There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

A person of a certain age can have limited perception of new ideas, technology or financial forms. If someone does not possess a certain background in both tech and economics what exactly are you going to teach? How to use a computer or a smartphone?

First of all you don't call anyone old person. This is bad manners and noone will listen to you once they realize such attitude.

The term used and technology might be confusing for the elderly. What I will suggest is to have a platform that will not require copying and pasting wallet addresses or scanning any QR code. What if they can receive and send using their mobile number? They all have this in their memory and they are used to sending SMS. If such can be provided that will link sending digital assets using SMS API, it will be easier to explain how it works. They can even demonstrate such between themselves and receive within 5 minutes which will break all barriers of the traditional banking system.

To even step further, if they send lets to say BTC and such is converted to fiat, it will be like a margic when all will be settled with few minutes with negligible fees.

it will be easier for you if they are familiar with technology. Otherwise it will difficult for you to educate them and quite impossible if they are uneducated.

Impossible is the right word. I know some old folks and they don't have a clue how anything in the house works. They don't even know how to set the time in electronic clocks. Anything with buttons is black magic to them.

If your folks are asking you what type of batteries they need for the TV remote you know it's a lost cause.

Not only it gives them confusing but of less interest with. The elderly showing less interest as they know that they can't make it perfectly and out of their capabilities. Computer era isn't making them at ease which is the only tool to make them fully understand Bitcoin. Using FIAT money , debit/credit cards are they known already and I believe that they are comfortable with it.

It somehow to let them know what is Bitcoin is a good idea but have them taking part of it, it only gives them hassles.

From what I have experience on teaching an old person to understand bitcoin is really tough. Since they are not interested anymore on how this technology works. They just barely understand the old tradition in the old ways which are more comfortable to them. The best for this is to make a way to discuss bitcoin in a simple manner as much as possible you discuss bitcoin just like giving them an example so they can understand easily. Show them how it works and how to use and received bitcoin.
Well, I appreciate this kind of effort if someone can do this to the old people, -most especially age above '70s.
That is right, it is hard for them to understand the technology, even my grandfather doesn't know how to use a mobile phone. The word [Technology] will very hard for them to understand or even absurd their mind. But despite their ability, let us not discourage them, let them understand the useful usage of bitcoin even they dont know the technical explanation on it. The benefit of bitcoin must they understand and perhaps their retirement plan someday.

I’ve tried explaining it to my mother before. I just focused on explaining the computer and digital aspect of it. Cryptography is way too hard to explain to a lot of older folk so didn’t get much in to that. I think she understood a good bit.

There is no easy way to try to do that. I think that theoretically we can make it easier by taking examples that are easier to understand. Maybe by likening the safe as a wallet with data encryption, and storing it safely without a third party, gold as cryptocurrency. We can change the parables according to their characteristics, but in practice it will be difficult if there is no basic of information system from old people.

It will be really a tough task to do. We need to have more patience as we can. It might not be easy but they will get it eventually.
Probably, the best way to do is introduce it first to them, how it works what is it for.
Then do some demonstrations. Also give them some example scenarios even if it is real or not, but it is better if real, so that they can understand you you even more.

the best and easiest way is to tell the bitcoin price. because the price of bitcoin will be more easily accepted by anyone ... because when talking about technology to parents it is not easy because parents usually do not understand technology

Its not that easy to teach nor make them understand, unless this old people has the willingness to discover new things in this millennial generation. They used to live in their traditional and conservative ways and if they refuse to learn about the digital currencies, we can't force them in doing so. So, I think the best way here is to know their eagerness and the curiosity in understanding crypto currencies as well as digital payments. They will learn slowly through step by step tutorial with Bitcoins great and accessible features.

To be honest yes it's difficult to make older people understand about Bitcoin.
But if we see it in a practical way it's not impossible too.
I mean a person learns something in each and every second of his life, so it's possible to make them understand about the crypto.
Yes at first they might do some mistakes, but definitely they won't repeat those after getting acquainted with it for a longer period of time.
And as per the research, it's said that older people take wise and matured decisions, so they will take it while trading/investing in Cryptos (Bitcoins).
So the only thing we can do at the current point of time is to make them practice about the crypto things more and more.
Hope this helps you Op .

Perhaps, you could explain it through relating bitcoin to things they could understand, in specific, use analogy instead such as sending bitcoin is like sending a text message, you need a phone number in which the wallet address of the recipient and the message as the amount of bitcoin you have as simple as that. But with the concepts of private keys and public keys, I believe that there's no reason for them to know it if they can't, the most essential things about bitcoin is how their could store, and send funds without their heads suffering by understanding hashes.

If they insist, just do the same thing, use analogy, just like this: "Private keys and public keys are just like your facebook account, you need your username as your public key, and your password as your private key in order to view your profile" in which, their wallet.

The real challenge is educating those who don't use computers.
You need to start with a fairly simple system, and I've found that a chromebook is best. Then you have to get them used to using google, youtube and email. Once they are comfortable with that. Then you can move them onto online banking, and making payments through the panel. Describing Bitcoin is quite difficult, and I have found it is easier if you can think of an analogy. The UK land registry seems to be a good example. You can point out that all the details are stored in a variety of records in a computer based ledger, and items can be added or sold from that collection of records. The whole collection of records comprises a description of the property owned. Once you have got them to understand those basic concepts, then you can start to describe the actual mechanics of Bitcoin.

I think it is very hard for the old people to understand bitcoin. Beause bitcoin is really new to them and in there time when they are still young there is no crypto currency maybe they can still understand it but in a very slow way. It depends on teaching or extending the information to them.

There are two kinds of old people out there, one is educated and the other is not. You can simply just explain it to the first using the basic things about bitcoin which you can find here: https://www.weusecoins.com/en/questions/

For the second kind of old person, you can use simple logic which their mind can digest easily. use an example with the things they always do or find some example which you can make them understand easily.

Well, this is the very problem of almost everyone here who wants their parents or grand parents to even consider learning about this industry. There really is no easy way of teaching older people about this industry. Specially the ones who are not even into digital stuff and still uses keypad phones or does not even use phones. The even more difficult problem is that most of these older people do not want to open their minds about this industry. Which is then even harder for us to make them understand and teach them even the most basic parts. It's just sad that this happens a lot :/

There's plenty more to think about before Bitcoin comes in place. I even believe that some between in their 40s or pre-senior age don't know that much on the technology we got these days.
Age is irrelevant.
Hell, considering how many folks of all ages seem to mistakenly think that all cryptocoins are "Bitcoin" (They aren't. Only BTC is BTC, all others are altcoins) this is more of a general education issue.

Do old people really want to know about Bitcoin? Are they really interested in technologies? How could learning about Bitcoin make their lives better?
If need to explain Bitcoin as simple as possible, you can find a lot of videos a kind of "Bitcoin for dummies"

Sending and receiving Bitcoin through QR code may be the best way for them as they don't have to manually input and check addresses which are oftentimes in small fonts.

The fundamentals of Bitcoin should be enough for them. Security in general, dos and donts, and some tips on how not to get hacked or phished or scammed are also very important for them to understand.

Also, their wallets should only contain amounts that they could spend on a daily or weekly basis. I guess regular refills could be done by their children or grandchildren who are more knowledgeable about Bitcoin.

QR codes are simple enough for most people to scan in order to send payment to the encoded address. But we all know that the elderly are not quite fond with technology. It's best for them to have some sort of custodian that will take care of their Bitcoin funds. Unless, developers design a wallet with accessibility in mind (larger fonts, built-in text-to-speech features, etc) I don't see old people adopting Bitcoin in their daily lives. The elderly will always be the minority as they often find it quite challenging to use technology in their daily lives. With Bitcoin IRA options available today, old people can contribute to their retirement account in Bitcoin without the need to understand how it works. Third-parties could take care of all the hard work and efforts of securing and preserving elder people's Bitcoin balances against undesired situations in cyberspace.

Anyhow, we all know that we don't need Bitcoin to live a successful life. I think that most old people will continue using physical cash until it's phased out from existence. Then, they'll be forced to use digital payments either via CBDCs or crypto. Governments and the crypto community in general would need to educate the world about digital payments, in order to make old people's lives easier. It's all a matter of mainstream adoption than anything else. Just my opinion Smiley
