Some people have strong issue due gambling, they can't stop gambling, unfortunately they are just addicted.
I am curious to understand why some people become addicted while other not. It's not just a matter of self discipline. Probably there is a mechanism on human brain that can allow this issue, like drug addiction.

NEVER try to recover the losses since it will generate a negative effect were people are forced to play more ( = losing even more!)

I've read that there are underlying conditions why a gambling addict got addicted to gambling, it can be depression, anxiety, sadness, drug addiction, longing, and etc. They are addicted because there is something within, it's one of a reason why almost everyone here are talking about getting a professional, cause the professional will help you pinpoint that specific problem within to control your addiction. Some can do it themselves but some really need to talk with the professionals.

If you have felt something different in your self that you didn't expected and you always seeking a gambling activity, you should pay attention to this because gambling addict is really hard to cure and it needs usually days or weeks. Why we are letting our self to be addicted in gambling, if you are already self oriented, you can gamble regularly and has a limit in your self.

That's true that is why they kept this addiction from their family they do not want to get exposed because if they do they will be in trouble and there will be friction in the family and this will cause a lot of issue once exposed, gamblers will also in denial if you asked them if they are gambling to much,this is so they can defend themselves that they can still go to the gambling table.

you know what , you are such a good example . i read your story carefully and i figured out that you arent the one that has a problem but it was your best friend  . you can gamble responsibly but your verry humble because you have quit gambling for good  , not the total quit ofc  .

You're right there, dude. From the story, his friend's wife left him because of his gambling addiction which causes him to withdraw money from his wife's bank account. Since he's alone, there's a possibility that his situation would go worse. That's why, op should guide his friend. He's the one who is in a better condition so he should help his friend overcome his current situation.

Well, the best you can probably do is introduce a new hobby, one that would take up most of his time, so as to make him avoid gambling. Though without the will to actually stop and change, nothing much can be helped with it. Nonetheless, you can't really change addicts with irl experience, believe me. They'd need to actually WANT to change, and that''s a hard thing to do for an addict. Still, a big help though to those people who are on the verge of going addict, since really, the only thing that separates addicts form normal gamblers is probably fear. That is why we see many people ruin their lives because of playing gambling without having control. They don't know how to limit their money, but they still put more money into their balance to continue playing gambling. Once I am in those situations, it is not easy to reject gambling because the games were so attractive.

But then, I am fortunate that I can remember about something that makes me stop gambling for a while and do that thing. It really helps me realize that gambling was only the way to enjoy life and kill boredom. From that moment, I always use some money and limit my time in gambling because I don't want to become an addicting gambler.

I am sure many of them realize this,,, I mean all the guys I know who have a gambling problem feel this pressure and acknowledge it. They may not say it all of the time but when they do confide about it,,, you can feel they are full of guilt and shame. But people need to understand that this is why addictions are problematic.

Very true, this  has once happened to me.  On that faithful day I was with the mindset of gambling with the family fund in order to make some gains before proceed for the message but unfortunately lost all funds in the process. Though I regretted my actions and have learned my lessons.
