PH banned online cockfighting - Worst gambling-related cases recorded!

PH President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to stop e-sabong or online cockfighting operations.

Online E-Sabong (cockfighting) is a legit and regulated gambling industry here in the Philippines. So much hype that many people got hooked on it even those who are not really into that gambling since betting here is so easy and different from the actual betting in the live arena.

The government is supporting online cockfighting here because it's a big help to support the economy during and after the peak of the pandemic. According to statistics, the government is receiving around PHP 60,000,000 (around $1,149,700 USD) per month in a form of taxation and revenue.

But since the hype of online cockfighting here, there are lots of recorded negative effects of gambling up to this date. Some people sold their houses, cars, gadgets, and even a "kid". There are also cases of missing several people on which today, there's still no good progress and that was all related to these gambling.

This was all brought up to the President and even though he was supporting the online cockfighting industry here, he ask his constituents to conduct a survey on the effect of this on all people. The result is WORST that's why ASAP, the President ban right away the online cockfighting and disregard the revenue the government is getting.

For me, it shouldn't be stopped but should be more regulated strictly. I know there's a thing that can balance this but I don't know the specific term of it. Because of these irresponsible gamblers, the government's revenue got affected which should be a big help now that our country is just slowly rising after years of dealing with the pandemic.

I understand that they bring income to the State but in the end it is an industry that takes resources without producing anything, at most simple entertainment.
In this case there Is also an issue related gambling addiction... Well It was a good choice but I think a better information should always be provided because this time Is with this game the next time It could be another one

This online cockfighting gives access to everyone to gamble especially those who are on the lower income range, since they are the real target here and seriously even a minor can have a bet on this one and its really addicting. Though there’s no final resolution yet with regards to this one but hopefully the government will start to regulate this, and banned online cockfighting as much as possible. When I watch how low-ranking fighters in the UFC (and therefore having ridiculous incomes) crawl in blood and beat each other with their last strength, I have much stronger emotions about the unethical nature of what is happening. But for some reason, no one forbids such competitions.  
Regarding cockfighting, I can say that I support a ban on it in those countries where it was not a tradition - you should not start doing something that is outdated, but still, in countries where it is widespread and popular, the ban will only lead to the emergence of a black economy, the industry itself will not disappear.
As for "well-intentioned" bans with the idea that the government knows better how stupid irresponsible people should spend their money and spend their leisure time, I am strongly against it. I don't need morons-officials to decide for me what I can do and what not.

It's all about free will and choice. Those people that didn't end up good have chosen to gamble and they shouldn't blame anyone for it. They are all accountable for their actions.

Knowingly that this gambling type had been existing through ages and now that we are on a digital era then its no surprise that betting would made possible as easy as this but the government had seen the

possible effect specially that everybody could really possibly be able to make out bets on their mobile phone which could really give out higher chance of addiction which is something that government

If that's the choice of the people then the government should do it as it's the citizens of that country whose lives will be affected, it's more of a political move rather than an economic one. For sure they will find ways to get revenue to offset this loss.

In PH's case, they should look into this gamefowl industry offline as there is still too much money involved in this and the government could get more if this could be studied. ATM, only the owners of the cockpit arena are benefitting from this industry.

For me, no. Online cockfighting is just one way to bet and there are a lot of options out there. Illegal online cockfighting will flourish on this move by the government so people who love to bet online will just go to this option.

I agree with this policy because cockfighting looks very inhuman to me. Animals like chickens don't have minds, so animals compete without rules, and many dies (very different from the fight that humans do). As a business then having limitation for someone who would have maximized  amount betting which is impossible for these places to give out such limits considering its a business then its impossible.

Corruption is what brought down e-sabong there are corrupt players, corrupt operators, and corrupt government officials, you combined it all, and it's a tragedy, these missing people will be missing forever if no one among those corrupt involves talks or there are witnesses willing to testify.

It should really be stopped for now abducting is still ongoing and there are many crimes involving e-sabong but I doubt if this will be permanently stopped, it's a big source of funds for corrupt people and the government is generating badly needed funds, they just want to cool things before they operate again.

Yes, simple as that. That's why it become a trendy gambling thing here in the Philippines. For as low as $2, they can start placing bets. I also play that game but not that addictive since it's not my comfort zone. But honestly, I already lose big playing online sabong (what we called here).

Regarding the ban, it's just online gambling but the usual and common way of betting directly at the cockpit arena is not prohibited and never it will be as it's already running for long here. However, since most people here found it hard and technical playing directly at the arena, only those who are knowledgeable in that sports are the always people there. It's about time honestly. According to Duterte, P640 million in taxes a month is not worth the social damage e-sabong has been causing. In part it is true, since I know a few people personally whom are into the said cockfighting craze, and are already problematic gamblers since it has reached the point wherein they will pawn important heirloom items with some serious sentimental value just to continue betting. Heck, event those people below the poverty line are betting on cockfighting games like hell, as if they can win every single bout.

Are you sure about this figure? The amount I always encounter in the news is ₱640,000,000 (₱640 million). That's why it was very hard for the current administration to put a stop to it because the revenue is that huge. If it was only ₱60,000,000 (₱60 million) a month, it would have been a lot easier for the president himself to just order its closure.

Although I myself was also an online cockfighting player, I am fully in support of the ban. Not all things are to be measured in monetary terms.
