When is the mandatory update required? I wont be back home for a few days, so cant update until then. Will this mess up my staking??

There is no time frame for update even though it's a hardfork, thanks to a very elegant solution used to implement it. However, the more people update fast the earlier Bittrex will resume trading. Please update at the earliest possible occasion to help everyone to move on and for your own safety.

basically the new wallet dont accept a certain transaction
as long as such a transaction dont happens old wallets
will work

but if u didnt update to 3013 and such a tx happens then u will end on a fork
because ur 3012 accept the block and our new 3013 dont

to avoid this possibility update asap

At this level of difficulty, I don't think 200 coin blocks will succeed in staking a lot.

Mine are having a hard time...   Undecided

Here you can see, how many coins have been created in recent days.
Of them formed the award rate of 65% Masternode and 35% POS

The reward is not taken from the air, it is obtained by competition between all the active participants in the network..

200 seems to work for me..
We are at block 5969.(as i write this). At block 4480 full rewards began.
1489 blocks since.
We are all competing POS/Masternode.
In my case I have minted 25 diamonds @.82......
I am POS only, not a masternode.

I split my coins right away after importing my key.
using the Utxo tool.
20 piles at 380 coins a pile.

After 24 hours, I then used the console and set for 200.WHY?
380 is too big for me based on my gross amount..
Because I had almost staked my entire wallet with that first 20 piles.
641 blocks to mature, basically 24 hours. Nothing to stake for quite a few hours..

I checked this morning and I have piles above 200,below 200 but what I consider a nice range..
and with a lot of piles..

I think users need to look at there gross amount...  of coins and split accordingly...
I still see blocks that win but using huge amount of coins in a single pile.  ;(

I'm getting hits on all kinds of pile sizes.
Everyone needs to look at their own scenario  and adjust and probably adjust again..
and constantly adapt..until you are satisfied..
600 dmd I would split to piles of 75 or 50.... 75 for 8 piles or 50 for 12 piles.
8 chances to win or 12 chances, your choice..
Remember we are all competing for 640 blocks per 24 hours..
I am pretty satisfied with the POS engine..
I am hitting 10 plus blocks a day conservatively,  as far as I can tell.
I hope this helps. We have a lot of new users with small holdings..
Every one needs to find that sweet spot if you will..
Cheers.

its a personal decision of each user if he wana try compete with many small or some big or something between coinpile

this comand can help u stay in ur target area
coin pile will then always try to stay in range x1 to x2 of that value
the conversion towards that target size will be a slow process only happening when coin pile stake
and affecting if they split or try add other small coin pile with age above 5 days

the input size of last 1000 POS blocks (on bottom of the link below)
can help ya to see what the rest of network does and what coin pile size can be successful and considered as average this time

How do i make 6 x 100 coin piles using utxo? this new wallet i find confusing so many options, no explanation of usage. what address do i send them to 6 different ones? i preferred the old wallet, i opened it once a fortnight and claimed my 6 diamond then remerged them into 1 pile again to my 1 address and so on. Does the split utxo want to be 6 or 100? do i need to touch custom change address? does it automatically make 6 new addresses? i dont want to try anything and lose my diamonds as im 60% of my portfolio into them..

if u just have 600 coins do nothing beside set the

setstakesplitthreshold 200

once in console

and leave wallet running for POS

every few days u should find 0.8 DMD

u should not split coins of many addresses
all the split/merge automations just work inside a address
so ideal is to just have 1 POS address where u send all ur coins towards
but dont merge them let them be split in like 3 parts of 200 in ur case

Thanks for reply, i have set that in console now so once my 600 block stakes it will become 3x 200 blocks ?
