if indeed they are interested in understanding bitcoin they need patience and thoroughness to teach it,
but my question is whether they are interested in learning it ??
I am sure they are comfortable using paper money and do not want to bother using Bitcoin with all the technology,
but that doesn't mean parents can't, there must be some parents out there who already understand Bitcoin.
That is for sure. Since most of the older generations are more inclined with traditional way of doing things, adjustments are expected to be done on their end. It is not easy but it doesn't mean that they cannot learn Bitcoin.

It is safe to say that my father belongs to the older generation. He showed a lot of interest in Bitcoin mainly because he kept hearing about it on TV. I had the same doubts as OP and I was trying to find the best way to help him understand and get interested in Bitcoin.

Since he likes to read, I concluded that the best thing to do was to get him a book for beginners. A few days ago I got him a book in German. He doesn't speak English and the topic Bitcoin and Crypto isn't covered that much in my local language. I saw him reading it the first day and after that he put it aside. I could see that it is not his thing. Undecided

I haven't asked him why yet, because I am still hoping he will give it another try. The first part of the book talks about fiat money. My opinion is that he probably read something he didn't like about fiat money and abandoned the idea. The older generation is stubborn, and they don't see any benefits in crypto and being their own bank. They went their whole life doing the opposite.

It is indeed very difficult for old people to learn new things, my parents who are 60 years old chose to keep using cellphones
old model, rather than replacing using a more sophisticated android phone. Especially regarding Bitcoin which is more complicated,
It takes patience to teach old people to really understand Bitcoin. Do it slowly and gradually in explaining Bitcoin to old people,
even better old people practicing using Bitcoin too, that's make understand more quickly.

I will probably simply tell them a "bank" on the internet that is owned and controlled by honest participants/users/community without restrictions.    Bitcoin is more than a bank though, but to avoid confusing them, I will just start with "a bank" and gradually let them understand it properly/fully.

Not all elderly people are having hard time understanding and accepting crytocurrency nowsdays. Teaching them would be easy if you let them experience and talk to someone about the same age as them who has knowledge about how cryptocurrency in general works. But the problem is not all elderly people are open for this kind of stuff because they are used to be in the traditional business and fiat investments.

maybe it is a burden on your shoulders, it is very difficult to invite parents to join cryptocurrencies because most parents don't know about technology at this time, so we have to teach how to use phones and laptops, after that we teach one - one by one about bitcoin and altcoin. I think it took a very long time to teach parents about bitcoin because their memory is weak.
My advice is if parents find it difficult to understand about bitcoin, we better borrow the money to trade and invest and then the profit is divided in half.

Yes, there are still a lot of old people like your parents. Even some people are not familiar with old model cellphone let alone bitcoin/crypto currency. A huge amount of people are still now illiterate.

Some of the old people was illiterate and don't have a knowledge about crypto currency. They may not aware about smart phone also, but still they have huge intrest on the factor which deal with money. Even my grandpa is illiterate and don't aware about smartphone, since you can't get 10$ easily from him. They will have more eager towards money making things.

I'm looking for the easiest way to make old people understand Bitcoin more thoroughly. I want to let the elderly know about the "Bitcoin revolution", yet I find it quite challenging to explain it to them in a way they can understand how it all works. There are some wallets that have a "user-friendly" interface, but even the basics of sending/receiving Bitcoin can have a steep learning curve for the older people. A Bitcoin wallet with built-in accessibility features, could help even elder people with vision or hearing problems to use the pioneer cryptocurrency in their daily lives.

If you happen to know of a way to make old people understand Bitcoin easily, please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
Its never been easy to make these old people do learn about Bitcoin or even telling them the basics would really be pain in the ass.I cant think of any other way or basics of the basics trying to explain on what bitcoin is all about. Most of them doesnt really tend to hear out nor accept new innovation on todays generation and rather do stick out with that traditional fiat system. Trying to explain something that is out of their grasp would really be
challenging. It depends on a certain elderly if he/she's open with these stuffs because there are still some who still get curios when someone do introduce new things to them. Why not just letting them see some
youtube video? I think this is much better rather than explaining it verbally and it do save up time and hard work on doing so.

Agree, especially if the old people are not that good at using a technology device like smartphones, it would be very difficult. But if you really want to explain how to understand Bitcoin or cryptocurrency, try to explain how digital money works and I guess they will understand it as money stored on the internet. Explaining blockchain will be useless because it's already a complex term and I doubt that they will remember any term or explanation about it.

If they're using smartphones and aware of online banking, it's similar but the difference is bitcoin has its different market and it's decentralized where no one controls it. Don't be specific on explaining some terms, just mentioned those easy-to-understand terms.

The old people, in general, do not want to use modern technologies they think that those are complicated and not meant for them. They usually don't even have the curiosity like a child, we need to make them curious about BTC by telling how it is changing the world economy, in future, it is possible to construct an economy without a bank. Lastly, if we can gift them some BTC then they become curious about BTC and will start to understand maybe.

It would be challenging to explain how bitcoin works to elders since bunch of them aren’t really open into new understandings especially those who are contented with what they already knew.

There could be a lot of factors that could hinder how the information you give and say could reach them like the usual communication barriers. However, it’s not impossible to do so.

By being meticulous with your choice of words and analogy, you can always make them understand what bitcoin is. You should have a proper open communication when you’re explaining things out to an elderly. Always choose the simple terms, situational examples, and comparisons to make them understand what you’re trying to say. Teach them the basics and fundamentals and let them figure it out little by little while you’re guiding them.

Tell them the pros and cons, do’s and don’ts, give them some tips and tricks but don’t fed them with so much information at once. Entertain their questions and clarifications about what you’ve said and i think by then, they could properly understand what bitcoin is.

I think the best way is to go down to their level and not them going to your level avoid hard to understand terminology, and if there's a terminology that you want them to understand translate it to their language or meanings that they can fully understand, old people as we all know comes from a different generation, you have to understand the generation where they come from.

And if you want to make it easier, I think you should target a specific group of old people. If you will randomly get old people just to tell them about btc, it will somehow be hard. Try targeting old people who live their life around the aspect of money, banking, investments, stocks, technology etc. They will be interested about it as long as you are good in explaining. But of course you can still try other group of old people specially those who are not even aware of the technologies we have right now. Goodluck with that OP.

There are only a small percentage of old people that are in the banking sector or in finance and most of them would be knowing what is bitcoin but they have spent their entire lives doing transactions in fiat and now they would not be as flexible like a new comer adult in the same industry, just have a look at Warren Buffet, he don't want to indulge in bitcoin maybe because he doesn't like that much volatility and want to play safe with his billions of dollars now in his old age, I guess it will be better to make the adults understand about bitcoins and also the children, they are the future of the world.

The easiest way for old and old people to understand the bitcoin system is to try to find examples in their lives. You can use the political system as an example of decentralization - for example, communism or anarchy. And how centralization is a dictatorship or a democracy.

People are individually unique. We cannot see the level of enjoyment and awareness of the people when they are using technology. Maybe, this is easy to other specially those who had education but there are older people who can't take any changes. I think we cannot force them to know all about cryptocurrency because it might just end their lives. Sharing only about btc is a good way for them not to be ignorance. After all, the dedication they will put in order to know is their liability.

You have to add the first filter to be used as a reference for someone whether or not to use bitcoin, namely smartphones.

Make sure only old people who can use android should be your target.

After that, you just have to give them education about new payment instruments, then you teach them to pay using bitcoin, that way the longer they use bitcoin, the more familiar they will with bitcoin and by itself bitcoin will be easy to use.

We had an encounter on when an elderly got really excited to learn about Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies. He said that he already heard about it but did not engage into further understanding about it since it sounded like a fraud or impossible way to earn money. He got more engaged when we told him about unlimited possibilities to earn Bitcoin by only using a mobile phone. He then later further studied how to mine properly and now owns a mining equipment for Bitcoin. We can teach old people that it is still not to late to learn about Cryptocurrencies since there is always something new to learn about.

I really like what you said "end their lives" hahah.
Yes old people should be left alone at which most of them are best, they should enjoy their retirement in peace, although my grandfather isn't like the rest, he knows a lot about finance and investing as he started from zero and was living paycheck to paycheck in the start of his career, but after coming from work he used to do research about investments and used to meet people and eventually his hard-work paid off and he became a millionaire by investing in rental properties and some other third party collateral free loans as the taker really pay huge interest on the principal in those types of loans, so he used to teach me a lot about investing in my adolescent years.

If you ask how to explain Bitcoin to old people, I will share my experience. I have parents who are not young anymore, in the beginning I explained Bitcoin to them in 2017. I explained to my parents that "Bitcoin is a digital currency, which has a limited supply, and has fantastic value. easy to make transactions in large quantities anywhere and anytime. And the unique thing is bitcoin can be mined and traded ". At least that's how I explained Bitcoin to my parents.
