That's the beauty of this ending. Argentina didn't just lose the title - they were humiliated both in sporting terms (the first team to fail to score a shot on target in 90 minutes in a World Cup final) and in reputational ruin. Now the whole world is talking about what a disgraceful team this is, how much FIFA (Fixed It For Argentina) favored them. If this tournament had been less shameful, and Argentina had simply lost their title (perhaps without even reaching the final), then past sins would have been forgotten and they would have remained in memory as normal winners of 2022, but now all the sins and help from the referee are remembered and Argentina has lost respect for the long term.
In the end teh behavior or Argentinian is absolutely unethical....

But let me tell you something. I don't know why you guys are still stuck with a words of rigged, referee favored or blah blah. I don't know why..... Argentina all matches was finished in fair way like in all matches referee do fair decision but all you guys are just denying the fact and pop one word referee favored. Does it is because of hate or something else. Except only one match there is nothing strange like against Egypt only one decision was been the victim of criticism despite it's a football and sometimes it's happened. But saying that Argentina just rigged the world cup or Messi is FIFA boy or blah blah is totally an unethical words......

On one single decision you are just denying the entire contribution of Messi. Come on bro just look up the all matches. You will see nothing... So I will say one more words. Be honest Does all goal/assist or even big rating of Messi was happen because of reference.... Roll Eyes

Are you blind? When someone (Balogun) gets a straight red for this foul, and Messi doesn't even get a yellow, what else can we talk about?
Messi is the princess of FIFA, only fools could deny it. Believe me, I'm cynical, and I made a decent amount of money at this World Cup betting on Argentina, because I knew they'd get help and were a safe bets.
I understand pointlesness arguing with people who do understand how a tiny house edge destroys gamblers, but they don't understand how a small (and sometimes large) favoritism in Argentina's favor gives them a huge advantage over their opponents. But that's irrelevant already – this World Cup has flushed Argentina's legacy down the drain, and the whole world saw how pathetic they are, even with FIFA's support.
By the way, yes, they had no class when they won the World Cup (remember the actions of their idiot goalkeeper and the racist chants), and when they lost, they didn't show any class either. I'm glad they showed their true colors, hehe.

Incidentally, I'm not sure that if I were a referee at the World Cup, I would be able to maintain objectivity in all controversial situations. Of course, I would try to referee as fairly and objectively as possible, but I'm not sure I would be completely flawless. After all, the psychological pressure on referees from fans and the press is colossal! 🙆

Fans often behave completely inappropriately, and it's very difficult for a football referee in such a situation.

Both referees and FIFA bureaucrats understand that modern football is not only a sport but also a business show. At the ancient Greek Olympics, champions were awarded only olive wreaths, while modern football is all about advertising, television broadcasts, and multi-million dollar contracts for football players.

At the same time, I think that even if there were isolated instances of biased refereeing, they still didn't spoil the football festival. At least not for me.💁

Spain was definitely a team that deserved this trophy and the performance they gave on the field was like a team that won a trophy. If this match had been a draw and Argentina had won at the last minute, I would have been very disappointed because Spain played very well and controlled the whole match. Argentina's goal might have been to draw this match, but Argentina completely ruined their plan. It was known that it would be ruined because, if a team makes 10 attacks, then from that point, 1 attack will definitely be successful. If Argentina had not only focused on their defense but also focused on their attack, then the result might have been a little different.

There are rumors circulating that Argentina was forced to lose the match against Spain due to a political issue. Argentina is known for playing good football, but their final match was a total disaster. There is a clip circulating in which Messi tells his teammates to forget everything and play the match. I am not sure if these things are true, but I think anything could happen under the Trump Administration. They could change the entire game result if they want.

I am a Brazil fan, and I would not expect Argentina to win the World Cup. However, I do not like political influence in sports, which Trump did already in this World Cup and I was disappointed seeing this.

There were certainly many questionable decisions by the referees, but that alone wasn't what gave Argentina the victory. In the Egypt match, Egypt lost their focus and went from being 2-0 up to 3-2 down. England experienced a similar situation. Argentina never gave up. It was very difficult for their opponents to resist Argentina. It wouldn't be right to blame only the referees here.
Its also Egypt defence fault that they gave openings to Argentine to score goals in last few minutes of the game. But its also a reality that referee gave few controversial decisions in that match that helped Argentina winning the game. In final we saw good attack from Spain and they won because Argentina never attacked. I don't know what happened with Argentina in the final that they never challenged Spain defence even once. May be its first time in final that a team has zero shorts on target.
Although the referee's decisions in the Egypt match were controversial, I don't think those decisions were against the rules. The referee had to make some decision there and it would go against one team. If you research the foul rules, you will know the reasons behind the referee's decisions. Then you can judge with knowledge how the referee's decisions were, now many people are judging the decisions with emotions.

However, it is not possible to deny Argentina's performance, Argentina won the matches on their own merits. The three goals against Egypt were not awarded by the referee or the FIFA president, and the referee did not award a goal against England. We have seen controversial decisions in other matches in this World Cup, but there is no talk about them. Actually, the controversy is about the referee's decision? Or about Argentina?

There is some noise on social media that something happened in the Argentina dressing room before the final match, which affected the performance on the field. No one is sure what happened, or if anything happened at all. There has been no official announcement yet. But such an embarrassing defeat in the final match may lead Lionel Scaloni to resign as Argentina coach.

I do agree with the leniency by referees toward Argentina's players when it comes to the fouls called against them, while the same referee would present a card for much lesser fouls to their opponents. But that does not mean that they were actually helped by FIFA to reach the final. Argentina played some incredible matches and Messi took them to the final, but Spain was good enough to stop any attacks from Argentina in the final.

Like I mentioned earlier, it is not about FIFA's support but individual referees. Argentina was getting away with too many fouls earlier in the tournament. Especially Leandro Paredes and Enzo Fernández were getting away with too many fouls, and the double yellow card for Enzo Fernández in the final changed the match, otherwise, they would have dragged Spain into a penalty shootout.

Nobody is blind in this Forum so don't make it look like is something new when someone start thinking differently from how you see things. For me this Messi challenge and that of Balogun should not be compared at all, that of Messi wasn't as harsh as that of the USA striker but many people still see Messi's challenge as the type that deserves a red card, I can't say much on the Messi challenge but yet again if you hate Messi you say it not to say Messi is the princess of FIFA. When I started reading your post all I saw is hate written all over your post which is not cool to me but yet again every have their own say in that tackle.

Why would Argentina be forced to lose the final match? And what political issues are those? Argentina didn't play against strong adversaries since the beginning of the championship, what made their way towards further stages of the competition easier. The biggest surprise was their victory against England, what showed will sometimes can overcome skills. But after all, it wasn't enough to win the final game against Spain.

Spain was the favorite for the finals, and Argentina did what they could do to win, but it wasn't enough. Messi was successfully neutralized on the field by Spanish players, and then Argentina was doomed. The best opportunity they had was in the end with Messi perfectly crossing the ball to Simeone, who missed an obvious goal. If Messi could be in two places at same time, then the penalties dispute could have been a real possibility...

Ahahahaha, I don't even understand how you can write this seriously and not feel like you're lying to yourself!
Ahahahaha, "Yes, he shot him 10 times, but the victim didn't die from the gunshots but from blood loss"  Grin

Like I mentioned earlier, it is not about FIFA's support but individual referees. Argentina was getting away with too many fouls earlier in the tournament.

Yes, it was just a coincidence that all the referees turned out to be Argentina fans, completely by chance, I get it!  Grin

This isn't 1920. You can check the video and read the rules anytime – that kind of tackle is illegal, and on the strangest day, it's a yellow card (on a normal day, it's a straight red). Messi didn't get any card at all. But since you're a fanboy, you'll embarrass yourself by defending the most shameful decisions.
And yes, Messi is the princess of FIFA  Wink

Argentina is known for playing good football, but their final match was a total disaster. There is a clip circulating in which Messi tells his teammates to forget everything and play the match. I am not sure if these things are true, but I think anything could happen under the Trump Administration. They could change the entire game result if they want.

I am a Brazil fan, and I would not expect Argentina to win the World Cup. However, I do not like political influence in sports, which Trump did already in this World Cup and I was disappointed seeing this.

Living here in Argentina, I can tell you that local media and fans are discussing all sorts of theories because the body language of the squad coming out of the changing room felt so unusual compared to their usual energy. People also pointed to Scaloni's post match press conference, where he seemed noticeably off and hesitant with his answers.

There are plenty of local rumors circulating about external pressures or internal issues surrounding AFA, but nothing has been proven or confirmed. While it's always tricky to separate post match emotion from reality in football, the intense speculation locally shows just how shocked everyone was by the performance. We'll just have to wait and see if any concrete details ever surface.

This is easier said though but I still did not think that even with the full squad of Argentina can they be able to stop the pressure they were getting from Spain in that match. The match was one sided and goal was going to come out from that match which would be a Spain goal because they’ve been the one pressing throughout the game. The Argentina team were obviously praying for the match to reach the penalty shootout only if they were able to contain the pressure from Spain which they were not able to. So either ways, Spain wouldn’t want the game to reach the finals because they’ve result will be based on luck and not based on individual performance by each team in that game. If Argentina reached the penalty shootout, they may have been lucky to get away with the win but their task was to stop Spain from scoring which they were not able to do so. The better team won and that is the Spanish team.

Ahahahaha, I don't even understand how you can write this seriously and not feel like you're lying to yourself!
Ahahahaha, "Yes, he shot him 10 times, but the victim didn't die from the gunshots but from blood loss"  Grin
I understand that you are really upset about the entire situation and you certainly think that the entire event was fixed for Argentina to reach the finals. I do not have the same opinion as you. It is impossible to fix an event like the World Cup and in this day and age, if there were anything like that, it will become public knowledge in no time. For every match there will be five officials from different countries on the field and four officials for VAR.

Like I mentioned earlier, it is not about FIFA's support but individual referees. Argentina was getting away with too many fouls earlier in the tournament.
Yes, it was just a coincidence that all the referees turned out to be Argentina fans, completely by chance, I get it!  Grin
Like I mentioned earlier, it is impossible to fix a match like the World Cup where all the officials are from different countries. Let's take the officials that controlled the final as an example. The head Referee and his assistants were from Slovenia, the fourth official and reserve assistant were from Jordan, the lead VAR was from Germany, the assistant VAR was from Poland, and the offside and support VARs were from Italy. I do logically think that it is impossible to orchestrate a conspiracy of that scale with nine different officials from different countries monitoring every single move. You might have a different opinion but that does not necessarily be true.

Edit:
Like I mentioned earlier, it is not about FIFA's support but individual referees. Argentina was getting away with too many fouls earlier in the tournament. Especially Leandro Paredes and Enzo Fernández were getting away with too many fouls, and the double yellow card for Enzo Fernández in the final changed the match, otherwise, they would have dragged Spain into a penalty shootout.

There is no question about the pressure from Spain. Argentina were able to hold down Spain without giving any free space until the 93rd minute, when Enzo Fernández was sent off. Even then, until the second half of extra time, Spain were unable to score.

Argentina played the same game against France in 2022. They were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time and 3-3 at the end of extra time, but they eventually won the penalty shootout.

Yes, you are right. It is true that the best team won the match. Spain performed much stronger than Argentina. Argentina played defense throughout the match and they really wanted the match to go to penalty shootout. Because Argentina knew very well that they had to use all their strength to defend themselves from Spain's attack. Which they did throughout the match. If the match had gone to penalty shootout‌. Argentina would have won the 2026 World Cup like in the 2022 World Cup. Argentina has always performed well but they could not withstand the four stars in the final. Argentina was not able to counter Spain's triangle attack. I think the best team won the 2026 World Cup.

In truth, there are certain players and nations that would be out of the World Cup and the cup would seem uninteresting. These are players that FIFA leverage on to make a great deal of money. Messi is obviously one of team, take him off the pitch and Argentina games would be so uninteresting to watch. No one would want to watch them play without Messi, FIFA knows this and they seek to preserve this as well as his legacy in the game. FIFA clearly turns a blind eye to the many fouls he commits and gives him preferential treatment on appeals for his team.

If FIFA had allowed Argentina to win the 2026 world cup through the normal rigging we have been seeing, it would have been a serious problem for FIFA and the world will never want to accept it. We all saw how many fouls Messi had made any the referees on different occasions never awarded him a red or yellow card. That was the favoritism fans have been complaining about.

It was too late for me before I realized what was happening. I started losing money at the beginning of the world cup untill I noticed that I don't have to bet based on the analysis we assume is going to be the outcome of the matches.
I started making money later when I knew that most of the matches look like script on each stages of the world cup.

I agree that it was a ridiculous red card. It was unnecessary because the match was already going into extra time and there was no critical situation. Enzo will be the player who will be most upset today. And he should be, because Argentina, with only ten players, can't show any presence against Spain. Spain, on the other hand, is having a comfortable extra time. They scored a goal and are now trying to score a second.

No he was the player who was least upset. Nobody can tell me that a player who destroys the dream of his teammates in such a dumb way is suffering from it. No, I don't believe that's true. Enzo Fernandez knew what he was doing, you could exactly see it in his eyes, he knew he would get yellow for his first action and he knew he would get sent off for that second tackle, which was unnecessary to say the very least. I think that players should be severely punished for red cards when the actions leading to the red card belong to a certain category. Stupidity and recklessness towards his own players. I have no clue how someone can be upset as you say when you consider how he managed to get that red card.

Roll Eyes

By the way, yes, they had no class when they won the World Cup (remember the actions of their idiot goalkeeper and the racist chants), and when they lost, they didn't show any class either. I'm glad they showed their true colors, hehe.

You are just speaking from a point of hate, there’s been inconsistencies with enforcing some of the rules in this tournament but it seems like most of y’all only see it when it concerns Argentina and Messi.

Tell me is it FIFA that arranged the teams to qualify the way they did, is it FIFA that made other teams lose their matches or draw to appear how they were in the knockout stages? How many times did you see players covering their mouths and how many times were they punished? Did you see the foul Michael Olise committed on Rodri why wasn’t any card given?…

To round it all, the MVP of the tournament was given to Rodri … how? Rodri isn’t even the best Spanish player in this World Cup, there are about 8 Spanish players who were outstanding whereas Messi single handedly carried Argentina to the finals with stats and impact.
Spain were able to win as a collective, there was no single individual outstanding more than the other, everybody did their bid but you won’t see that as Robbery because you’re blinded by your hate.

I like Messi, I won't say that he is a bad player or that he is an aggressive player. He certainly plays very well and has a lot of reputation, but it is true that FIFA has given Argentina a lot of support in this World Cup. The reason for this may be that teams like Brazil and Portugal were eliminated from the World Cup early on, and Argentina, among the most highlighted teams, was playing somewhat well, so FIFA deliberately took Argentina to the final. Otherwise, FIFA would have had to lose a lot of money because the number of people who went to the stadium to watch the game and the price at which they were able to sell tickets because Argentina played in the final, they would not have been able to sell this number of tickets and at such a price if Argentina was not eligible for the final. This was a policy of FIFA and since the final match was the last match, FIFA did not support Argentina in any way. And that is why Spain was able to win there.

People thought it was a joke when Spain completely dominated France and silenced Mbappe. Argentina were simply outclassed, thanks to Spain's total control of the midfield. Argentina's dark side was exposed. They all looked like they had not gone to play football but just wrestling around, intimidating the opponents, intimidating the match officials, among other things.

Those other theories are just there to water down Spain's magnificent efforts. We have a lot of cleaning to do with FIFA if we are to bring back the beautiful tournament to life.

It’s called mind game. What happened to Egypt was not entirely as a result of their actions but also as a result of the referee’s unbalanced approach towards officiating the game. Egypt seem perfectly doing well until they started to have the feeling they are being cheated and not treated justly, then instead of them to just fire on and keep the momentum, they started to feel undermined and overpowered, the team reduced its performance and the Argentina guys immediately took advantage of it, I was also scared of the same effect on Spain but the referee was so focused on professionalism and did not allow any team to feel more important while another feel less important and more pressured.
