I think the major problem of the NFF is politics and not even tribalism because at the end, the politicians would want the manager to be answerable to them and field whichever players they want him to field without considering if those players can fit into the manager's plan for the particular game. Choosing the NFF executives too are political and these people also determine who becomes the manager and the player recruitment.

Bringing in a foreign coach does not give any assurance that there will be an improvement overnight. So it's better to allow the manager to do his job since he looks more promising right now even after the loss. I'm not against having a local coach too because the last AFCON was won by a Nigerian coach so it's possible if the NFF can leave politics while making the choice of who becomes the coach.

The problem when it comes to the Nigerian football is the NFF, the reason is that the NFF is playing politics with the development of football in Nigeria. Just like any other sector in the country which has been ravaged by corruption the footballing sector is one that has been drawn backward as a result of corruption in the part of the NFF officials. It is a well known fact that elections to the NFF board has been full of manipulation , delegates are paid huge sums of amount of money to vote for particular candidates which the incubent board wants to succeed them.

So after the election these official has to find way and get back their money. This is the reason why they play politics with everything concerning football in the country. It's a well known fact that players who are even invited to the national team is based on recommendation which has to be approved by the NFF officials. To a large extent the manager of the Super Eagles is not even making the decisions that takes place behind the background.

Having a home base coach is not the sole reason why favouritism and tribalism exists in the national team. I think the selection  comes from the top, if foreign coaches has been doing better why hasn't Nigeria been playing differently from what it has been. The last time the national team won a trophy was when a home base coach was the head coach, Stephen Keshi who's a Nigerian helped the Super Eagles win the AFCON in 2013, I as a Nigerian, I believe strongly in home base coaches. If they can get the right man, allow him to do his job, pay and treat him the way they usually treat foreign coaches things will take a different turn for our team.

Following the 3-0 defeat to the Super Eagles the other day, CAF has placed a sanction on Guinea-Bissau from using the stadium in any fixture.

From my own point of view, this is medicine after death. The sanction will not change the result. Guinea-Bissau have won and taken all 3 point from the Super Eagle.

This is not even a worthy excuse for conceding 3:0. what is the sanction for to even start with? if the condition of the field is not favorable enough, did the two teams not play in the same condition? why do we now think that the bad condition of the field affected just the super eagles hence the reason why they lost in that game.

As a team that is from a country that has a lot of bad field, using bad field as an excuse for a bad performance is actually funny and insane. the sanction is just a call for the upgrading of the field and has nothing to do with the super eagles playing their last game on that pitch.

As I read this I was laughing beyond measure because the problem of we as nation we always find an excuses to what matters nothing admitting that they failed to deliver what they are entrusted to do is difficult, at first are they not from Africa and know the typography of oir geographical location if I may ask is it their first to play in the region to know that there environment is not like the foreign or club side , does that mean is only Guinea Bissau survive such environment if they have known all this while engaging in the match where this kind of loss is conceive which is extremely disgraceful as big as super eagles not even a goal is not encouraging from who claimed is field issue.

Since, the Super Eagle coach and some other players have complaint against the field, why did they go ahead to play the game on that pitch and gave Nigeria a heavy blow with a bad record just like that.

Maybe, the CAF officials that went for supervision smoked cheap weed for them to approve such rough surface as a good field for international competition.

I'm very delighted with statement you made, why the complain and why the sanction, super eagles should bow their heads in shame, should we continue discussing this, does it worth our time, they were defeated and I don't think this excuse is valid although that is my opinion.

Another factor that helped the team then was the government in power, they showed some concerns with the need of the team and had little to no interference in the team, but now we see everything about the NFF been politicized so much that even appointments are not really based on skill, they just make it more of a political appoint and appointing those who has got no good knowledge of sports management and so it is affecting and will continue to affect the result the team will be getting until they fix the leadership of the body right. I always like the idea of the home coaches because i believe they know and understand the players very well as Nigerians that they all are, Foreign coaches may have the skill but may not be able to completely relate with this players at that level that a Home coaches would.

I agreed that the field was not suitable for playing and the conditions were not favorable but one team scored three goals and the other team could not score any goal, I think they should have scored at least one goal but the Super Eagles could not do that which was their lack. So I think Guinea-Bissau won with their performance and snatched all 3 points from the Super Eagles. So the Super Eagles should check their fault and improve their performance.

I don't want to quote a specific post but seeing the discussion about hiring a local coach versus a foreign coach, I just don't understand why national teams keep choosing foreigners. You can see that Senegal won the last AFCON with a local coach and Morocco is doing great on all fronts with a Moroccan coach. Also if you look at the last three World Cups, they were all won by teams with a native coach, from Spain to Argentina and France.
I feel like having a local coach who speaks the language, understands the culture and truly cares about the team is a huge plus. So I still don't understand why countries do not hire local coaches especially when they already have quality options available at home.

Get the point, the whole idea of hiring a foreign coach is by NFF is to supposedly pay him a certain huge amount in dollars, then go back to collect kickback from this coach, so they are not really concerned about the expertise of the Coach and how the coach is able to deliver on he's job, they just want to get their own revenue back to them. take for instance Eric Chelle might be earning let's say $100,000, those guys might call me to tell him that he should give them at least 30,000 from that amount. But if they try to do this kind of a thing with a local coach, there is likelihood that the guy might not agree to this kind of agreement or might even default in the long run if he initially agrees.

I also don't think the excuse is valid. Honestly this is one of the reasons why African football is not encouraging, because we like to give excuses for everything. Why can't they accept defeat in peace? So they want us to be convinced that the field was the reason why the Super Eagles lost 3-0 to Guinea Bissau.  This kind of excuse is even embarrassing because people already know that Super Eagles players don't perform well when it comes to national team games.

The question that you are trying to ask is already self explanatory, the reason is that when a player knows that his place in the super eagles is secured no matter how badly that he plays will not give out his best and will play, with no real level of seriousness. Because he knows that at the end of the day he will still be called up to the national team no mater what. Because from what we are seeing we are doing a recycling process with the types of player's that are been invited to the Super Eagles team. There is no competition and so no geal and hunger to coming from the part of the players.

Until we see competition in this current super eagles team, which will depend on the type of player's that are invited to the team. Which will boil down again to the connection that I mentioned, I don't see any thing changing yet when it comes to the attitude of the players.

I never support a Nigerian coaching the Super Eagles. It is where favoritism and tribalism will begin again. The Super Eagles coach is doing his job. If you noticed, the loss to Guinea-Bissau was the first loss since he became the Super Eagles' head coach.

Either we are having foreign coach or local coach, it doesn’t stop favoritism or tribalism. Do you even think the coach will have opportunity to select the players which he wants, how sure are you that they are not just going to select players for the coach, and they will ask the coach to work with those players, NFF is already corrupt, the system is corrupt, and I don’t think either foreigner or our own coach can solve the problem.

Super eagles have tried both foreign and local coaches, but I don’t always see much difference in their performance, the system is so corrupt already, and no matter who they brings, the person will find it difficult to build a perfect squad.

I feel the Guinea Bissau players already mastered their home stadium, that is how they could comfortably defeat the Super Eagle, all of it feels like a deliberate action to mess the game and favour the host side.

It's high time we accept our flaws and find ways to improve, there are games where we should be dominating but unfortunately we see ourselves being dominated or struggling and it's shameful.

To be honest, there have been much decline if only we can do much better then winning a trophy won't be that very difficult.

To be honest, that was unnecessary excuses after conceding three goals. I knew something like this would come after they played poor football. Despite the fact the stadium was very bad, they shouldn’t have conceded those goals, three goals without scoring one goal. I didn’t expect our national team to played that bad after the first home game. Guinea has won the game, even if they are ban for using their stadium, they have already secured the three points.

Moreover, the Nigeria performance was different from today’s friendly match against Russia. Though they were losing by three goals, and fought back to level the game by 3-3. I was surprised after the final result, I thought they were going to lose another match after what they played against Guinea Bissau, and they managed to get a draw.

This indeed sound funny . I had to go through it twice , they shouldn’t make things complicated. Why blame the field ,  as  if Guinea-Bissau didn’t play on that same pitch . Or were they floating in the air the whole time?. One thing for sure is that they are not given Nigeria back those three points . They might endup stopping the use of the stadium, I came across Repory or something saying that the Guinea-Bissau football federation publicly stated that  it had not received any official CAF l notification banning the stadium and also denied knowledge of any CAF apology to the NFF. The Nigeria football team should forget about such complain and try to put more effort next time .
