After the wilderness of internationals, and Nations League football at that, we now return to regular service -- pick of this matchday is Barca - Bayern, quite some reunion for one or two people there

I have few ideas for this matchday so I am thinking of making early predictions with a clear head, and than make small changes if I see any important news.
It is going to be interesting to see what tactics are going to be used by players this time, but only big risks can get someone big returns.

Damn, international break over brings us to busy week!

I have gone for over 5.5 or over 6.5 goals with each game staking 1 point to them and just 2 points to a game so I am persisting in my way to either climb the leaderboard through these type of results or be rock bottom and don't give a damn as this season I am playing with my all or nothing strategy, last year I came up 5th here or 6th don't remember in Pot B and got quite ahead in Pot A  yet in this season I want it all with a super high risk of getting absolutely nothing from such game.

Should be a good strategy to get something, I mean this is league phase, its where the goals are supposed to be. Then once you get to playoff and KO, there is where safety will be priority, then the big goal festivals should be over.

I think I started somewhat well in Pot B last season but it all came crashing down pretty quick after some people were able to get huge rewards for their “all in” picks in some match weeks, I just kept chasing shadows from there on, I believe that’s the first issue that was addressed with the stake limitations for this season.

My approach for this season so far isn’t really what I’d settle for going forward, I’m rather just looking before I leap, I’ve not been able to find the best massive odds I can throw 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 stake on.

I also did well early. I still remember putting on Galatasaray who beat Manchester United. But the problem was I missed all the picks after that, so ended up it wasn't enough. So we played the same mistake.

There are some other interesting even odds to look at too, like Bayern vs Barcelona and Leipzig vs Liverpool both fixtures look like an easy call to make in some way.

Dinamo Zagreb have been looking like my goto as an upset for the week, especially with how close they were to pulling off an upset last game week against Monaco, Salzburg on the other hand have been awful in Europe, and lost their last league match 5-Nil to Sturm Graz.

Had them to win in last round, won't be touching them again. Salzburg has really been terrible lately though, agreed.
I think the only play left for me is to hunt extreme lows/highs on total goals scored. Hitting 4-5 odds ain't gonna cut it any longer.

Was tempted to put mine in early too, but I prefer to enjoy the weekend (looking forward) and then come back fresh. Need a leg up in both pots, to get something from this season. But like LFC_Bitcoin, as long as we get 3 points from Leipzig, I'm good. Would be nice to welcome Real Madrid with maximum points.

Perfectly fine and you know why it is interesting? As you said, you wondered why nobody asked before... I have been wondering since week 1.  This is how so many important things in society go wrong. You believe someone would have asked or brought up the issue before me, so why bother doing it yourself. But no!

And then next month we welcome Real, knowing we don't have to face the wrath of Bernabeu. There is something wrong with that, to me. This may not be about the competitiveness of the competition, but the spirit of club football. We lost something there.

Ooo just realized that I was reminded again about the Champion League, this time I haven't thought about it but I think it's better after the league is over to do the prediction.

Like they ever cared about the underdogs, all UEFA cares about is the bag, they don't care if the champions league is losing its value or not.

The sport is now all about money, soon we'll be having half time shows in finals as they do in the super bowls.

Teams with big depth win and this are the big teams because they have the luxury to own multiple players (academy players too) that they can use to rotate the squad to avoid injuries.

But too this might be blessing in disguise for some underdogs that takes their opportunity with both hands and outperforms the big boys to advance to further stages. Atleast Aston villa knows they won't be meeting Bayern anytime soon.

Perhaps, it would then make more sense if we look at it from a perspective of every match almost being equally important because you don't get another chance, I think that bolster preparation more, In the previous group stages not both legs of those biggest clashes ends up being a most win for all teams when there are small teams that usually ends up taking the fall.

I love the need to get revenge and all, but I also love the fact that we don't exhaust big ties in the earliest stages, just a glimpse but many big matches for preliminary sound exciting imo, for a group stage, I prefer to watch Liverpool, and Bayern Munich both play Man City in a one match than affair than 2 of the 3 team engage in a H/A. H/A are pretty much interesting in the knockout stages (the "away goal" should return to help spice it up even more), not so much in the group stages, I think.

I'll probably be nice enough to remind everyone on Tuesday, and don't worry. A lot more people on 10 points or thereabouts. That's easy to gain in a good round.

It will always be important to the fans of the teams they support, I would think. As explained above post, if you make it to the UCL proper, you should get to host and visit your opponent. This now only happens from the KO stage onwards -- if you make it there. The league phase whittles down your chances to reach that stage if you didn't do well in the league (whereas in the old group stage you're guaranteed this).

That's the whole thing. Every aspect of the new format, to me, diminishes value for the supporter. From more games, to fewer chances to progress, to higher likelihoods of dead rubbers for the top teams.

Bayern Munich fans must be rolling on the floor wishing there was any chance of hosting Aston Villa at Allianz Arena to take revenge; this is the kind of pain this format gives, you can literally get beaten by an underdog away from home on your bad day and that's the end, no revenge, just lose and move on to the next opponent..

That wasn't enough; we still have more games in the new World Club Cup tournament next year; it used to be only for champions from each continent, with a good chance of a CL winner winning it to maintain the standard; now, with the new format, teams like Arsenal could be eligible and win it without winning the CL.

Not pursuing the high multiplier option, for me this is unrealistic and probably a faux pas, so difficult to determine where the high multipliers are.

Hahah, pot B was extra fun to do this time. I'm 36th overall, sitting on 3.60 points, literally got nothing to lose. It was only a matter of 'let's find 5+ odds that don't seem entirely crazy'.

There is one club I'm eyeing for a 0-0 draw, let's see how close I'll get with it. Everything in Pot B is a bonus for me now.

I don’t like the new format but nothing we can do abut it now sadly. For me personally I see it as, let’s just get to the last 16 and take care of business. That’s when the real competition starts.

Maybe I will stop moaning about the new league stage format if LFC are lifting the trophy at The Allianz Arena on 31/5/25.
