How to make old people understand Bitcoin?

Until now, my parents didn’t understand the technology of Bitcoin. I only explained to them in a non-technical way, like it’s an alternative version of stock trading. Since my dad is very familiar of stock market (he even bought stocks back then). I just told them that it’s way easier to buy Bitcoin and volatility is high. I also let them watch educational videos about the basics of Bitcoin.

I don't see any strategies that will work in teaching the old about Bitcoin.
We know already that the old people doesn't have the capability to memorize things because of their age, their are tend to forget easier compare to those people who are around the 30's or 40's. It is hard for them to teach Bitcoin especially for those old people who are not techy or not even exposed to the technology since on their prime, things like this doesn't exist at all. There are some old people too that will just ignore it since they are old already. They don't have any time or at least interest to learn it.

In my place, I'm the only one who knows the basic things of crypto and I'm not teaching it to any of them. Its not that I don't like but I don't feel that they are interested on it too.

basically rich seniors are still into technology because they run a business and hold much money but for those who are not lucky to have a wealth like them , we can only see this seniors resting on thier home and have no interest to technology  but this can be changed if they still have the passion to learn it . its not yet too late as long as they are still healthy and can hear , read without problems . you wont know if you dont try mate , but its better if youl try to educate people on your place

Firt of all what age are we considering for an old person? If this above 60 then this will be a tough task for them. We all knew that some old people are not much aware of the recent innovations cause their time they dont encounter these things but they are adjusting from internet, to mobile phone and much advance than that.

Teaching them bitcoin can be done on a manner of their perception. Only you can balance it, if they can still do some of the heavy analyzing or not. But to be honest, dont really have an idea how.

This is not an easy task. Older people are usually not interested in new technologies, they think they don't need them and that are too complicated for them. I've tried with my parents but without success, they still have negative opinion about it and they don't think Bitcoin is something that is necessary for their lives so they are not interested to learn more.

It is easy for old people that are educated and show interest in learning. These are very rear but they exist. For some of them that already know how to make bank transaction (i.e sending money though mobile app and USSD code) you can easily teach them to send and receive bitcoins using wallet such as the bitpay. I may not suggest DEX  wallet totally for them because if they lost their seed phrase, it may be difficult

I give up to teach older people who have more than 50-60 years old because they don't want to learn something, especially if that is about technology. They said that they are getting old, and they cannot understand how it works. Once I tried to teach my daddy, even I tried to tell about how to use the bitcoin wallet over and over, he cannot remember it, and he gives up to use that wallet. I tried to other people, but they say that I am difficult to understand how that wallet works, and I think I will let you use it because you are younger than me.

The idea of bitcoin has evolved into something different than what satoshi has envisioned. Considering the whitepaper, it was meant to be used as a mode of payment for the internet users. But with the current scenario, people with far less common sense are jumping into investing/trading bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies with the sole purpose of being rich as soon as possible and selling when they are having profits. I would never say everyone trading bitcoin do really know the purpose or technology behind the currency but rather think as a high yield scheme which will make them rich at some point of time in their life. Hence, for the older generations it won't be really difficult if we introduce bitcoin as a trading scheme but rather it might pose a difficulty if they are eager to learn the technology behind bitcoin.

Read all three volumes of "Internet of Money" and a not really fast paced "Digital Gold" book. You would be having an excellent way of approach to make the old people understand about bitcoin (neglecting the technology behind bitcoin). Bitcoin works just similar to coins and bank notes since we always get a change when we do the transaction which is lesser than what we initially have in our wallet. While you are educating the old people about bitcoin, completely neglect the trading strategy which is quite popular in crypto space but rather introduce bitcoin as a digital currency invented to prevent the centralization of banks.

I think I am eligible to post this since I have successfully managed to educate a 70-year old person about bitcoin last year. The person was able to understand bitcoin quite a bit and was able to do some simple transactions through mycelium once last year between me and them. I have lost contact with the person and not really sure if they are using bitcoin still, but they were able to grasp the basics of a digital currency in layman terms.

I think most people over complicate the issue of having to explain Bitcoin to people. (Young and old)  ...Let's be honest, how many people still think Fiat currencies are backed by Gold and how many of them know what SWIFT in the Banking sector does for money transfers?

The same is applicable to Bitcoin... they should not have to know how mining is done or what the Byzantine Generals Problem is.    What they need to know is that bitcoin is a electronic payment option, just like any other payment option, for example PayPal /Credit card etc.. (main difference is that it is not controlled by a central entity)

They should know what a wallet is and how to copy and paste Bitcoin addresses. (Do not even explain Private keys to them, because they might give out the wrong information)

Viola! Done... Now they can login to a wallet (one that you helped to create) and then pay someone in Bitcoin. (Obviously explain Preev.com to help with the Crypto conversion from Fiat to Crypto value)

It's more of interest and adoption of technology than the age or knowledge. I call myself a crypto literate and I want every of my colleges and family know about it. There are several of my same age colleges that are to some extent into crypto and bitcoin. As of my family, my mother in her 50 is the most curious one and who knows much about crypto than my brother. My brother is a electric engineer but is so reluctant to know about new things and is so inattentive to anything that he doesn't listen to me a bit. I have several times tried to convince him to invest in crypto and in front of him have shown my periodic portfolios but he is too dumb to change. My mom on the other hand listens me attentively and tries to give me advice.

You need to know first if they are interested in bitcoin or not. Because it can be tough knowing that not all older people can cope up with gadgets. It might just waste your time trying to teach them when they are not even interested, same with younger people. But if they are really interested, that makes it easier to teach them since they are willing to learn. Then you can probably start with the basic explanation and try to avoid using a lot of technical terms, I guess? When you tell them some technical terms, explain it to them in a way that they can understand. For me, teaching older people is not impossible, it's just a matter of interest and approach.

I want to let the elderly know about the "Bitcoin revolution", yet I find it quite challenging to explain it to them in a way they can understand how it all works. There are some wallets that have a "user-friendly" interface, but even the basics of sending/receiving Bitcoin can have a steep learning curve for the older people. A Bitcoin wallet with built-in accessibility features, could help even elder people with vision or hearing problems to use the pioneer cryptocurrency in their daily lives.

If you happen to know of a way to make old people understand Bitcoin easily, please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the e-wallet with fiat itself not all the people know how to use it, how about the bitcoin?

1. first thing first tell them about bitcoin and their value of it
2. tell about bitcoin doesn't have central and not controlled by any government so they no need to worry if anything goes wrong
3. last but not least tell them if u can make real money with it and buy some stuff of it
4. and the last i think is very needed to create some tool to make easy like card with 1 tap to pay or something like that

I honestly want to do that here too, to make parents who are too monotonous and who only believe in gold and traditional banking also believe about the future of bitcoin. actually they like the technology that is owned by bitcoin, but there is one problem they are afraid of, that is about the volatility of bitcoin prices which changes rapidly, this is what makes parents here afraid of losing their assets if they enter the bitcoin circle.

The perfect recipe for disaster. First of all, why make it sound like Bitcoin is perfect and hide its disadvantages? It's not like you're trying to advertise some product. Then.. those other two points I've quoted do nothing besides making the other person imagine Bitcoin is the place you go to when you want to get rich.

False ideas such as "Bitcoin makes you rich" is literally the perfect recipe for disaster - especially if you're new in the space. Better be honest instead and tell them the truth. Bitcoin is probably one of the most volatile assets, which means you can double your amount as fast and easy as getting it halvened.

Only smart people can understand bitcoin easily. Age doesn't matter to learn and understand bitcoin. There are young people that is difficult to understand even you explained it very well ,step by step. I believe if someone is willing to learn,then it will be easy for them to understand it.

It all depends on how much these old people hae to do with technology. You can have a 70 year old who doesn't know how to use a mobile phone or a 70 year old who uses a computer every day and calls grandchildren using skype. People who don't use any electronic devices are a lost cause, just like people who never had a computer in their lives.

I told my parents about bitcoin through the price and profit I got from bitcoin, and my parents understood what bitcoi was, what bitcoin worked and what bitcoi did. so my advice, you should introduce the value of bitcoin to your parents first

Most of the old people are having a problem in following the latest technology that we have right now so I can see that this is a big hurdle that we need to face if in case we
would like to introduce bitcoin or crypto to them.

I didn't see any good way to do it quickly, what I can see to make them understand what is crypto and how to use them is to teach them first on how to use a simple wallet first and do it slowly.
Then we can just explain to them the usage of bitcoin or crypto currencies, in a way that they can understand easily like giving a simple example that they can easily get.

In my opinion, getting parents to understand Bitcoin is a bit difficult. Because my own parents did not really know and understand the world of technology, especially if it was presented with a discussion and understanding of bitcoin.
Everyone on this forum has their own way of introducing Bitcoin to their parents or loved ones.
I myself introduced bitcoin to my parents as a Digital Currency that can be exchanged for cash or real money. By trading it on an exchange. I also said that bitcoin can be used for any payment but not for my country. Bitcoin is a technology of the future that will change the way of payment today.

And I also say the last time, that Bitcoin is a good investment tool but with high voterity.

I've been through an attempt of explaining Bitcoin to my grandfather. It should be noted that old people can be different, and my grandfather is one of those who can use the Internet both of a computer and a smartphone. He's a scientist, and he's been using computers and the Internet since the early-early days. So the problem wasn't so much about what Bitcoin is (he could understand it fine), but that he was already prejudiced against Bitcoin (and still is, unfortunately), believing that the monetary system should be backed by the government or otherwise there's too much risk involved.
I've also tried to tell my spouse's grandmother about Bitcoin. It was a completely different experience because she only uses an old mobile phone and is very cautious even with it. She doesn't use the Internet and has no idea what's out there. She's afraid of it and doesn't want it in her life. So she did not want to know more about Bitcoin than 'the money on the Internet which is not controlled by any government'. She's neutral to it, but would never use something she cannot touch (she's slowly getting used to a debit card, but that's because it's been around her for a while). My point is, there's probably no universal approach to explaining Bitcoin to the elderly, because there are very different people among them and individual approaches should be found. And a big obstacle is that people who don't use technologies in general are not going to use Bitcoin unless they absolutely have to.
