Someone put a thread about this fight: Tyson Fury’s working out from trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder. Anyway, here is my take on it:

It's really hard to say, maybe the postponement has put a lot of stress on Wilder and as much as he wanted to focus, there could be other things in his mind that he can't do because everything is on the line. They are pose to make a lot of money in this trilogy, but if there are not final date and everything is still up in the air, then better cancel it and let this pandemic settles down a bit. Cancelling it might do better for Wilder, in my opinion.

The trilogy though should happen eventually, 1-0 for Fury and Wilder needs to comeback and make it even and settle to score, nothing is better than boxing than a revenge win and prove yourself.

The irony would be that Wilder takes on the fight, wins it and levels the score. Than a 4th match will be setup to prove once and for all, who the best fighter of the 2 is.
In my eyes even this 3h fight is unncessary, but it is al about the money   Smiley.

Hahaha, that would be ironic indeed, if Wilder specially wins in the most unexpected outcome, knocking out the Gypsy King. Then a 4th one is setup, another huge money in the table.

@AakZaki - yes it's not mandatory, but they have rematch clause if I'm not mistaken, so they really have to face and try to settle their score. But then again the pandemic enter the picture, ruin the plans, specially fans who wanted to see this fight live.

Wilder's apparently taken a vow of silence. He has not been heard of in a long time. Fury and his promoters say they no longer have any obligation to have the trilogy fight and are now looking for a new opponent to prepare for him for facing Anthony Joshua next year. I don't think Wilder's team will put up a legal fight to try and force the rematch to happen next. Wilder is still a top 3 heavyweight so his chance will come up again.

I think the cancellation of the third fight would be on Wilder's advantage because he need to but some time to bring back the confidence in him as he was battered on their last fight. AFAIK, the rematch clause has expiration so i don't think the camp of Wilder will take a legal action here.

Definitely it will be a big advantage for Wilder so that finally he can reset his mind first and have some confidence before facing Fury again in this trilogy. Yes there is a stipulation that a rematch clause could end, but the thing is that when they outline it prior, there's no pandemic or something, so again, maybe the next time that those boxing lawyers or promoted a rematch clause, maybe they have to think about this kind of scenario.

That information was only coming from Fury's side, we would like to hear the side of Wilder's here as he was the one demanding for a rematch after he lose and I think he would not allow that to happen as he want's avenge his loses and get that belt.

Of course, they have the right to take legal action and the legendary Shelly Finkel kick against the action and he claims to have been in talks with Wilder about the fight as i read. Besides, he also claimed Wilder is ready to fight Fury any time and any place. Maybe Wilder has a reason for being silent.

Wilder might be silent because there's no sense of talking when the contract was already sign, I mean the rematch clause was with the previous contract and therefore any fighter is obliged to fight if one of them wants a rematch, there's nothing to speculate more, Wilder is just trying to be professional here and might have probably focus more now on his training to be back in shape and to have a chance of beating Fury.

Fury looking for another fighter to fight when their trilogy wasn't over yet, I think that's a big disrespect to the old champion.

I hope this will create spark so both will be on fire when in the ring for the "TRILOGY FIGHT".

Its not a way of disrespecting but rather a necessary move to be made if you do saw that the other party isn't really interested for trilogy. Then what can you do?

Of course to move on and find for another opponent. It cant really just stop there if the said opponent doesn't want on what you like for it to happen.

Lots do prefer on that trilogy but still the management or the organization will always have the final verdict when it comes to decision making
on who would be the one you'll fight next.

I think they need to talk with Wilder's camp first before they will try to find another fight to sign with, that might create some problem as anytime the cam of Wilder can sue them for doing that, when there's a big money involved, it's better to be safe in all legal matters.

Contract is legal, it should be carefully valued.

Management are coming from both parties, I believe this fight is promoted by the popular Bob Arum but he still need the consent of both parties not to make this fight happen anymore or probably postponed the trilogy.

So there's really no rematch clause on the 2nd fight?

This article is telling that.
https://www.boxingnews24.com/2020/10/arum-doubts-wilders-manager-shelly-finkel-read-contract-for-fury-trilogy/

Quote
By Kenneth Friedman: Bob Arum is convinced that Deontay Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel never read the contract for the third match against Tyson Fury. Arum says Finkel is wrong if he believes that former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) still has options for a third fight against Fury.

Arum has had his lawyer read the contract, and he says that Fury’s lawyer Robert Davis has read it as well. Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) will be moving on, and he won’t be fighting Wilder next.

The original idea was for Fury and Wilder to fight in December, but affording to Fury, he wanted to push the fight to 2021. That’s something that Fury wasn’t willing to do.

I don't know if that article is reliable, but if that is true, and Fury will be moving on, so we will not see a trilogy here?

Boxingnews usually provide reliable information about the scoop in the boxing scheme. I read that Wilder postponed the second date fixed for the trilogy fight was the reason why Furym team decided not to go on with the fight but what I don't understand is the content of the contract if it truly allows Fury and Arum to make the decision.

No, it was a disrespecting move and if not Shelly Finkel won't have stepped in and warned Fury and camp of making the decision that will lead to legal action.
If the other parties is not interested in the trilogy fight, why signed the contract then?

Absolutely, I think this is the part Fury and his camp don't understand before they make the statement of canceling the trilogy fight. However, what I think about Wilder being silent is that he somehow learns from the previous fight and decides to skip the talking while letting his pouches do the talking when they meet in the ring.

I think they need to talk with Wilder's camp first before they will try to find another fight to sign with, that might create some problem as anytime the cam of Wilder can sue them for doing that, when there's a big money involved, it's better to be safe in all legal matters.

Contract is legal, it should be carefully valued.
That's what it is but they choose to make the announcement online.

If there's really no rematch clause in the contract then any party can find their opponent, I'm pretty sure Arum did read the contract as he is the promoter of this fight, so he maybe won't lie about what he read and he has already stated it, so there will be no trilogy here.  Embarrassed

Fury may not willing to give Wilder the trilogy fight now due to the contract conditions but due to the rivalry between the two, they will still have the trilogy fight which happens after Fury faces Anthony or before that due to the level of Finkel experience in boxing.

Ok the way I understand it, they have a rematch clause and then it was cancelled due to the pandemic and then rescheduled, but the second date is going to be postponed again because Wilder doesn't or are not comfortable fighting Fury for some reasons. And now they are asking for a third date next year negotiate the rematch clause which Bob Arum and team are not willing to give Wilder in the future. So this pandemic has f**k up again one of the most anticipated rematch in heavy weight.

Based on what was shared above, there is no rematch clause in the 2nd fight they both signed, so Fury are free to move and find another fighter without legal obligations, the same thing with Wilder, maybe they didn't say it before because they want to hype the fight, and now that it didn't happen due to the pandemic, Bob Arum just can's sit and wait as he know himself that the pandemic are not going away anytime soon, so he seek for a new opponent for Fury so his cash inflows will continue.

Just common sense though, if both parties agreed that they won't do a trilogy because of this pandemic as they will reduce the money generated for their fighters then they can move and find a new opponent so that it won't held them back as well.

The problem is that they started to point finger at each other as to who is the real reason behind the postponement and the confusion. Let Fury fight his mandatory or wait for Joshua vs Pulev outcome and hope that AJ will win and then they can set up a all British fight next year.

Fury had every right to cancel the fight because Wilder and his team were making negotiations difficult and trying to play mind games. Fury should try for a fight with Joshua instead and leave Wilder where he belongs as a previous champion that has been beaten and bruised and will never recover.

That's a better idea, Wilder acting like he was the champ in this fight, he should know his place as the was the one asking for a rematch, and people are already convince that Fury would still dominate Wilder if a trilogy would happen but they'll love to see a Fury vs Joshua fight which is expected to be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

I agree, too many negotiations will lead to prolonging the match or much likely would never happen cause both parties had their own plan. they wanted to get as much money they could with this trilogy. sadly it won't happen if they don't fight for glory since more likely Fury has the advantage to win. If they really wanted it to happen, in the first place they could accept whatever Fury's side wish.

They should, Fury has to dictate here, not the opposite team as he is the current champion, Fury knows he can beat Wilder even if they fight more, but Wilder on the other hand already feel the power of Fury, the first game was a draw but that expose Wilder and Fury was confident he can take the power of Wilder so he was aggressive on the 2nd fight.

Maybe the best decision for Fury is to stop negotiating on Wilder as it seems like he was not anymore interested.

Fury will prepare for a big fight as Joshua would certainly beat the ass of Pulev in their fight.

Money matters, although I have suspected that Wilder is not ready mentality to face Fury in a trilogy.

The problem is that they started to point finger at each other as to who is the real reason behind the postponement and the confusion. Let Fury fight his mandatory or wait for Joshua vs Pulev outcome and hope that AJ will win and then they can set up a all British fight next year.
That's how it is, specially with boxing promoters like Bob Arum and Finkel involved, specially Arum, he can twist some words to look like the other camp is the problem. Arum is a lawyer, that's why it's really hard to get out of contracts from him. And if you get out, you will have to pay a huge amount and you will be sideline, ruining your career. But Fury-Joshua will be the next best fight in 2021.
