Atletico Madrid have finally broken a leg and finished their streak of not being able to see more than the group stage in the Champions League. They are returning to the La Liga with an improved morale. But their job is still going to be really challenging against Barcelona in their next fixture. However Simeone looks promising this season that's for sure.

By the way I didn't know Atletico Madrid signed a contract extension with Diego Simeone. They have extended his contract to 2027. As the team have been going on really impressively I understand this. But I wasn't expecting the extension to be that long honestly.

I mean considering how amazing he has managed the team, I would say it is definitely understandable why they did that. When this season is over it will be 2024, so that means we are talking about 3 more seasons after this, a total of 3.5 more seasons he will be there. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing, it is good because we are talking about more stability in the team and having the same manager means it gives them the right amount of time to keep it going.

However, at the same time we are talking about a situation that could be a little bit different, like how they could totally end up with a situation that could be fully "I have the contract anyway so I do not have to care anymore" and could be an issue.

Both sides had chances of scoring, Girona also created chances deadly enough to lead to goal, the defenders of Atletico Bilbao was just intact and in place to shade all of them goals away. They don't look so good but they looked good when you eventually play them. I can have flashbacks of the game against Celta Vigo, they fought hard to the end. Girona failure to win now level them up with Real Madrid who are still currently taking the lead.
