Damn near the halfway point of 100 members expressing their pledge:

43. tetra4c (1 ~ By Proxy via Me, Bruno) PENDING!
44.

100. the joint (1 ~ but only if he were the 100th pledger)

I love this idea, although i have almost no BTCs, and less to spare, maybe in the future i'll pledge but not today.

Great plan though, keep up the work everyone!  Grin

I took the liberty, MrGaSp, to include you on the list and pledging 1 BTC of which I will provide.

I'm hoping tetra4c allows me to do the same thing for him. Waiting for a reply.

Remember, folks. that this is just the pledging stage. There's no commitment until the donation stage kicks in and you're ready and willing to participate. That said, to get on the list, simply state "I'm in" and you'll be added with the understanding that you're pledging at lease 1 BTC sometime in the future. You'll not be called out if you don't following through because, quite frankly, nobody will know. Ain't Bitcoin beautiful?

Thank you kindly for your pledge, Cory. The OP has been updated to reflect your generosity.

See how easy that was, folks. Totally painless! Cory probably won't even miss enjoying that Happy Meal due his pledge.

I want to clarify my earlier pledge. It's 1 BTC per organization, up to 100 BTC. And possibly more than 1 BTC for certain organizations that I'm especially interested in.

Denarium closing sale discounts now up to 43%! Check out our products from here!

I might just be in possession of a couple of unspent bitcoins rattling around in my wallet willing to do some good.
Count me in.

Don't expect me to be monitoring this thread constantly though; a PM reminder might be in order when need arises.

I pledge 1 BTC under 2 conditions.

1)  Half-jokingly, I would like a pm to remind me to donate my 1 BTC.  By the time any of this comes to fruition, I will have likely forgotten this thread.

2)  I get to be #100   Grin

No half-joking at all in this post. #1 is a given. Still working out the minor detail of the notification process, whether it'll be PM, text, email, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc., or a combination of all.

As far as #2, why not? Done!

Excellent!  Thanks!

In re, your second sentence. I didn't know there were libertarians on this board. May have to rethink my Bitcoin position now that this relative information has come to light. Seriously, I lean Conservative, but hold many values and political views offered up by the other parties. I even lean towards atheism which would shock my Jehovah Witness friend (if he knew) who stopped by yesterday to witness to me. Afterwards, I'm pretty sure he was somewhat shocked when I ask him to lead us (him and I) in prayer. I say that because I'm also sure he hadn't gotten that request very often by others he's witnessed to.

Really?  I would expect most members of the Bitcoin community to be libertarians.  I myself am a libertarian (maybe 85%) and an atheist (100%).

Oh, and you can change my entry to include non-charitable organisations too.

I'm shocked! Simply shocked after reading that there's more than one libertarian on this board. BTW, teukon, I already knew the political stance of most members here.

I've updated the list, reflecting your current request. I'm sure the Pattaya YMCA will appreciate your donation.

Pledging 2 now is more than enough, Jake. When the time approaches, a PM will be sent to you.

Thank you kindly, Jim, for your contribution.

This is great. The pledgers are now learning to write their own script.

Only 3 more pledges needed to round out the first 50.

If this were NPR, I would be offering a Bitcoin cup as a premium. Since it's not, the best I can do is show you a picture of one.

I've just noticed I appear twice on your list at 17 and 40 (1740 by a bizarre coincidence was the year the Marquis de Sade was born - I'd like to contribute twice but charity and Sadism are a bad mix)

Ain't that special! Now I have to go back, starting with #18 and change all the numbers. Then I have to reread this thread to see how it happened so that it never happens again. This is so embarrassing!

Also, in 1740, George Whitefield founded the Bethesda Orphanage. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider your position before I make the time-constraint adjustments?

The next post will consist of thanking the most recent pledgers and addressing posts.

In case you are eager to donate, you can already send bitcoins to several charity institutions through http://www.bitcoin-charity.com. I have donated to a few of them. Here is a list of the institutions they support:

Doctors without Borders
Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Electronic Frontier Foundation
The Humane Society of the United States

http://www.bitcoin-charity.com/ is very good at what they do and how they do it. Everyone reading this should take a quick look, or re-look if the case may be, and consider giving a tad. I just donated 1.0025 (odd amount because I wanted to have my wallet even) to Doctors Without Borders. nmat, or whoever is monitoring this, will be able to verify that I did such.

I'm aware that there may be other charity-type sites up and running, but remember that Bitcoin100 is designed to be more than just another charitable enterprise. Its main goal is to aid in the awareness of Bitcoin via having charitable organizations implementing a Bitcoin donation option on their respective websites. The hope is that by offering a bone (a minimum of 100 BTC), they'll be more inclined to consider the option. Although simple in mind and on paper, the task in hand to get this fully operational requires work. Work that I'm proud to be a part of.

Bruno

PS: Thank you, nmat, for re-bringing that link to my attention.

I don't monitor it. I was just reminding people that it exists, in case someone wants to donate right away to some of the institutions Wink
