A truly thrilling match for Sporting and their fans, Eduardo Quaresma's goal really set the stage for an explosive moment at the José Alvalade Stadium. Sporting were fortunate to have that late goal, otherwise they would have struggled in the title race. The decider will be in the next match, when the two teams meet. Sporting is at a disadvantage because they will be playing away, there will be a surprise there, whether it will be Benfica's night, or Sporting's.

With the league games coming to an end and just two games remaining, it's definitely a fight to a finish this time around in the league. Both Sporting CP and Benfica are leveled on 78 points and just 3 goals separating both teams. Sporting is just ahead with this goal difference, funny enough not teams face off in the next round of the league phase. A win for either team will prove a lot and will also determine the champions. This weekend will see what comes from both of these teams. If they play a draw then it will be taken fully to the final day of the league campaign.

AFAIK it's correct.

I think it's worth talking about the rules, since there's a chance they'll use the tie-breaker criterion hehehe

In a nutshell (and in english):

1 - If they finish with the same number of points, the first tie-breaker is head-to-head match, or h2h as you said

2 - then it's the goal difference of the matches played against each other, i.e. the number of goals scored - (minus) the number of goals conceded

3, 4 and 5 - Then it's goal difference throughout the competition, number of wins and finally goals scored.


6 - Finally, if all that isn't enough, the tie-breaker would be a match played on a neutral field to decide the champion hehehe

After another round, everything is still up for grabs for what could be a decisive round. Despite their difficulties, Sporting won their game, as did Benfica. Braga, on the other hand, could have lost third place with a draw. But there are still two games left, and some things can still happen.

Benfica and Sporting arrive at the penultimate round tied on points, and will play this game that will almost certainly decide the championship title.

@rdluffy has already made a good summary of what the tiebreaker criteria are, but I'll simplify what could happen further. Let's look at the various scenarios:

- Sporting won the first game against Benfica, 1-0. If Benfica wins 1-0 (or just 1 goal difference) as well, everything will depend on the last game. If both teams win the last game, for Benfica to win they have to score 4 more goals than Sporting in that last game. The same applies if there is a draw (no matter the number of goals).
- If Benfica wins 2-0 (or with a two-goal difference), they will be the champion, even if they lose the last game. Since in H2H, Benfica will have scored more goals.
- If Sporting wins, logically they are champions.

Sporting football team played very well in the last match and that team did 2 goals in the last match. That was one sided match because Gil Vicente team could do only 1 goal in this match. Correia was a person who did first goal of the match and he did this goal at 26 minutes of the match and that goal was at penalty. And we didn't see more goals in the first half but in the second half we saw two goals. Araújo was a person who did goal at 81 minutes of the match and Quaresma was a person who did end goal of the match. The stats of Sporting football team was brilliant because their shots were more in this match which were 16 and 3 shots were on target and possession percentage of that team was excellent in this match.

Yes when Sporting faced Gil Vicente ended with a score of 2-1. But you need to know that it was also the same score when Benfica faced Estoril which also ended with a score of 2-1. Both teams have performed very well for this season, so it is difficult to determine who will lift the trophy for this season. But because in the 33rd week Benfica will appear as the host, maybe they are slightly more favored to be able to win the match.

This is a very good round, I think the most complicated, at least in the pre-match, is Benfica vs Sporting. The rest is more of a clash of favoritism between the teams.

Yeah, today is really gonna be a deal day for both clubs. A win for either side will play a big role and will decide who will win the league. I can only imagine the feeling from both fans. As someone watching from afar, I must accord Rui Borges a round of applause for the fantastic job he's doing at Sporting Lisbon. He has done well to steady the ship since he took over from Joao Pereira. Under his management, Sporting Lisbon hasn't lose a league match, which is an extra boost going into today's game. They're on 5 matches winning streak and their last week's late winner against Gil Vincente tells you a lot about their character and how hungry they're for the trophy. We are no doubt going to have an exciting game today and I'm putting my money on Sporting to win or draw.

I wouldn't call Benfica favorite, they have only little advantage as game is played at their home. But now both teams are playing almost perfectly, they even have almost same number of goals scored and identical number of conceded goals. Right now it's advantage Sporting CP as they took the early lead in the 4th minute, although Benfica as of now has most parts of the ball possession but haven't yet threatened Sporting so far. Sporting had one chance and they took it and made it count. There's still more time for a lot to happen but for now, Sporting has all the advantage just as it was speculated and also from previous records in recent years. As the league is, the winner here will definitely win the league.
