Ive been out of the game for a while, is this the best software to use on a cpu with 40 threads for mining.   I realise gpu or asic is mostly favoured but I wanted to see how feasible it is and the power consumption, etc while doing so

Nope, it isn't, it works only with networked miners like Bitmain Antminer with Cgminer as miner software.

i like the new ui, but did you remove the local miner?

thats pretty much what i use this software for, keeping bfgminer running on a rpi to power 8 usb litecoin miners.

USB miners will be probably added in the future.

hey I hope this comes eth ready , I'm sure you will get even more on top of the antminer user using it as well for eth GPU mining . i do understand why not right a way with USB miners .but no eth support might be bad or you get so many request you have to..just a thought . and sgminer miners support  eth  Getwork and Stratum now with out a proxy, you have to play with it some but it's great once you get it working . don't forget awesome miner has ETH support Smiley for sgminer miners the main problem with awesome atm it only runs on windows PC's unless you use it to monitor  , id rather use Ubuntu for this kind stuff over windows , i use windows for every day use and Ubuntu type OSes seem to run miners a lot better and even now you can run minera on a PC not just Pi's . i have to see, if it can run Linux you can run minera on it. i don't know if you will let us with the new version don't care really, ill keep using windows to eth mine or use minera if it has support for eth miners and we can still use it on PC's with Linux or window PC's (if windows PC support happens) . and GPU cards will all ways be with in reach of everyone , no end in site mining with them, it seems, if one coin falls one replaces it that pays all most as good and every one keeps having fun.

ofc i plan to keep using minera with my script miners, no software controller runs my small but growing  167 'MH farm better ,i have all but given up on btc mining the miners cost to much and get out dated to fast unlike GPU's etc .the big guys destroyed btc mining for home users but whats new they always ruin a good thing, greed .

Thank you very much for the info, my main problem is the time I haven't. I have a full time job and the time for Minera is always less and what I'm doing with the new Minera is really complex because I started from scratch.

I hope to introduce ETH and local miners but it's really early to speak about them.
Now it's time to finish this step and put everything online, then we could start speaking about the future.

it's cool , i kind of know you don't do minera for a living if you did more would be done faster , if minera made enough to live off of reasonable I'm sure  you would rather do that all day Smiley I had to throw that in there about ETH Ming because it's not going away any time soon at first i really thought it wouldn't last but now coin base lets you sell eth coins direct to your bank account and a lot of other nice things are starting to happen. I didn't think would with no end in site. I know it won't be easy giving minera support for eth mining .Smiley just had to add it .

Question can we still use minera 7.0 for script mining or local support like we do now till it is added to the new rewrite ?.

I run it now on a few PI's with Ubuntu 16.0.1. and have it running really smooth all but one issue I'm working on with BFG it never auto starts but CGMiner does with any version of Ubuntu and BFG does with any version below 16, I'lll figure out why and would rather not ask why, it's more fun learning it on my own . or I would have asked Smiley . no idea what's up with orange PI's not loading the corn file or making it work right from time to time with a new kernel version just my oranges do it .

Thanks
cya

not a minera specific question but depending on your OS, you can check the /var/log/messages dated before the restart.

should be messages1 or smthg close Smiley

PI freezing are you using a self powered hub or running the miner/s off the PI with no usb hub ?

Does minera software run on a Rapsberry PI 3 Model B?

Yes but you may have to do one of the options below https://github.com/michelem09/minera

If you wanna use a new Raspberry PI 2 and you are running a Minera version <= 0.4.0, you need to first upgrade packages from an old Raspberry, then you can use the same SD Card on the new one. Get a Raspberry PI (not 2), push the Minera SD Card on it, turn on and SSH into it, then run these commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

This could take a while (I mean also an hour, it's slow), but after that you can run your Minera SD Card in any Raspberry PI model, new ones included.

i have run it on a rasp pi 2 2b ans 3b but i did a clean install and built my own minera if your asking can  you run the per made image on a rasp pi 3 the above should let you , i can't remember if I tried yet i use Ubuntu 16 and build it.IF it can run a linux distribution, it can run minera, i have run minera on a desktop PC , i complied my own version on a PC with Ubuntu 16 and run it but to me that was a waste of a good PC , i wanted to see if it was do able . you can probable even run it on a windows 10 PC, win 10 now comes with tools to let you do that kind of stuff . I'm talking the windows 10 gui everyone uses, not the 10 version that runs with power shell , i think the last win 10 updated added all that stuff in .

I just dl'd latest version,  used win32diskimager to burn the img to sd card

put card into raspberrypi (2 for this instance)  turn it on, it boots to the command line.

shouldnt it auto start the minera gui?

tried from another computer to web into it at the local net ip.

im not that familiar with linux, tho i've been playing around on the 'wannabe' fringe for years.

i have 3 raspberrypi 2's and i just bought a pi3   as my next project.

need to get my miner back up, soonish.

Thanks for any ideas.

There isn't any GUI. You have to go to your Raspberry IP from a browser. Like http://192.168.1.10/minera/
