I think the Bitcoin community should build Webinars and training center's where they could learn and practive the deep universe of Bitcoin and other altcoins. Teaching them step by step and move to more advanced complicated lessons.
Teach them the essential of Cryptocurrency asset and how its much safer than putting money into banks.

It would not be easy for them to make it understand but if they believe you or they are known one to you then you can explain the advantage, what are the features, share your personal experiences and how it has added value t you and also how someone or yourself made some money from it etc. This might just help the to get some insightful on this.

when the adoption comes like we all need to pay things from grocery stores using the wallets of cryptocurrencies or maybe even the digital fiats, there may not be the need to explain it to them for they will have to crave for it that they will come to bitcointalk.org to learn more.

as for now all i would just say is that they can use the QR codes to send and receive BTC and Bitcoin is like money whether they like it or not.

Age is irrelevant. What matters is that a person is tech-savy and sad to say - many many folks of all ages - including the young'uns are not. Far too many folks have no idea how everyday things work (eg the internet, smartphones, browsers) and risks associated with blindly 'just using' them with no safeguards in place. Bitcoin and the plethora of shit altcoins are no different in that respect.

Statistically it is relevant.

How many people in their 80s are tech savvy? How many in their 90s? Probably 1% or less.

How many people in the age of 20 are tech savvy? 30%? maybe more?

It depends on what country you live. Obviously, old people in more developed countries will know much more about technology while the ones in third-world countries will likely not even know how to use a phone or the internet. In the latter case it is almost impossible to teach them how to use Bitcoin. The learning curve is simply to steep for a 60-70 year old man with no technical background.

It is safe to say that my father belongs to the older generation. He showed a lot of interest in Bitcoin mainly because he kept hearing about it on TV. I had the same doubts as OP and I was trying to find the best way to help him understand and get interested in Bitcoin.

Since he likes to read, I concluded that the best thing to do was to get him a book for beginners. A few days ago I got him a book in German. He doesn't speak English and the topic Bitcoin and Crypto isn't covered that much in my local language. I saw him reading it the first day and after that he put it aside. I could see that it is not his thing. Undecided

I haven't asked him why yet, because I am still hoping he will give it another try. The first part of the book talks about fiat money. My opinion is that he probably read something he didn't like about fiat money and abandoned the idea. The older generation is stubborn, and they don't see any benefits in crypto and being their own bank. They went their whole life doing the opposite.

For what I know, old people are reluctant to change. They don't want to get out of their "comfort zone" after being accustomed to using physical cash for a long time. Seeing the elderly using Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency is a rarity these days. Those willing to understand how Bitcoin works and how to use it in their daily lives will be one in a millionth. Old people will continue to use physical cash until it's completed phased out from existence. When CBDCs are introduced, old people might as well continue using Fiat instead of Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency on the market because of their price stability.

But who knows? In crypto land, strange and bizarre things happen. There could be a possibility that some old people will become interested in using Bitcoin in their daily lives. It's up to us to spread the word out there about the true benefits of Bitcoin relative to Fiat. With so many educational materials available either online or physically, it becomes easy enough for anyone to understand the "mechanics" of Bitcoin. The only thing one needs to be concerned of is the lack of user friendliness in Bitcoin wallets. But that's changing at a slow and steady pace, as developers work hard in order to make Bitcoin wallets as friendly to the user as possible. This will trigger massive adoption in the mainstream world, leading everyone from kids to adults and the elderly using Bitcoin for day-to-day transactions. Just my thoughts Grin

I agree with your opinion, maybe through a webinar and explained in detail with a projector, maybe all parents will understand, and not only that if we want to really explain with parents it's good to schedule meetings at least two or three times a week so that they quickly understand how cryptocurrency works and how easy it is to use cryptocurrency for payments and purchases using Bitcoin or Altcoin.

I'm looking for the easiest way to make old people understand Bitcoin more thoroughly. I want to let the elderly know about the "Bitcoin revolution", yet I find it quite challenging to explain it to them in a way they can understand how it all works.
I am working for my grandfather to understand and try to check Crypto as an investments since he is still active in some businesses but he never give any importance, always saying that he is not interested and contented in His real business with real money involvement lol.
Quote
There are some wallets that have a "user-friendly" interface, but even the basics of sending/receiving Bitcoin can have a steep learning curve for the older people. A Bitcoin wallet with built-in accessibility features, could help even elder people with vision or hearing problems to use the pioneer cryptocurrency in their daily lives.
They are not concern about the wallets instead their mind is not ready or capacity to absorb another form of investments and they are believing in real money in hands instead of virtual.
Quote
If you happen to know of a way to make old people understand Bitcoin easily, please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
Maybe all i can advise is never stop, let Them see your progress and maybe in time they will decide in sideways.

It's a bad idea teaching old people to use bitcoin. Mostly old people in my country don't know how to use cellphone or computer. But if they knew, what will be in their mind if you introduce bitcoin to them? In news, bitcoin always mention because in our country many investment scam use bitcoin as their mode of payment. Old people always watch news, and if I'll introduce it to them they'll avoid it and think that it is a scam.

I am agree with your statement that television plays a key role in eldery people's choices. Lots of them still do not understand that TV is just a huge mechanism of manipulations. Sometimes even in case people among elders use computers, Internet and even online means for payments or so, they still used to believe to the news and statements of government representatives. But I saw and met among elder people lots of who are very deeply involved into crypto world and even always hold their finger on the pulse on the new directions in crypto like DeFi, different new projects and so on. In my opinion it is better to choose people who are active in life in general. Because those elder people who prefer stating at home and watching TV, live only for payments from the government, they will not be ready to leave their comfortable armchairs and to accept changes even with some perspectives. It would be easier to explain the topic of Bitcoin and crypto, because active people in life in general are more open to the new views and information, they are not afraid of trying something new and to change something in their usual life. And first of course - it is better to show them new opportunities that may appear in their lives in case of using crypto and Blockchain.

You need not waste your time to make understood the old people. There are many young people who need to understand bitcoin. It is very much necessary to participate all the young generation into bitcoin transaction for creating a bitcoin revolution.

Why not? Just because they are that old means they should not be tought about the matter too? What you are saying is a kind of discrimination tho. Age discrimination perhaps.
It's okay to teach old people about new technologies. Bitcoin might be helpful for some part of their lives such as but not limited to conviently sending/receiving funds, and making payments.
That should help because old people mostly need more rest. Less effort, more rest time for them.

I'm pretty sure older people will have a hard time understanding Bitcoin. Why? Because there's a lot of jargons involve and they don't know the street language like the local currency.

Of course, it will be difficult for older people to understand bitcoin using new words and slang, but our task is to explain to people of different degrees of development in such a way that they would understand it.
In the wording that they understand. After all, bitcoin is not something supernatural, it is a technology that works in a certain way, and can be explained in completely different ways and examples.

To be honest, it is great for them to use such technologies but I don't think we should force it to them. It is great for them to learn using them, but do you think it will be interesting for them? I think almost all of them will not be interested in it, that is the reason why this is hard. Most of them are not even interested in computers and mobile phones, how much more making a transactions using bitcoin.

Why not make an app or a website that has an easy interface that can be used by the olders.. Its sure not just helping the olders to understand how to used bitcoin but also helping a lot of newbies that wanna joined bitcoin also.. Some olders might be have no clues at all how bitcoin work but if we can convince them to try to used bitcoin im sure this will make thing different.

The biggest obstacle to your suggestion is that many of the parents don't own a smartphone...
old people will be easily offended if taught new things by young people so I think the best way to tell them is to patiently guide them, for example by buying them an item using the money generated from selling Bitcoin or buy using Bitcoin then they will automatically believe that the Bitcoin is very useful.

It would be very difficult to teach the elders about bitcoin if they also did not understand today's technology such as computers and smartphones.
surely they will still choose the traditional way that they have understood for a long time.

In my own basic explanation, I will explain to them that Bitcoin can buy goods and services on the internet. It can also be withdrawn using a bank account in my country. I will tell them that it needs to be converted in local currency using an app or exchange in order to withdraw it to their bank.

Totally true, if they do not have fundamental knowledge about the modern technology then you better start with that one because it will interconnect along the way. In my opinion, educating elderly about bitcoin and modern technology in general is a pretty good thing because most them will be leaving inheritance and there will entitled pieces of shit family member that will try to trick the inheritance, if we encouraged the education of elderly with modern technology then more entitled POS family member will not be able to trick them.

I think the first step is to explain how their local currency works, and why fiat currencies have no intrinsic value.

TV ads about Bitcoin could greatly induce the elderly into knowing more about it. However, such efforts could be in vain as most seniors aren't into the latest technological breakthroughs. All the "technical jargon" surrounding crypto/Blockchain tech, makes everything look complicated especially to non-tech savvy people. The elderly are better off using physical cash for daily payments, as it won't be going anywhere soon. It might take decades before the world's economy fully transitions into a cashless one. While we're in the "transition phase", physical cash will still be a relevant payment method. I'd expect the elderly choosing physical cash over Bitcoin because of its easier learning curve and price stability. Only a small minority will use Bitcoin as an alternative financial system for their own benefit.

All in all, young people will be the ones that will adopt Bitcoin to a full extent. It's evident that old people are reluctant to change. They're accustomed to the traditional way of making payments via the legacy financial system. While it's not that hard to make the elderly understand how Bitcoin works and how to use it, most of them will continue living with Fiat. There are many educational materials available on the web right now that you can use to carefully guide old people into the "crypto revolution". In all ends, the decision of joining Bitcoin will ultimately lie on the person himself. Just my opinion Smiley
