Man, I tried to use eBay some years ago to sell one of those shitty netbooks that were getting really popular back then.  I shipped it out and the buyer marked it as broken and included a picture of another netbook that was clearly not mine.  I showed proof to eBay but they still sided with the guy who scammed me.  I really hate eBay and Paypal ever since.  Having a firm stance that you'll always side with the buyer is such a load of crap because it only encourages scammers to appear as victimized buyers.

With all the fees, it's very hard to make a profit on Ebay these days. I only use it to get rid of things I no longer want to hold onto.  Bump up your shipping price a little to help offset the fees.   Wink

Ebay is a ripoff with fees but then I realized amazon charges almost the same. The only nice thing with ebay is a lot of people will pay a lot more than an item is worth depending on the item. I sold items that cost 200 retail for 240. After fees and shipping my netgain was still over 200.

Certain things sell for more on eBay, cell phones/electronics especially.  I've found books, especially textbooks go for more and way faster on Amazon too.  But I think Amazon's fees are actually higher than the 10% eBay takes.  It might even out though after PayPal takes 2.9%

Any centralized marketplace like amazon or ebay is going to take a huge cut out of your sales because people trust them and because they attract a huge amount of volume of buyers to their site. Part of the fee that you pay is essentially your budget for advertising.

Another good example of a marketplace that charges huge fees: stubhub.com. They have you price your tickets a certain price, will take a 10% commission from that price and will charge a 15% markup to the buyer from your price for a total of 25% (I may have the commission and markup reversed but the point still stands)

I stopped using ebay years ago because of the ridiculous fees involved. Also having to pay a percentage on the shipping fees charged to the customer also. Was about 15% at the end of the day plus then you lose 4% off paypal also... So 20% tax in total.

Agree, 20% is a lot for any transaction, time to use bitcoin instead..

If it is possible, i avoid the use of paypal to not support them. I have no problem with extended waiting of 1-2 extra days when paying via wire transfer.
In Austria we have other platforms, very popular and free platforms to sell our shit. Ebay aint necessary.

It's a pain in the ass. I really want Bitcoin to pop-up and take over PayPal completely, I am tired of the bullshit they offer. PayPal barely even cares about their customers.
