The ideal thing is to prioritize your Bitcoin investment and emergency fund, but you shouldn't give your emergency fund more priority than your portfolio. Building emergency fund alongside buying Bitcoin is good but shouldn't make you unnecessarily wimpy in your Bitcoin investment. There should be no rush to stack up cash, you can still build your emergency fund over time and it might take a year or more to get it at 3 months worth of expenses, so there's no need rushing it at the expense of your Bitcoin investment. It should be built gradually, the investor can decide to put 40% of discretionary income into Bitcoin, 40% into building emergency fund and 20% as discretionary consumption.
I believe your first priority should always be your an emergency fund because life is unpredictable and anything can happen at any time. and also the crypto market is the most unpredictable in the world,I still remember the 10 october crash thats why i think once you have enough savings to cover unexpected expenses then you can focus on building your Bitcoin portfolio without worrying about selling it at loss.
I will urge you to be more professional and specific on your terminology , BTC is not the same as crypto when you are making your point always try as much as you can to be specific , this is a Bitcoin investment thread, discussing about crypto should be here , because their are many newbies here you will course alot of distraction to there understanding, so when next you are making your point make your reference on Bitcoin for more understanding of others, so we don't discuss crypto here but BTC.

In my opinion, even investors who lack the discipline to hold Bitcoin for an extended period of time should be able to understand why emergency funds should be set aside not only for savings but also to protect your Bitcoin portfolio in the future. In the event that an emergency fund breaks while you are making purchases, it is crucial to remember that, just as you organize your discretionary income on a weekly or monthly basis, don't forget to organize your emergency fund as well.It doesn't really mean that just because you organized your emergency fund last week or last month, it doesn't mean that you didn't save regularly.

It is crucial to be building up your savings as much as you are purchasing Bitcoin because you never know what kind of emergency might arise and require a large sum of money. Therefore, it is always a good idea to plan ahead for your investments so that you can withstand any situations like that and not be tempted to sell when it's not due.

Discretionary income is completely important for every long term investor in to Bitcoin, but people who cannot hold Bitcoin for a long time are not investors they are traders and they do not need to understand why emergency funds should be set aside to protect their Bitcoin investment because they do not need emergency funds. Life is unpredictable and people do not know the emergency they will face in the future. As someone new to Bitcoin and want to kick start his Bitcoin investment and you have not build up your emergency funds, it is important for you to build up your funds and accumulate your Bitcoin at the same time, this will enable you to solve any emergency that may arise as you accumulating Bitcoin consistently.

Your comment is very confusing. I did not understand clearly what you meant even after reading it several times. However, it seems that you are talking about an emergency fund. It is never a good decision for a person to buy something with his emergency fund. Emergency fund should be used at a time when you face a financial crisis. Using emergency fund during small financial crises does not seem to me to be a good decision. If emergency fund is used during these small financial crises, many times that amount of money is not kept in the emergency fund. Therefore, creating a reserve fund for such emergencies seems to me to be the best decision.

Perhaps, you should be specific on the word "something" because something comprise of so many things which includes relevant ones and irrelevant ones also so you can not just say it is a bad decision to use emergency funds to buy something that doesn't make any sense. However, we can use our emergency funds to during the Dip if need be but we should endeavor to replace the emergency funds back since we can can't predict when emergency will come and it's gravity and also we can use our emergency funds to sort out Issues if need also be.
You don't use your emergency funds to buy bitcoin any one that uses their emergency funds is purchase BTC is gambling with their investment, if you want to buy more bitcoin during when their is dip and you don't have reserve funds you can simply just use your discretionary income, discretionary income is what they use to buy bitcoin and not your emergency funds, your emergency funds should be used when there is a real emergency funds situation and not in buying BTC.

I don’t know where you guys are learning most of this stuffs from but to make it simple and clear to you, priority is placed on figuring out a discretionary income to use and accumulate bitcoin. What this means is that, if an investor receives his income or salary, what he should first prioritize is to sort out his basic needs after which the remaining money which is the discretionary income should be use to invest in bitcoin immediately. Brand new investors must not wait to have enough savings to cover unexpected expenses before they start building their bitcoin portfolio, what is important is that they should start investing in bitcoin once their discretionary income is ready. The emergency funds is important, but we must not wait until we have the emergency funds or save enough to cover unexpected expenses before we can start investing In bitcoin and build up our portfolio. You can start investing in bitcoin with the available discretionary income and along the line be building the emergency funds gradually while ongoingly investing in bitcoin. We can as well do it simultaneously by allocating a part of the discretionary income to bitcoin accumulation and other parts into building for emergency funds/reserve or back up funds and other discretionary consumption.

And for the record, using the vague term “crypto market” could be misleading newbies into investing in shitcoins because there are lots of crypto that are shitcoins and that’s why it’s better to be specific and straightforward by keeping the discussion with just bitcoin.

Although the emergency fund is not used to buy Bitcoin, it is used to protect Bitcoin. Basically, investors who know that they may need money at any time in the future, whether it is medical expenses or any other expenses, so that those who have already invested do not have to sell their investments midway, that is why investors prepare in advance and deposit a part of their discretionary income in advance as an emergency fund and this fund is used only when an unexpected financial need arises. However, sometimes this emergency fund can be used differently, such as the investor is continuing to invest continuously and while continuing the investment, the investor realizes that the market is coming down and if a large amount of Bitcoin can be purchased at that time, the possibility of future profits will increase, then the investor can purchase Bitcoin from the emergency fund and after purchasing it, he can quickly refill the emergency fund.

The mistake is usually underestimating knowledge, so when they make a mistake, they don't seek out the right people to use their experience and knowledge through their approach.

So, in my opinion the most common mistake nowadays is intentionally buying Bitcoin with emergency funds even though they seem to know the purpose of the emergency fund and how to buy Bitcoin. However, this is more of a downplaying of the risk which leads them to over-invest in Bitcoin purchases using emergency funds ultimately leading them to experience difficulties when the situation is unfavorable for those who use emergency funds to buy Bitcoin. An approach is essential when making a purchase, as it will give you more experience and knowledge about how to make a purchase, ensuring you don't end up making mistakes when using your funds to purchase Bitcoin.

This is a total mess and wrong investment practice my dear. It's wrong to advise that we can use our emergency funds to buy Bitcoin during the Dip.

What if emergency situations arises immediately we buy, how then do you handle the unexpected situation? You know we can't predict emergencies, so it's wrong to use your emergency funds for buying Bitcoin because you don't know when it will happen. Your emergency funds is strictly kept for emergency situations and we aren't advised to use it for buying Bitcoin.

You can buy from the Dip when it comes if you have extra funds for that, not your emergency funds.
Using an emergency fund to invest is like lending someone your money, and when you go broke, you have no other choice than to demand the money back from that person. You seriously demand your money back because, at that point, it is the only hope you have. It is impossible to use an emergency fund to invest in Bitcoin, and when you need money, you wouldn’t want to withdraw from your investment. Some people feel that investing with emergency funds is a smart move, believing their emergency can be solved whenever it occurs, but it doesn't work that way. Bitcoin investment should be done with discretionary funds, and emergency funds should be set aside for emergencies.

if i was to be that investor i would increase my emergency funds than the amount am accumulating my bitcoin investment if with my income i have just one healthy option of increment that can accommodate my income.
It is not ideal to prioritize emergency fund over bitcoin buys, you'll be busy stacking up cash while your bitcoin portfolio is experiencing very little growth. I don't really think that's a very good idea, rather give both bitcoin portfolio and emergency fund the same priority so that you grow them at the same pace instead of neglecting one over the other.
Go read the complete comment i made and don't just cut off a part just to make a confusing point off it. First i mentioned about The genesis to my first comment was buttressing on a situation of a regular income earner and an irregular income earner. You can't compare how the two investors would be able to prioritize and increase their bitcoin portfolio and emergency simultaneously. hence about my view for the irregular income investor who doesn't know when his next paycheck may arrived.

I am in my hypothesis trying to avoiding a condition an investor increases more of his bitcoin investment portfolio and left just a little for emergency funds (assuming he has one option of prioritizing an increase on just one over the other) due to how irregular the income comes which other times it can delay, and it happens that along the way an emergency situation bust out and due to how small his emergency funds is, it couldn't take complete care of the situation leading to the investor being self coerced to tamper into his bitcoin portfolio to add it to the emergency funds in order to be able to foot the emergency bill that came up. Literally you have interfered with your investment before initial plan time.  but assuming still that it was your emergency funds that got the improved figure in this case, you wouldn't have to tamper with your bitcoin portfolio because the emergency fund would have being enough to go through.

Am quoting myself in first comment to add the parts you omitted for clarity
Quote
In this stables the investors with a regular income has an advantage in organizing an increasing emergency funds at same time with increasing his DCA amount he is buying bitcoin on a weekly or monthly. But in the case of the investor with an irregular income, if i was to be that investor i would increase my emergency funds than the amount am accumulating my bitcoin investment if with my income i have just one healthy option of increment that can accommodate my income.

Yes, Using emergency fund  for ongoing investments is like shooting yourself in the foot.We can't predict when danger or bad times will come in life. And emergency funds are created to handle those difficult times efficiently.

In fact emergency fund is the protective shield of your main investment. As long as it is in your hands your long term investment will also be safe. Otherwise you will be forced to break that long term investment and withdraw the money. So if your goal is long term investment then under no circumstances should you spend emergency fund money there.

Ive been hearing about situations where someone buys a coin for a certain rate and not quite long after,  the said coin drops in value, or  someone sells his coin for a certain rate and then it appreciates just after.
What's your take on this? Given the period we're in is it buy time or sell time?
Well, that just shows that the market is unpredictable.

You can't time the market because it's very unpredictable. You might see it's price going up for a few hours then suddenly, it will go down. Just look at Bitcoin's price a few days ago when the Coinbase anomaly happened. It went down from I think around $68,000 to nearly $59,000 in just a span of a few minutes.

What's my take on what's happening right now? We're in a time where we need to wait for the market to correct before entering. We have been seeing the market going up for days already, and I don't see any reason for me to enter the market when the market is on the green. I mean we want to buy coins at a lower price, so it's better to just wait until the market corrects then that's the time for us to buy.
I agree with that approach. There’s no need to rush into the market just because prices have been rising for several days. Patience is part of trading, and sometimes the smartest move is to wait for a better entry rather than chase green candles. However, a correction isn’t guaranteed, so it’s important to watch market trends, manage risk, and stick to a clear strategy. Protecting your capital is just as important as making profits.

Using emergency funds to buy Bitcoin is a serious financial risk, but I think the deeper issue is overconfidence in the market. Some investors understand the purpose of emergency savings yet still convince themselves that an attractive dip is worth the risk. The problem is that nobody knows when an emergency will occur or how long the market will take to recover. That’s why financial discipline matters just as much as market knowledge. A good investment opportunity should never require you to sacrifice the financial security that allows you to hold your investment patiently. Bitcoin will have other opportunities, but protecting yourself from forced selling should always come first.

This mindset you are preaching here only works for a trader and I don't have anything against traders but I'm sure this thread is about investing in bitcoin and for an investor there is need to wait for a particular price before you can start buying unless you are buying the DIP and even then waiting for a DIP before buying is also wrong, as long as you already have your discretionary income you should be buying bitcoin regardless of the price.
It doesn't matter whether the price is high or whether the price dropped because the investment is long term to last more than a cycle at the very least with most running over 10 years and counting because as an investor you are not looking for quick profit or short term profit but instead your target is long term and when compared to long of a time the price change within 24 hours becomes insignificant and shouldn't be a factor in your deciding when to buy.

Being this thread or not, trading is not something we should should encourage, it just like you encouraging someone to gamble. When it comes to bitcoin, there is no two ways about it, it just to invest. Yes having a good return is not guaranteed but then why chase a quick profit. When it comes to trading a lot of people have lose so much to it and at the end they blame it on the volatility of Bitcoin.

I still find it so difficult how people still consider buying the Dip rather than using DCA to invest. For long do you want to wait, you can’t be delaying your investment because you waiting for a Dip. Buy with the available discretionary income, that just the best.

Perhaps, this your advise and explanations about not chasing market rise or green candles is not really needed here in this thread because this is basically and majorly a Bitcoin investment thread so I will advise you talk or explain more about how to invest and hold for long term than preaching trading here. And for your information, no matter how you wait for better entry there is no guarantee the entry will be 100 sure or certain so you are prone to making loss so don't confuse or distract newbie with this trading stuff.

There is a case when you can use your emergency fund/back up funds to buy Bitcoin, this case is when you have three months of your emergency funds/back up funds and you are a no-one, you can use one month of your emergency funds/back up funds to accumulate Bitcoin and build your emergency funds/back up funds at the same time you are accumulating Bitcoin, but using your emergency funds/back up funds to buy the dip when you are already out of no-one coiner zone is unwise you are setting yourself up to fail with your Bitcoin investment because emergency could happen when you have not replace your emergency funds and you will certainly depend on your Bitcoin to solve it.

The actual difference in between irregular and regular income is very important here. While building up and accumulating Bitcoin. One with a stable salary/income might find it easier to build up their emergency funds, but someone with an unstable income will need to put more on their emergency savings for a while.

Stopping to accumulate Bitcoin until everything is perfect is not the goal. But to avoid to invest in such a way that an unexpected expense might forces one to sell out. Your financial situation will determine your balance not a fix percentage for all.

I believe your first priority should always be your an emergency fund because life is unpredictable and anything can happen at any time. and also the crypto market is the most unpredictable in the world,I still remember the 10 october crash thats why i think once you have enough savings to cover unexpected expenses then you can focus on building your Bitcoin portfolio without worrying about selling it at loss.[l/b]

You are suggesting and/or advising that guys should firstly pay attention to building there emergency funds to a very considerable state before they can begin to buy Bitcoin? If you fail to start accumulate Bitcoin and then begin to build emergency funds first, then what are you guiding? Why not begin to buy Bitcoin immediately and as well also build your back up funds simultaneously. Isn't that better?

Emergency funds are important to be built, sure, but ignoring building your portfolio and allocating all your discretionary into building emergency funds first before starting to buy Bitcoin is a worng one. The proper thing to do is, if you figure out your discretionary income, you immediately begin to buy Bitcoin and also begin to build your back up funds alongside.

Having a few months of emergency funds can make an investor a little stronger than before. But that doesn't mean that a portion of that fund should be used to buy Bitcoin. Because you need to understand the purpose of an emergency fund first. An emergency fund is not about taking a chance or making a profit.

To give you an example, you might have created an emergency fund equal to 3 months of necessary expenses. Now, if you put the equivalent of 1 month in Bitcoin, you will actually have 2 months of emergency expenses. If your income stops next month or someone in your family needs medical treatment, you will have to deal with the situation from that reduced fund, otherwise you may be forced to sell. The most important thing is that just because the price of Bitcoin has fallen, there is no guarantee that it will increase quickly after you buy it. As a result, the value of the Bitcoin you bought may be even lower when the emergency arises. Then, instead of holding on to the investment, a situation may arise in which you sell it at a loss.

This is not a wise advice in my own opinion because by trying to set up your emergency funds before starting your Bitcoin accumulation, you will be wasting time you should be using to accumulate.

And as we all knows, before you can accumulate a good emergency funds that can withstand any challenges that comes, it might take up to a year, so that is a lot of time wasted, that is why jay juangee always advice newbies investors to accumulate and put down their emergency funds the same time, so that if emergency situation comes up that early stage of your accumulation, your Bitcoin investment will not be vulnerable or without any protection.

It’s so funny reading all these comments cos it now looks like it’s a chain of corrections with their own errors.
First, @Loyang was making a correction and made mention of “something” instead of “bitcoin” thereby making his comment sound vague cause what’s the something he’s referring to, it could be anything.
Then @Showlove you’re now advising folks to buy the dip with their emergency funds and that’s highly inappropriate, the backup fund which is flexible to be used to buy the dip is the reserve funds.
The emergency funds is meant for only emergency situations and nothing else., using it to buy bitcoin is only putting all your investments at a greater risk than before.
