I've sent my btc (one of the ones I bought at $3.00 not one of my cheap $2.35 ones)

What? Are you saying that Bitcoin can be pegged to the dollar?

The honoring of your pledge has been noted, dancupid. The same is true for Technomage and Isosceles, below.

I've also sent 1 BTC.

I've sent my 1 BTC

Thank you, dancupid & Techomage & Isosceles, for honoring your pledges. The pledge list in the OP has been updated reflecting these kind donations.

SealsWithClubs poker room has  over 400 players online. Buy in from .01 to 60btc.      BTCSportsMatch lets you bet sports with vig free lines!  Best kept secret in bitcoin....          LocalBitcoins.com is very user-friendly now for bank transfers.  You don't have to live close to trade when in the same currency area.
Electrum client is awesome. Try it. And please stop sending bitcoins to sites run by security newbies, or don't complain when you lose everything.

In knew in my heart of heart that Bitocin100 would take flight once the pouring in of BTC materialized. My only regret is that I don't have control of the wallet. I can't even imagine how much old musty smelling barn wood I could purchase if I had my slimy hands on the donations.

I sent my 1 BTC in! Smiley
I believe I send in another one for the next charity?

That's exactly how I've envisioned it working. 1 BTC max per pool unless one feels inclined to donate more or is honoring a pledge of a greater amount toward each charitable organization. Since we're not sure exactly where this pool will go (as I've stated), it's best to save the other half of your pledge for a charity closer to your heart. With that, thank you, Coinabul, for honoring your pledge to date, of which it's now reflected in the OP.

in for one, why not

Now we're receiving donations into the pool by those who have not previously pledged. Thank you so very kindly for your donation, sethsethseth.

Great idea.  I'll support this.  Sent 1 BTC.

Yet, another donator who had not pledged prior. I'm beginning to believe my jest prophecy of SA members donating is beginning to come to fruition.

Thank you kindly, also, gnar1ta$, for your contribution.

The OP has been updated anew reflecting all these latest donations. Thank you again, Coinabul & Seth & gnar1ta$.

For those of us that pledged, should we send 1 btc to that address? Send everything we pledged? Or do nothing right now?

For those of us that pledged, should we send 1 btc to that address? Send everything we pledged? Or do nothing right now?

To be honest, all those options are correct, but allow me to address each one, separately.

Quote
Or do nothing right now?

One can easily choose this option for the sole reason that at this time this particular pool (wallet address) is currently not allocated towards any single charitable organization. All those who contribute to it are doing such having that full disclosure in mind. Future pools will have a more defined directions, but currently not this one.

Quote
Send everything we pledged?

I've felt from the get-go that small pledges (1 BTC) from several pledgers is better than having a smaller amount of pledgers pledging various amounts of Bitcoin. Although it's always welcoming to having a big chunk donated into a single pool by one pledger, I believe it would better serve the pledger, as well as future charitable organizations, by having the larger pledges spread out 1 BTC at a time, unless one has pledged differently. I hate to discourage it, but I'm discouraging it.

Quote
should we send 1 btc to that address?

Only if you want. You don't have to. But if you do, you're doing so, once again, with the full understanding that this particular pool is not currently attached to any one charitable organization. We'll all working on faith that this pool eventually goes to a proper cause, one most pledgers would normally donate to, given they had disposable fiat currency--if Bitcoin did not exist.

I hope that this post addresses your questions and concerns, to date. Feel free to inquire some more for, as I've previously stated on this thread, I'm making up the answers I go along.

Thank you, Roger, for honoring your pledge with this handsome donation even though, as you well know, this pool currently is not allocated towards any particular charitable organization, but you're allowing faith to prevail that it does end up going to a just cause.

When those times approach, you'll be recontacted, or read on this thread, to consider ponying up towards those respective pools.

I'm still not clear on how this is going to work exactly.  Although I would want the chance to veto the donation to a charity I had a problem with I would happily accept a 3-day timeout with a default action of donating.  I've just sent 1 BTC to the Bitcoin100 address (waiting on the blockchain to update before it goes through) and I assume this is to prepare for the first charity.

Could I send funds sufficient for a small number of charities at a time?  I like the idea of the Bitcoin100 but can't afford to be very hands on and would be happier helping by just supplying some funds.  How will you keep track of who has pledged what?

I think there is a misunderstanding of the term pledge.  Though everyone is encouraged to put their money in the address now, I am personally waiting for the first charity to be chosen, and that is okay for everyone to do that.   I wish I put a "adjustable to current market rates" cap on my pledge donations, but it's okay, good causes, karma and all that.

That first post does look messy for some reason, yet it has a lot of information, someone needs to do a quick page or something so there can just be a link with a big 'go here' flashing gif lol

I am working on a rewrite of the first page and even have backed up the original OP in anticipation of doing such. As it stands now, it currently reads as if a 51 year man, who reclaims old musty smelling barn wood, wrote it during the smelling of his own brainfart.

Quote
EDIT: I brought the Bitocin100 list that was originally at the bottom of this post to top. All other edits (except spelling and grammar) will also be duly noted when warranted. A backup of this OP can be viewed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52543.msg639141#msg639141[/i] preserve for posterity, due to the fact that this OP may be modified for clarity purposes. Remember, it was first written during the brainstorming stage, but since its inception, Bitcoin100 has evolved into a formidable (OK, maybe fledgling, or fledged) capacity building program.

Quote
I wish I put a "adjustable to current market rates" cap on my pledge donations,

And you still can. In fact, considered it done. (see the OP)

Quote
99. FreddyFender (Gretzky, but I somehow doubt it) (1 ~ Per Charitable Organization--adjustable to current market rates)

As you probably read, FF did it, albeit he mentioned it at the time of his pledge. In fact, anybody can change their pledge or add a caveat at any time.

Quote

I'll assume your penning of the term pledge misunderstanding is directed towards the current funding of the first pool. I admit that some misunderstanding is warranted due to the cart being placed in front of the horse. Although I fully intended in waiting to start funding the first pool until we had at least 100 pledgers, the fact of the matter is that after Rassah kindly hashed the vanity Bitcoin100 vanity address, a member(s) starting getting their panties wet, wanting to start honoring their pledges. I saw no harm in this provided I fully disclose what's transpiring, of which I have stated on more than one occasion in this thread--and will continue to do so. I feel it's a minor issue, one we can easily circumnavigate around.

Quote
Though everyone is encouraged to put their money in the address now, I am personally waiting for the first charity to be chosen, and that is okay for everyone to do that.

That is quite all right with you doing such. You could easily exercise your prerogative any time, even when an allocated pool is directed towards a named charitable organization. But be forewarned: The next time you turn up missing I, for one, won't be so concerned.  Wink BTW, did you see that I matched your pledge and have even honored one, to date?

I'm still not clear on how this is going to work exactly.  Although I would want the chance to veto the donation to a charity I had a problem with I would happily accept a 3-day timeout with a default action of donating.  I've just sent 1 BTC to the Bitcoin100 address (waiting on the blockchain to update before it goes through) and I assume this is to prepare for the first charity.

Hell, add me to the list as to not being clear on how this is going to work--exactly! But, I do have an idea of how it will work in theory. In fact, I'm so sure it'll work, I've created a specialty font for 'GED' to mark the occasion--when that time arrives. (Note to self: Learn how to make a specialty font)

Quote
How will you keep track of who has pledged what?

Sorry for not addressing your questions and concerns in order, but I just viewed Lady Gaga's Born This Way. Keeping track of the pledges is simple. A member here simply states their pledging intentions. Perhaps, you're wondering how I'll keep track of the honoring of those pledges. Again, a pledger will mention it here on this board or via a PM to me. But the honoring of the pledges is not as imperative as the pledging process itself, I believe. Sure, it's important, but as I've previously stated, the growth of the pools will take care of themselves, for it's a numbers game--the more pledgers, inveterately the more honoring of their stated pledges. I hope that makes sense.

Quote
Could I send funds sufficient for a small number of charities at a time?  I like the idea of the Bitcoin100 but can't afford to be very hands on and would be happier helping by just supplying some funds.

At the moment, we don't have a system in place to storehouse honored pledges. Although one could easily be created, I feel it may cause unwanted confusion at this point coupled with the having of sorting out what is what should something go awry. BTW, how much were you considering, for I... Never mind!

Quote
Although I would want the chance to veto the donation to a charity I had a problem with I would happily accept a 3-day timeout with a default action of donating.

I believe I know what you're asking for, here, and, someway, somehow, a defense mechanism will be set in place, resulting in the harmonious appeasement of most who are also concerned with this issue.

Quote

I've saved the best for last. Thank you kindly, teukon, for honoring 1 BTC for this specific pool. The OP has been updated, reflecting your contribution.

The following charity already accepts bitcoin:

http://epicchange.org/

Since they made the decision already perhaps we should add our support and make them our first bitcoin100 charity.

(or if not here is their donation address for anyone interested 1QDFQ4EyxYcZStuhgSDiNk3eQUNcUKkWrs http://epicchange.org/donate.php)

Edit - from the blockchain they've already been doing this since November 2010! I wish I'd seen them sooner

The point of the Bitcoin100 is to get major charities to accept Bitcoin. I don't think we should use this project to fund charities that already accept Bitcoin. That doesn't mean people shouldn't donate to this particular charity, I hope everyone checks it out and donates if their cause is worth it.

Here is a VERY interesting thread about a charity that just got their funds frozen by PayPal.

If we can talk them into taking Bitcoin we get to promote Bitcoin and slap PayPal!

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!
