When Ronaldo missed the penalty and started crying it was really an emotional moment to see a 39 years old man cry in such situation and am just glad they made progress at last if not had it been they were eliminated by Slovenia all the blame would have been channeled to Cristiano Ronaldo for missing that penalty. Portugal should thank their goal keeper because he was in his best performance last night.

Already seeing the result, Turkey held on for a 2-1 win - Demiral was the scorer for Turkey's second goal while Austria towards the end tried to press Turkey's attack and defended well despite the fatigue of its players.

Austria's previous win over the Netherlands would have been tipped to qualify but they are now down to Turkey as the qualifying team to meet the Netherlands, it was an interesting match with all 3 goals rather than the one goal that bored us. Lol

There was nearly a 4 goal just before the end, it was extremely close. The header from Baumgartner was well saved by Günok. The ball was so close to/in the goal, a last second move like that makes him a winner. Turkey are now through to the next round and have to play against a very strong Dutch team. I would bet on Holland in this game, they are currently playing very good football and Gakpo has already scored 3 goals in 4 games, he has a strong streak. This match was full of emotion and very tight. Yes, you could say winning the penalty shootout was luck, but if you look closely, it wasn't just luck, but thanks to Diogo Costa's epic performance. This between Slovenia and Portugal, Slovenia were actually up to something else that I did not understand, it is not that they played so exceptional. But they were persistent. Penalty miss by Ronaldo and Pepe's mistake would have sent Portugal home but Diago Costa said no and saved the whole country.

I have not seen a match that the goalkeeper was so determine to win the game for their nation as the match between Portugal and Slovenia. Without Diago Costa, Portugal campaign would had ended on a very sad note but still I am not convinced with Portugal campaign this competition. Ronaldo has not scored since the tournament started and that is unlike him, Portugal are not very convincing and I am beginning to feel that their time is the competition is about to end. They got lucky in the last knockout game but maybe next time they would not be that lucky. If I had to talk about the match in the last 16 rounds. It was a match that I was excited about every second of it. I haven't seen our national team play so focused and clear lately. We knew that Austria was not an easy team, they came first despite which teams were in the group they were leading, and it was not a coincidence that it was because they played well.

The player of the match was Merih. Even though he was a defender, he scored two goals and was selected as the player of the match. He had a very good match. Something I noted though but paid less attention to it, which ever way it’s spelt, it still sounds Turkey and depending on how it’s used, we would know which one is being referred. However, Türkiye seems cool and it just needs some getting used to.

Australia vs Türkiye today wasn’t an enthusiastic watch for me, it was a carefree watch for me although, Türkiye played well and the win was well deserved, leading right into the half time and scoring yet another goal in the second half before Australia got a chance. The bookies underestimated Turkey and gave them a high odd, I almost bet on Turkey because I have this confidence in them that they will qualify to the quarter finals because of their game tactics and commitment. When Turkey took the lead, I was expecting Austria to equalize but instead Turkey scored their second goal, that was when I knew that there is no hope for Austria.

Austria performance has being brilliant since the beginning of this tournament but they were unable to equalize the last goal which sent them home from the competition. I don't think Turkey will survive the next round.
