People should learn to detach themselves from material things so when they unexpectedly win/lose, they pretend as if nothing happened and move on. The less pressure could even help them know how to spend the money or manage the situation the right way. .

By nature, all human is connected to the material and to avoid a situation stated by the OP it depends on the individual maturity and health illnesses. However, gambling is not for people who cant control their emotions/buzz I don't why it hard for people to understand this.

You think the woman gambled (or took big betting risk)? I'm more concerned about people's betting safely/responsibly rather than taking big betting risk.
By the way, I have played lottery before and my risk was very little. Didn't really bother myself with the winners because I wasn't attached to bet... I guess it was because I bet with what I could afford to lose.

You know, some of these people do not die of a heart attack when they find out that they have won the Lottery. A lot of them die much later of a heart attack as a result of the money that they won.

Just imagine this scenario :

Over weight guy wins the lottery and suddenly he has the money to live a wild and exciting new life. He buys the Jet ski that he could not afford before and then goes out on the lake, playing with his new toy. (He is not fit enough for this physical exercise and get a heart attack as a result)

Another guy was living on the street, barely having enough money to get proper food. Now he wins the Lottery and start buying all this unhealthy food. (Eating Wagyu Steaks with sauces and fries etc.) He also buy himself a nice gaming computer or latest Playstation console and gets no exercise, so he become overweight and his heart fail as a result. 

I also see this as another scenario.

There are a lot of lottery winners in the past that made that win their demise. I watched the video of the infographic show about these winners that instead of being lucky, ended up getting unlucky as they won. Some of them got robbed, some of them didn't manage the money well and some ended up being dead. I don't believe in luck but I think there are times that they really ran out.

Sounds like the player had far too much stress going in in their lives and were overcome with a sudden ramping up of that stress as they realised they'd won.  Definitely a cautionary tale for anyone wanting to de-stress through gambling.

I don't think that stress would be real reason why people dies from heart attack when winning jackpots. It is more likely the excitement that comes when you win at anything especially with gambling. I've experience too much excitement when gambling even if I only win small rewards but in this case, hitting jackpots will surely gives  you too much joy and excitement knowing how it will change your life.
Anyway, I'm not saying that stress isn't a factor as it can really put yourself into risk when combined with a sudden change of feeling such as excitement but it's not the main reason of the death of jackpot winners.

That's it, its got to be much more than stress. Most of this people probably had some illness or something and probably what was at stake but then, i think its more about the shock. You had a lot on your head and all of a sudden, its all gone when you least expected it. Most people that die from gone shot isn't often about the instant pain they receive but then, the sudden shock that results from the fact that you've just been shot, i creates in you the mindset that puts you in that death spot. That is synonymous to the situation being talked about here, having all hope lost and instantly a jackpot. It pushes you to the edge and if you ain't strong enough, you fall off.

That I guess is the negative reaction of the human body who already had history on heart disease (some might be too mild that It goes unnoticed) who got overwhelmed with happiness, excitement, and surprise. At first, judging from the name of this thread I too thought it's about how people died immediately after winning the jackpot, which seemed suspicious, because it's a common misbelief, that people can simply have a heart attack due to shock/too surprising events/excitement. As you said, it can only happen to people, who already had a heart attack, or have a medical predisposition.

But look at the articles closely - these people died weeks after winning the lottery from a different cause: in a car crash, or old people getting scared of something, and some of the search results just concern the matter of inheritance right in such cases...

I recognize this thread was about the negative consequences of winning big in any form of gambling and I am sorry for talking straight earlier but we can't actually solve every gambler problem if each gambler is still naive of concept of gambling and how much he will win when place his bet which what I believe happened to the victims mentioned by the OP cause if they know all this it wont be strange to them when they actually won.

Every gambling involve in risk taking cause gambling is a game of chance, to answer your question the woman gambled but the best to way to be concern about people safety/responssibly in gambling is to educate them which is what some gambling site does to prevent addict.

No matter how much the rate is, I don't think that double taxation is fair. If they want to tax the winners, then they should not tax the ticket sales. Now what happens is that first they tax the lottery ticket sales. Then they impose tax on the winners. And finally, if the winner gifts a part of his reward to some of his close relatives or friends, then they have to pay tax on that amount as well. This is absolute lunacy and I hope the governments would look in to it. But with left-leaning governments coming up in many countries around the world, I don't have much hope.

I doubt that this could really happen to a person which is totally fit even if his mental state was in shock but his body would able to compensate and able to withstand that.
Usually people do end up on dying with this certain state of condition are to those who do have complicated sickness that  they had been carrying for a while

There are countries that tax the lottery before the draw? That's kind of news for me. I've always thought that all lotteries taxed it after so that they can profit more of it. Also, isn't it the best choice just to take everything and go? And half of that as tax? Can't really believe that. I mean, the concept of a lottery of winner takes all kinda loses its meaning when lotteries just tax almost half of their winnings in one go. I'm pretty sure the house always wins, but not to that extent.
