Never had an issue firing up run.bat before...  always managed to change the Java paths successfully even if I did...  or just used mega-thread run.bat versions if I had to!    

I can't get NRS to stay open this time though...  crashes immediately way before any database stuff shows up...  any ideas?  

No such issues for me.

If you say crash, do you mean the black command window disappearing right away? If so, make sure that there is no "orphaned" java process still blocking the db (kill all java.exe processes with the taskmanager or reboot the pc, then try again starting run.bat).

Otherwise you could post the crash/error message you see in the nxt.log file.

My NRS doesnt seem to be working properly with this new version either, java window stays open as usual
last line in the window says ON_EXIT=FALSE;MVCC=TRUE;CACHE_SIZE=262144

Thanks for that, on that recommendation I went to check my spam folder as well as my trash folder but no message were there regarding NXT.

Oh, and this is the second time that I requested the activation email, the first time was a couple days ago.

Can you please implement multi Nxt account management in one of the upcoming releases? it's hard to manage all different accounts if you use one for every purpose.

Just use  the 1.5.x branch and select your account from the dropdown menu

I've tested it myself and received the confirmation mail. So the mail send function of the forum works (generally). Have you already tried to re-register?

Why do you need to download the blockchain again? just extract the new files over the old ones, restart the run.bat and you are done.

Use supernet client lite for example. the client does not need to download the entire blockchain. just download and extract the client, call the html file and you are ready. that's the most easiest way atm, in my opinion.

Keccak25 is Keccak i.e. SHA3 with a 25th hashing round. Its probably stable, but I don't think it was formally researched. You can mint it with CPU and GPU.

The average number of hashes per mint can be calculated as 2^difficulty where difficulty increases linearly from min to max as more currency units are minted.
For example, if min difficulty is set to 20 the number of hashes required to solve a hash at the beginning would be 2^20 =~ 1 Million

Minting of MS currency is used for creation of new currency units, it does not help in securing the NXT protocol which is based on Proof Of Stake.
