won 13 out of 15 home games.
