Updating the wallet only 1-2 days before the hard fork will happen is guaranteed to have some consequences as people and services will miss to update. It's even worse if you don't announce it where it is visible to most people (Twitter, wallet alert feature) Not everyone checks the forum daily. Has Noir Group notified all the big exchanges yet? Cryptsy, poloniex and btc38?

Regarding the pool, ypool.net will switch all NRS workers to PTS at block 50000. After that no more NRS mining will be possible but funds can still be withdrawn.

Does updating the wallet reset the coin age to zero? What's the best way to roll existing coins into a new wallet? Just sweep the private key?

Sorry the correct term, is you are updating your client, your wallet and it's contents remain unchanged. All this does is change PoW parameters and thus your coinage is unaffected.

Hello all,

The group has decided to push a Mandatory Update for NoirShares.

The updates includes a few minor touch ups and security check, but most importantly, it HALTS PoW at block 50000. The initial statement stated  5 million PoW but we have decided this number is better reached through PoS, at time of posting there are roughly 2.5 million in existence. We believe this is sufficient PoW and the spread is good.

The key advantages are that w move to the "green" solution quickly, meaning the wallet needs very little maintenance. It also leaves our dev team free to fully pursue our second DAS/DAC, which is imminent.

We apologize for any who feel inconvenienced, but from our point of view, this is the most prudent course of action.

Below are the links for the new wallets, The Mac wallet will be made available shortly.

Windows Zip
Windows exe

For Linux and other derivatiives of the unix system, please use our source code from our git here Source Code

The windows version's are giving me C++ Framework error's, I will try the Linux version to see if that works better for me. Just thought I would share that since it's a short window for the update.

Hi,

I just downloaded the new QT client from Barwizi post above, but I have to say this is a little less user friendly than the auto installed client.
From my experience with other wallets I know by now that I can just uninstall the old client and run the new QT wallet version, but I bet alot of potential new NRS users have no idea how to update an already installed client with a new QT wallet version.
Besides that I'm also not sure what functionality I miss when I'm just running the QT client instead of actually installing the full client.

Another question I have is how my possible future share in a new DAC will be payed out ?
I went through almost all of the texts on the NRS website and the forums and I still only know that at a certain point before a new DAC is launched, a snapshot will be taken to decide which wallets hold how many Noirshares.
But after that what happens ?
- How do I proof it is my wallet that held the NRS ?
- Will there be a one-time payout of the shares I have in the DAC ? Or does it keep paying out over time ? And if yes, will there be more snapshots to see if I still have the shares ?
- How will the pay out (dividend) be done ? Will it be in NRS ? BTC ? Or will it be in a new to be formed coin that will be exclusively linked to that particular DAC ?
- What are Noirbits ? Are those the coins I get from a particular DAC when I have NRS at the snapshot point ?

A lot of questions, but I really hope that one of you guys can give me some clear answers so I can continue acquiring NRS with a better feeling about how it all works !  Cool

Oh yeah, I also noticed the new BTC38 exchange is not mentioned on the NRS website and there is also no notice to update the wallets.
Maybe someone can update this ?

Thanks guys !!!

1. You can install the new client and put your wallet.dat backup into the folder
2. There are many ways in which payouts occur. NRS stakes like cash in a savings account, so you earn interest for keeping a balance in your wallet. There is also the general fund, the first NG venture group, which receives periodic NRS payouts for their various projects. There will be other venture funds opening in the future for other projects. Your participation is logged via wallet address, hard-coded into our payment scripts. These all pay NRS to your wallet. Payouts are typically done in NRS, but new projects may create new coins and payout structures.
3. NoirBits are the first Noir Group coin, exchanged early on for membership in the general fund. NoirBits is currently being re-worked into our future projects.
4. The website is being updated, and BTC38 is being notified-

Thanks!

Ok, thanks for your quick response !  Cool

One more question:
- I read on the forum that the wallet stakes 3% every 14 days. Did I misunderstand that and is the stake 3% a year ? Or is it actually per 14 days ?
- And do I need to keep the wallet open the whole time to make it stake ? And is staking then like mining ?

Ok, more then 1 question  Wink But would be nice to finally know how this works exactly.

Thanks again for your dedication to this coin/ share !

1. Stake is 3% per year, but could possibly be more depending how often you actually stake
2. Wallet cannot stake without being opened, but it's not required to keep it open all the time. Periodically opening the wallet to let it synchronize and stake is ideal, maybe once a week. Staking is in a way sort of like mining, yes. Not the same, but there are similarities.
