Sell an item on ebay for $100, actually receive $86

http://www.newlifeauctions.com/calc.html

Remind me why there's no good bitcoin auction websites since Bitmit again?

Yep it's disgusting. Ebay fees and Paypal fees? Highway robbery!
Best to not list things as a 'Buy it now' as they take a decent percentage of them sales.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

The trouble is if you put them on as an auction your item is likely to go for pennies/cents. I usually like to put items as BIN on with a bit of a premium price and check the 'make an offer' option and wait to see what I get, but I'd rather list items other places first, but unfortunately ebay is still probably one of the best places to sell your shit.

And don't forget the risk of charge backs and item damages upon return. They get 45 days (somestimes more) to use what you sell, then they can create a dispute for "item not as described", send it back to you and get their full money back Tongue

If you list it as no returns/refunds and can provide proof the item was signed and delivered usually Paypal will decline their claim, or at least they have for when I was almost scammed. I agree the fees are quiet high on the FNV and then Paypal takes their chunk, I usually try to list it high so that I still get somewhat of a profit.

There are ways to protect yourself against chargebacks, but most people are unaware of this. Always send expensive items via a recorded delivery service that requires a signature and you should be fine. If you don't get any proof of postage then the buyer can just claim they didn't receive it and they will get their money back through a PayPal dispute.

I've used ebay for hundreds of transactions but after rising seller fees I thought it was time to stop. 9% was already a huge bitch

eBay/PayPal fees are ridic, but then again they do offer protection for the buyer when things go wrong. Pretty much screwed as a seller if you don't send under registered mail though Sad

A lot of folk try to circumvent eBay fees through a number of means, unfortunately avoiding PayPal fees while using PayPal is a little trickier.

I hardly sell anything on there anymore because of their rapebastard fees. I'm surprised a lot of people still sell stuff on ebay because you don't make much on the cheaper items once all the fees have been taken out and then there's shipping/postage costs as well. I see a gap in the market for a crytpto bay to emerge though.

Yeah I rarely use eBay for selling items now, turning to the eBay owned Gumtree instead for cash payment. I sometimes offer Bitcoin/Litecoin as a means of payment but so far nobody has taken me up on the offer Sad

I might have to try this. Is Gumtree completely free to list? I'd also offer cryptocurrency as a payment option, but I can't imagine there's many people on there who've even heard of it. It's still unfortunately quite an underground thing as a payment medium really.

Yeah it's free to list items, which is great as far too many times I've listed items that have gone on to not sell. Yeah, there's no harm in offering crypto as a means of payment. I only use it for in-person transactions, sold as seen etc.

eBay fees are pretty ridiculous, but there are some items that I would rather sell on there than on a local marketplace like Gumtree.

I opened up an eBay store. You pay a monthly fee, but it gives you lower final value fees. It's totally worth it if you sell over a few hundred dollars a month on there.

We think Bitcoin will play a very important role in the future. Exactly how that plays out, and how we can best take advantage of it and enable it with PayPal, that's something we're actively considering. It's on our radar screen."

Which is probably code for once we've worked out how to take our extortionate cut. Obviously I'm all for ebay and other merchants adopting/accepting Bitcoin and also taking their tiny cut in fees etc, but I've got a feeling it won't even be worth using Bitcoin with them once they've got their claws into it. I suppose it'll save them money on creditcard fees as well, so maybe they can pass the savings back onto the users of Bitcoin, but I'm sceptical.

You can still accept Bitcoin/Litecoin etc on Gumtree though as it is simply a classified listing type website. I've put the option up several times, unfortunately nobody has taken me up on it yet Sad

eBay is like mobsters shaking us down for more and more. I don't see why they need to charge so much for the FV when all they do is list it. They're not advertising it or anything special. MOBSTERS I TELL YA Tongue

I sold a few things on eBay the other day for the first time in a while and checking my fees I noticed on one item they'd actually charged me a final value fee of £0.24 on postage! When did they start doing that?
