Every successful person had a mentor

Let me share you a story, I had a mentor in school that graduated with a first class, he was in final year and I was in first year, I was motivated by the way he was doing his things and always advice me to do this and that and trust me, it didn't work for me. He graduated and I was left in school alone and the second year was 2 times bigger than what I did in my first year. This is why I said life doesn't have a manual.

Why it didn't work? there's something behind that.

He's not really a mentor if he only with you when you both are in the same school, a real mentor will support you no matter how far the distance is. This is why, finding a mentor is hard because people only care when they're in the same situation, but they will help you anymore when they're move to different place.

You do not need to have a mentor before you can become successful in life. There are many successful people in life that does jot have a mentor.

Some people only like after a role model and they may want to be like such people and work towards it.

But know that success is not about having a mentor or looking after someone as a role model. It is about how smart you are in achieving successes. Opportunity and exposure are also very important.

I think mentor or mentorship is only a modern thing. We even have internet now and plenty of info can be found here for free, so this eliminates more the need of a mentor. I think most mentors are not really successful on the field that they are teaching but they are only good at sales talk. They need to, because this is like their source of income/living. If there are more legit mentors, those must be free and the person is truly successful.

We might learn better here but there might still be no guarantee to be successful too. When you say role model, I think this is like an inspiration. We can have this as well for free but I think another purpose of mentor is there will be someone that will tap you in the back (encourage you).

I would like to discuss this here to understand how many people decide to take this step to find a mentor?

I asked myself this question because in almost every book or interview with successful people I come across a mention of them having, or even currently having a mentor who guides them, helps them develop, and perhaps points out mistakes that will not allow them to grow.

And I was interested in how many of you at some point decided that you needed a mentor, how difficult it was to find one and how did he help you? I suppose that few people use this, maybe even out of fear, because for example I don’t even know who it could be and how can I ask my future mentor about this if I manage to find such a person.

And maybe some of you have been a mentor for other people? Share your experience too, if it is not too much trouble for you.

Look at Mentor like a guide, ready for you to read and follow. When you get a driving license, you learn driving from a driving instructor, which is a mentor for you for that moment. This is just a basic example of how someone else's experience can significantly make it simple for you to acquire the same skill.
When I started my first job with my profession, I had a mentor who guided me through the job, taught me some secrets and helped me to get through the day.

At the moment I'm trying myself to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript and its frameworks myself and they consume lots of my free time. I do it as a side job when I finish my work and come home but I believe I would do much better if I had someone who would guide me through all of this.
I'm definitely not a successful. I'm not a definition of a successful person, the one which you probably mean (someone more likely a celebrity and very famous) but I think my post was still interesting for you.

Mentorship to me is a choice, and it's not necessarily a must something before the person can succeed, especially now that we can get all the information we need on the internet and build ourselves toward what we want, and that's it. 
 
Even with a life coach and mentoring, one can still become unsuccessful if they don't pay attention and develop themselves toward the part they want to succeed on.
 
A mentor is only there to guide someone, but how you succeed or fail is based on the effort the person put into their life and not just the information the mentor gave them.

You need anybody to become successful in life. Many people are out there; there was no mentor at that time, and they are now successful, so I think you, although some people have mentors,  in a situation where there is nobody to help you, you have to do it yourself. So mentor is just a choice. I feel like you can do research and understand what you want to do, but not until you have anybody around you. You can quickly search for everything you want to do on your phone, and you will find a solution to your problem. So sometimes mentoring is just like wasting your time.

And I was interested in how many of you at some point decided that you needed a mentor, how difficult it was to find one and how did he help you? A mentor will help some people, especially those that are not fast at learning something; those people need someone around them to be teaching them what they want to know all the time. People who have mentors. It helps them in many ways because you will learn physically, and I feel like you will understand it more than someone who learns online since their own is physically.

Having a mentor is very important in your journey to becoming successful, there are people you idolize that have taken some giant steps and these are people you constantly learn from...But saying every successful person had a mentor is inaccurate, not everyone has the same story, some became successful men and women just by working hard on themselves, they didn't have anyone to guide them and they didn't have anyone to look up to...I disagree with the context of the topic, everyone successful person out there didn't follow the same route to get to where they are.

I agree with you, not all successful people have mentors or those who have not been successful, this is not a must, because I think it is better for us to stand on our own feet to be successful even though sometimes we do need help from others but there is nothing wrong with us fighting on our own with the efforts made and utilizing as you said with the internet today which has indeed developed very well so that it can make it easier for us to find what we want.
However, it all depends on ourselves, because it is useless if we have a mentor but we ourselves cannot move forward better by only relying on a mentor, in my opinion it is not enough.

In addition, I think success is not measured by this and successful people do not all have mentors, I think there are indeed people who are successful but do not have mentors.

The truth is that, a lot of things are already changing and I don’t think the idea of mentorship by the op is exempted because we already live in a wicked world where people likely might want to see you grow but not more than them, as compared to previous times, when one’s mentor will have to go out of their way to see their mentees get the best possible results even better than theirs.

Another think worth saying is that, the paths to success are always different and eBay matters at the end is that, one achieves success and the definition of success also differs amongst individuals and as such, I think generalizing that every successful person had a mentor regardless of the benefit of mentorship, to me is some sort of hasty generalization as there are still possibilities that not all successful people had the benefit of mentorship, as they might have cracked the success code by themselves.

That is a great thing that you are trying to do though. I support that idea and I believe you are going to end up with something much better, I do not think that we are going to end up with a bad result if we work on ourselves. I have studied a lot on graphic AI, not the text prompt ones, but the AI that does images, like midjourney for example. I am of course a noob at it, but I learned a lot of stuff on it, and could make logos now. I am not great at that neither, but they are pretty decent, I could make a pretty decent logo, and then I learned a few ways to edit those stuff with photoshop as well.

This isn't a business or anything, I don't do it to make money, not yet at least, maybe in the distant future, because AI engineers could be sought after, but for the time being, I do it for fun. Working on yourself is very important.

That's why you don't need to be surprised to meet successful people who even came from very poor people, because maybe they used to be good at seeing opportunities and were motivated to become successful people and that's what made them become successful people as they expected. Because I believe that what makes you successful is not other people, but yourself.

I think that your environment plays a very important role, if you are surrounded by more successful people than you, then you will grow much faster, I have tested this on myself more than once and it works. The same applies to an environment with bad habits, people who do not strive for anything, just work at their jobs for a minimum salary and meet in the evenings to drink beer and discuss their bosses, in such an environment, growth is completely excluded.

As for the mentor, this is a good idea, and it can just be some person from your environment who earns more than you, everything can happen simply in the form of communication, that is, the mentor may not be present as formally as it seems at first glance. So I think that the most important thing is our environment.

My sincere contribution is that you do not need a mentor to be successful and it is not all that have mentors that are successful. As you read it that all successful people in books have mentors is the same way I read it, but my mine was with a few exceptions. There are naturally talented, focused and creative people, people like them do not need mentoring, they will just be facing life and conquering it because it's an in-built.

Fine, we all need the foundational education which starts from parents and elementary schools, if that is excluded, I am certain that mentoring is not always necessary, only those who seek it enjoy it.

Something must motivate us to turn successful in our life journeys. Maybe it could be the way someone said encouraging words, or seeing a grand person in your career. It's part of the external factors that trigger our inner self to accomplish task and also imitate the working pattern of mentors.

Generalizing this makes it wrong because this doesn't apply to everybody. There are people who prefer not to have icons or anyone to idolize, they believe in themselves and discovering their potentials without having a mentor. So not every successful persons had or have a mentor, you can use the word "most" but "every" isn't accurate.

Having a mentor is no different from a student who has a teacher at school who cannot graduate if he has nothing to learn and does not have enough grades to pass. The teacher participates in the achievement of a student if he/she is able to graduate.

But when it comes to success in life, in general terms, you got everything you want, which is something that was difficult to achieve, but many people became successful because of hard work, determination, and passion, even though no one was a mentor, but inspiration mostly from family is the reason why it was achieved.

I agree with you. For me, it tends to be easier to gain success when you have the resources to have a mentor or guide because the mentor will keep telling you all your mistakes that you can remove and make yourself almost perfect to become what you are willing to become.

When someone does something without having a proper mentor or guide, they tend to face more difficulties because they will have to do everything themselves, find their mistakes, rectify them, find a better way to do things that aren't working very well, and much more. So when you don't have a mentor but still manage to gain success, that success would make you feel more proud.

The trick is that a mentor could be someone who took the same road before you, and they could tell you the troubles they faced and how they overcame those troubles, so what was a trouble for them, could be a very simple thing for you because you would have the results in your hand easily and you would know how to overcome them without turning them into troubles.

However, we also need to remember that not every mentor has good intentions, sometimes mentors do not want their students to be better than them and that would cause a lot of trouble. Jealously is a nasty trait in humans and unfortunately there are way too many teachers, mentors and whatever else you want to call them, end up being very important to people.

When you have a mentor, everything is much easier for you because you will learn from some mistakes you make in life. It's like when you play football and you have a good coach, there is no way that you won't succeed. Once you decide you want to learn, you will need to be prepared because there are tribes here that you serve in a business and they settle in years later. It's like they are mentoring them in that particular trade, and during the mentoring process, they will learn a lot from their mentor because they have money making secrets. Indeed, everyone has a different story about how they accumulated riches; it all depends on the mentor and how they choose to teach you. Since everyone of us is unique, comparisons are impossible.

A person needs multiple mentors especially when he is in the family his parents are the most important mentors for him. Family spends most of the time so there is no need to have a bigger mentor than parents. While in university or school his teacher will be the biggest mentor in this case if he lives by following his teachers then he does not need an alternative mentor. While he is in the sport his senior players will be his biggest mentors as a senior player must inform the juniors about important things which if followed will surely lead to success in life.

At least from my few decades of experience, most successful people don't normally get that way from a mentor, but the number one person you will hear them credit/thanks, is their wife.  I'm sure some of you have been in this very boat with your wife.  They push our lazy asses and help us to become the best us that we can be (some of them) and I know that sounds cheesy but it's the legit truth. I hear it over and over again.
