The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Exactly this, you risk barely anything but a little bit of trouble and may be set to gain much money in the longterm with bitcoin. Especially if you use it to invest in bitcoin sites etc as you can still earn money ontop of it.

In 2015 I decided to do something like the beer example.
I'm not drinking alcohol but I'm smoking tobacco (basically I'm an addict).

What am I doing?
I'm basically saving bitcoin as much as I've paid to cigarettes.
For instance I've bought 1 pack cigarette yesterday and it's price was 0.0121 BTC yesterday's price. I'm saving this amount of btc for future.

In january I saved 0.3 BTC for my future. What do I loose? nothing but my lungs Grin
If I got cancer in the future, those btc will cure me I hope Grin

To help you figure it out let's do a little math in USD to figure out a minimum amount of spending power.

To eat in retirement (just to eat) for 2 people, at an average of $5 per meal per person, eating 3 times a day, 365 days a year for 20 years you'll need $219,000. That's just to eat in retirement (and a $5 meal at that!) Now you can figure out how much additional money you'll need to live in retirement and how many bitcoins it might take you to get there based on whatever future price you think is realistic.

Enjoy the saving!

Are you high? $45 a day for food for 3 people? More like $20. Unless you're 300 pounds and never work out.

Volatile is a keyword here. Seeing how bitcoin is now constantly under $300 I doubt that future will be so bright. Not without some major reality changing events - like Google accepting bitcoins or some major company like Wal-Mart.

I like the idea of investing the money you would buy a beer or cigarettes with, and instead buying BTC.

I tried a passive investing approach like this a few years ago with my morning Starbucks coffees...i was amazed at how much money i wasted per year.
At the end of that full year i was happy with the silver i bought instead of over priced/bitter coffee.

Buy whatever you can, at whatever the price is. I can afford to lose $1 today for the possibility of $1,000 tomorrow.

I still think 21 btc is the magic number.

21 is actually my lucky number. I might make it a goal to aquire 21 coins  Cheesy. I honestly couldn't say how many someone would need to be a millionaire in x amount of years but I would just say if you believe in the technology acquire as many as you can comfortably afford and enjoy the hodl  Cheesy.

21 is indeed a perfect number. 21 million total coins, only 1 million people in the world will own 21 coins. This is definitely a good position to be in if bitcoin makes it huge in the next decade. Who knows? no one imagined it would even reach 1 dollar in the early days.
