Since you have mentioned in-game items and skins - I think this is 100% gambling, and I am 100% sure they did not learn that from parents. I will never believe, that after they saw adults play poker at home, or saw someone play slots on a mobile or other device, they have started gambling via opening in-game cases. As you have also mentioned stealing from parents, I had also classmates who stole some small money, to spend them on playing games on video game clubs. But, I only read on the internet that kids were stealing from parents to spend on gambling. There are times where trying to cover up some things from your children by exaggerating things will make them more curious because they weren't satisfied with the answers and that might lead them into seeking advise from their peers. We all know how children could be curious sometimes, and if they probably get a convinced by their peer they might be tempted to give it a try, and that could lead to addiction as they are not mature enough to make good financial and responsible decisions.  Though sometimes its best to let them have a try and see the impact and dangers that lies within but gambling is not recommended for children below 18 so try as much as possible to educate your children about the dangers.

As a father, my vision on situation is following: I would better explain, teach or show how good money are earned, but leave gambling for entertainment purposes only. I see no point from hiding gambling, as the kid will learn about it anyway. For me it is better that my kid dont gamble secretly somewhere outside the house, someone in suspicious places and etc. But instead know what it is and understand why I gamble sometimes (for fun). I am teaching my kid in a way, that knowledge is his best weapon, best key to success. With knowledge everything can be achieved. With knowledge my kid could earn good money. But gambling, that is just for fun, for relaxation, an activity to do with friends and chill. My parenting style is simple. Have good grades, understands all school materials, homework is done, have no extra sports activities (it was kids choice to go to gymnastics twice a week and visit drawing class) - free do do whatever want. while digitalization has advantage, it has disadvantage as well.  kids love to imitate what happens in his around, but your point make a lot of sense. nowadays gambling advertisements spreading almost everywhere, and it's hard to bypass. for instance you're watching sports, and gambling advertisements almost every where so no way to avoid it.  Fact that gambling is so freaking addictive, maybe it shouldn't be advertised.
