French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1)

[...] This happens every season, we see PSG have just a bit of a bad game and suddenly we see them considered "this season will be different, they will be horrible" but we see how they are not actually horrible and we are going to end up with a much better result. We are going to see PSG be the champions, no matter who manages to win against them, in the end the league will be theirs. Until this whole Paris FC takeover thing at least.

It is a unique fact in the farmer league, we see teams that usually win do not perform well at the beginning or middle of the season, but suddenly when all the domestic league agendas are over, they become champions in their league. One of the many farmer leagues is Ligue 1, the real champion in leagues like this is the team that is in second place, like last season in Ligue 1, AS Monaco managed to get that. By the way, it seems we haven't paid enough attention to Marseille, they are currently in top form, with Greenwood as the top scorer of the team.

Well, if we look at the whole thing, there is actually nothing special about Paris Saint Germain's game, but even so, they are still the best in Ligue 1. This is because of the inability of other teams to play well consistently, so they easily decline after they have been able to occupy the top of the standings for some time. I think that is not too far away, as long as they can get 3 points consistently. Marseille has the capital to do that, it's just that they have to execute it well. They also have a long history in Ligue 1, they have to be able to return to how they used to be, that should be a motivation for them.

But things started to go sideways and he left his job. However it seems like they have put things on the right track again. But they seem horrible in defense. Conceding 10 goals... It can cause them to lose their form easily. Do you think we would see them in top four at the end?

Honestly, every season, Marseille have always been in good form, despite some seasons where they don't make it to the top four and qualify for the Champions League. However, people always notice their good form almost every season. This season again, they have started well, because out of the seven matches played in the Ligue competition, they have managed to win four, draw two, and lose one. That shows they are in good form, and with this current performance, if they can continue, it is very possible for Marseille to end the season in the top four.

For the upcoming match of Marseille against Montpellier, I expect the match to be easy for Marseille, and for them to win the full three points because Montpellier's performance this season has been weak. Montpellier have only managed to win one match and have lost five. That is really poor form, and I can't say I'm expecting much from them against Marseille. Marseille have everything needed to win the game, and I expect that from them.

Reims this season has played against two strong teams in league 1, PSG and Marseille. As a result, they were able to hold a draw, it can be said that it is very positive as a mid-table club they can be a barrier to strong clubs and the league looks more competitive. It's just that their defense needs improvement which has so far conceded 10 goals from 7 matches. In the standings they have the same points as Marseille to be able to shift that position they can, the most important thing is as you said to maintain consistency. And because this is still early in the season all changes will happen in front of us, just enjoy their performance until the end of the season and where they will be at that time.

Marseille isn't really a great team to begin with, look at where they finished last season and I believe we are going to end up with a ton more trouble than reality and we should consider what we can do for the long term. I believe the best thing we can do with this right now would be making sure we bet carefully with them, because we can bet on them to win against a simpler team and they could still disappoint, seems like this is the case so far this season. They won 4 games, but failed to win three games, and this means even if you bet on all their games, those four wins wouldn't cover for the other three fails.

PSG on the other hand looks even worse, if you bet on all their games, we would be in even bigger trouble, in fact you would probably be in profit if you bet against PSG so far, this is a trouble and I believe PSG needs to do a lot better if they want to win, or at least they need to do better so I can win my bets and get some money thanks to them .

Marseille might be overvalued. Now this doesn't mean they shouldn't have won their last game, but it means that Marseille from today is not what they once used to be. The last title they won was in 2010! I know that back then they have been taken more seriously, but since then a lot has changed due to the rise of PSG. Yes at times there is an exceptional situation and someone else wins it, but usually it is all about PSG. Then you have got Monaco and then a few positions further down there is Marseille. But it is a huge difference if there are teams that are worth three times as much as all other teams. But if you take a team with say 300m in value and they play against teams that are around 200m in value, that is not as much a difference. I see Marseille as a top four team, but not as a title contender.

IMO, it is still not enough for Marseille to be a title contender to overthrow Paris Saint-Germain's dominance. De Zerbi still needs some ammunition to deepen and strengthen his team, especially in Marsille's attack line. So far, Marseille does not have a striker who is consistent in terms of scoring goals. As for their young striker, Elye Wahi has not shown good performance in his 6 matches and has only scored 1 goal. Neal Maupay, a striker on loan from Everton has only been able to score 1 goal in his 5 matches. These two pure strikers are less impressive than Greenwood with 5 goals, Luis Hendrique with 3 goals. Both of these players, play on the wings. The match against Montpellier, theoretically Marseille should be able to do their job well, getting full points even though it is an away game. Moreover, as we know, Montpellier is the second team in the relegation zone and they are the team that has conceded the most goals throughout Montpellier's 7 matches in this competition.

But, it seems that so far Reims can maximize good results when Reims plays against teams that are basically not part of the top teams in Ligue 1, so Reims managed to get full points in the match. Meanwhile, when Reims played against top teams like PSG and Marseille in fact Reims only got a draw,  although at the beginning of this season Reims lost against Lille but these results did not make Reims desperate. Reims could have performed better if they had improved their defense. In the 7 matches that Reims have played, all of their opponents have managed to score. Reims have scored 14 goals but conceded 10.

Compared to Marseille, I think Monaco is more worthy of being called a title contender. PSG realizes that, but also does not underestimate Marseille's abilities this season. In the first 7 matches, Monaco proved to us that they are a good team. Their defense is strong with only conceding 4 goals in 7 matches, while they also have pretty good goal statistics. Monaco scored an average of 2 goals in 7 Ligue 1 matches so far, meaning they have scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 until week 7. Compared to PSG, Monaco's defense is stronger so far.

Marseille gets a low ranked opponent in the next match where Montpellier is not a strong team because they are in the relegation zone. To bet on this match I think we can choose Marseille to be the winner because in terms of strength of course Marseille is stronger. Even so, predictions are not always right because I am sure Montpellier will try hard to win in front of their supporters.

For Marseille where they in the last two matches also did not go well because they were held to a draw by Angers and defeated by Strasbourg. If Marseille manages to recruit Pogba in the January transfer window, as is rumored, their strength to become a trophy challenger will be even more taken into account.

By my judgment, Reims, is gradually becoming some sort of reliable with their performance as they are now doing much better than i have seen and known them to be last season and if they can maintain this form, though they may not be able to win the league title they will be able to finish well such that they will be amongst top teams and be bale to make it to playing in other to leagues next season, this I'm saying because they were able to hold PSG and Marseille who happens to be to teams tin their league now to a draw and didn't loose the game.

I'm always keeping an eye on all the details of the Ligue 1 teams , but what really catches my attention is that Marseille is gaining a lot of popularity. I haven't seen a full Marseille game until now, but what I have seen convinces me quite a bit , not to mention Lille because Lille surprised me in the UCL. Now, I don't know if the teams are also different in the UCL, but it's something that I like because I see Marseille with more desire, and I also see them well because it is no longer the same dominance of a PSG, that PSG that was scary when Mbappé and that terrible trident were there , well , now the teams are believing it and the level of this Ligue 1 is rising.
