Nigeria's hope of going to the World Cup has been finally dashed with FIFA confirming that Congo DR and not Nigeria will be featuring in the playoffs.

In its statement, FIFA said: “The FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off Tournament will see six teams fight it out for the final two places at the FIFA World Cup 2026™, to be staged in Canada, Mexico and the United States across 16 host cities.”
The governing body added, “All of the six teams have now been decided, with Bolivia, Congo DR, Iraq, Jamaica, New Caledonia and Suriname confirmed as qualifiers.”

With this, it is evident that FIFA didn't consider the protest of the NFF as valid since there was ammendments of the playoff qualifying teams.  

Waiting for another four years is heartbreaking.

That settles the score then. Those fans dreaming for the Super Eagles to partake in the intercontinental playoff are shocked with the news. I dont know why they think FIFA will side with them in this issues. DR Congo is the best team to compete in the playoff let's exclude any form of sentimentality. The Super Eagles were not superb in the qualification phase which is why they must suffer the consequences. The only painful thing here is that the next World Cup will be in the next four years.

I totally agree with you on this one he’s a very good goalkeeper and he should be in one of the best clubs in the world by now, he has a lot in him to give out but I’m so surprised that with all his performance in the African cup of nations no team in Europe is interested in him, he really needs to have a very good agent that can actually push him forward, if he should go to Europe he will do more better over there.

I love Nwabali so much but then I wasn't surprised that he is now without club. Nwabali is far better than Many keepers out there in Europe. Tonimez, like how do you come to the conclusion that he is an arrogant player?
Have you had any encounter with him for you to say such, or you are just jumping to conclusions by judging him base on the fact that he is that commanding type of goalkeeper?
Or is it that you always expect him to keep shut without shouting at his backline when they are not in order?

I don't think it's wise to be judging someone you have not met in person, by just concluding  that he is arrogant base on the opinion of others or his attitude on the field of play, because naturally all top class goalkeepers are vocal at the back, so I don't see him as the first to be doing that.

Are you saying that Nwabali lacks packaging and connections, I doubt that. However, I don't really know what's the problem that makes it difficult for Nwabali to break into any of these big European Leagues because he has the quality. Maybe, I will say he's not lucky enough.

It's better for him to play in South Africa till he is able to find his way to a bigger league. At least, he will be training to keep himself fit.

I never expected that case to succeed in the first place. Let be sincere with ourselves, Nigeria does not deserve to play in the world cup this year after everything that happened in the qualifying match right from the group stage until we exit the qualifying round. Nigeria was in a better position to qualify for this world cup without stress but we gamble the chance, underestimate our opponents in the group stage, dropped points unnecessarily and we paid dearly for the gross mistakes. The mistakes were too heavy to be corrected when we realised them and it led us to where we are today. Imagine South Africa got their points deducted but still ahead of us on the table. There is a consequence for any mistake and it is better we faced the consequences and we'll learn from this probably.

Seems late for goal keeper Stanley Nwabali move to European football club because he was over 29 years old although playing with the championship club level, usually many African player moving to European club under twenty years old and playing for academy team for junior career. However with national team caps I think still has chance for Stanley Nwabali moving to Europe football club although start with the second division team but depend on that player its self want to leave domestic league and get challenge leaving their country?

I agree with your opinion here that Nwabali needs a good PR because that alone would set his path for him in his career. He had a good outing in the just-concluded AFCON, which should have given him good publicity, but it seems his management team is not as proactive as they should be to do a good marketing for him. His experience should be able to earn him a good spot in the European team and league.

It is just unfortunate that a goalie in that capacity is still not well recognized apart from the time he plays for the supper eagles and still plays for south Africa till present. with his quality and personality, Nwabali has all that it takes to play in most of the top European league but lets just say that he is not lucky enough to a large extent. at least, still playing for a good team in south African is still a good plus and though age is not that much on his side, their is every possibility that he gets to play for a top team eventually before he retires.

No doubt Nwabali, has proven himself many times over in African football as one of the continent's finest goalkeepers and what he needs now in his career is to show his worth in Europe, where the big leagues are as far as football is concerned. I don't think that he has anything else to prove in South Africa, he has shown the stuff he is made of and now that he's a free agent he should explore bigger opportunities. I agree that he needs a top agent that can push his resume so that clubs in Europe can take interest in him but if nothing is coming his way I guess he can settle for what comes his way for now while hoping for a better deal.

How do you know that Nwabali is arrogant? I do not know Nwabali in person but from his behavior in the field of play he is not arrogant as you have described him to be. Nwabali got plenty of offers after he terminated his contract with Chippa United but if he is still without a club now, i think he should get himself another agent because it seems his agent does not know is work very well. I agree Nwabali needs to get a coach who would focus on his character because he jokes sometimes in the field of play, and as a goalkeeper, he needs to remain focused in the goalpost so that he will not make an error that will lead to a goal but he does not needs a coach would focus on arrogance because he is not arrogant.

Of course Nwabali is one of the best goalkeepers in Africa and I think he stands side by side with Onana so both are really good it's just that Onana had a terrible turn when he went to Manchester United, this could happen to anyone. We've seen some players join certain clubs and flop and it is always due to one reason or another. I wouldn't say he is better than Onana because if you look at Onana's performance back in Inter Milan you will see he was great and multiple teams wanted to sign him.

Nwabali doesn't lack PR and he certainly doesn't lack connection sometimes some players are committed to some clubs that some teams get scared to approach them. The pay in South African league is fair that's why he he isn't that bothered about leaving. Some players just don't see the need to leave their club if their are being payed well. I don't think Nwabali will be playing for any top teams in Europe anymore maybe Turkey or somewhere in Europe other than the top 5 league.

Just checked online for any update about the transfer speculations about Stanley Nwabali, and there is no new information. The Nigerian is a good goalkeeper and should attract more clubs since he is now a free agent. I am surprised that clubs from Europe are not showing interest in him. He should keep on training individually so that anytime he is called for training or a trial, he will be at his best.
