I've been dabbling in a bit of coding over the last couple of months and finally can unveil the test version of..... Popboolr.

How to play

1. Login: Log in using your Twitter account details:

The game sounds wonderful but I am wondering if there are any privacy/security  concerns about this step. Even if we trust you, what happens if your server gets hacked? Would our Twitter account data be at risk?

The un-sugarcoated answer:

Do not trust any social media site with any data you value as being private or you wish to be secure. Privacy/ security on a social media account is an oxymoron. Social media sites (prone to getting hacked) are in the business of selling your data to intermediaries (prone to getting hacked) who sell your data to third parties (some legit, some not so legit, all prone to getting hacked). That's the business model, and why these sites are worth billions yet offer their services for free (with T&Cs you can barely see, let alone understand). They prostitute your data.

That being said....

The sugarcoated answer:

Popboolr uses OAuth to log into your Twitter account. When you sign up you give give Popboolr an access token. The default Twitter OAuth setting grants all kinds of permissions. I've updated this to request that you only give Popboolr the minimum permissions (read only). I have no interest in selling your data, forcing you to follow people you've never heard of, or posting tweets on your behalf.... I just want to offer a convenient sign in mechanism.

The privileges you grant to Popboolr are displayed before you first sign in:

This application will be able to:

Read Tweets from your timeline.
See who you follow.


The app will not be able to:

Follow new people
Update your profile
Post Tweets for you
Access your direct messages.
See your Twitter password.

If Popboolr gets hacked, a hacker could obtain the access tokens. However all they will get is the ability to read Tweets from your timeline and see who you follow. Any hacking of your Twitter account details is unlikely to have arisen from having signed up to Popboolr. Obviously be wary of phishing attacks whenever you sign up to this (or any) website, and do your due diligence on OAuth, if your unsure of the security of this.

Remember you can (at any time) revoke Popboolr's access via your Twitter account (go to settings/app) - it always good practice to check what apps have permissions to your Twitter account and whether they need it.

You can of course always use a separate Twitter account for Popboolr for further peace of mind.

I love app developers like you who only ask for the minimum permissions. One of my pet peeves is when way more permissions are requested than reasonably necessary for core functionality.

No, on my system the tab is called shortcut. Raccourci for you. Just add those after the last quote after qt-boolb.exe", so it looks like

Popboolr update

Many thanks to all you early adopters that have helped with testing so far. I really appreciate the time you've taken.

I've added some minor updates and bug fixes to the site today, namely

• Fix to the Top Scorer ticker: testing revealed a minor bug to how top scorers displayed on the leaderboard. This fix has now been addressed.
• Live exchange rate ticker: A live exchange rate ticker has been added. Ticker shows (1) RT/Bools (retweet to bools rate), (2) Bools/BBR (bools to Boolberry rate) and (3) BBR/ BTC (as per Poloniex live feed). This should give users greater transparency on how much each bool collected is worth at any given moment in time.
• Animated ticker changes: I've added some colour animation to ticker value changes.

I've rejigged the ticker a bit however I'm still working on a cleaner solution for displaying ticker information that works well for both mobile & desktop. I'm also working on ideas to make the game play more engaging to users.

Lots more functionality in the pipeline!

I could see my whitepaper being more valuable to a coin that has no strong anonymity yet and which has the funds or market size to pay me. Bitshares and Nxt are probably the strongest candidates for getting my white paper if they are interested because they have weak anonymity thus far and at least the SuperNet (although they are working it, mine is I think superior than what they came up with and I do know what they were working on) has the funds available (haven't spoken to them yet on this issue) and if not just keep it for my own coin. Boolberry may still be affiliated with SuperNet so perhaps SuperNet would fund the addition of my algorithm to both BBR and any other coin on the SuperNet.
