The Altmarket is quite stable and you don't have to forget, the lower BTC is, the higher the possibility to have a new ATH for the alts (btc wise)

We should wait quietly, and don't make reckless moves. It's a good time only for buying, but not for selling.

Only recently I became interested in NEM, probably because I heard Jeff McDonald's speeches on youtube, and also I took part in Loyalcoin bounty program. But I decided not to wait and buy some NEW on Cryptopia.
1782 pages here! Long time to read, but I will need time to scroll everything as at least read some parts, as still I don't understand many things and the wallet seems difficult to me.
Also I have 1 idea, I sent e-mail through NEM's site, but no response, may be I'll get it, but if some people from NEM are here may be we can discuss it? If in brief it's idea of site/service which will use NEM as currency and may be as platform.

Funny you never asked why things went up 10x-100x last year. I did actually, but fair points. We’re all still up from November. But the issue I’ve always feared is a total trapdoor in crypto like in 2014, when so much value is erased that the market enters a multi-year dead cycle. Seems like there’s too much momentum now for that, but that to me is the main risk (e.g. BTC 1500 given).

NEM hack via Coincheck estimated at $700+ million
What does this mean for the overall market? We can’t be sure obviously but so far the news has primarily only affected $XEM value (18%). Coincheck is a large exchange in Japan but doesn’t make up huge total market volume.

Does anybody can deposit or withdraw XEM on Bittrex? Is it somehow related to Coincheck hack? Or it is unrelated and that's regular maintenance? Because it is 2nd day I can't deposit or withdraw.

Nem has been absolutely hammered since reaching its ath a few weeks ago. Granted it shot up to 2 dollars too fast, but is worth barely a quarter of what it was worth a few short weeks ago. Being down 70+% is worrisome.

All funds are traceable and NEM foundation is marking all accounts with the stolen funds. only about 1100 XEM has been moved around AFAIK, and no XEM has been moved to any exchanges yet.

I think the thieves will have a very difficult time cashing out. Five percent of the entire NEM supply has been effectively taken out of circulation. I mean, it can technically "circulate," but it's tainted.

Seems like an impasse at the moment, but perhaps there are talks going on that aren't public already.

And for the people new to crypto-land, the precedence here was set by NXT when a hacker stole a bunch from BTER. https://www.ccn.com/fifty-million-nxt-stolen-bter-cryptocurrency-exchange-ransomed-hacker/. They seem to have negotiated a fee of 100 BTC and the hacker returned the NXT to the exchange. It is possible that a similar scenario might unfold here. It would seem to be in everyone's best interest if such a thing happens though - the hacker can get some reward (call is a 'security bounty') and the exchange gets its crypto back.

Really depends on if its an inside job or not i guess? I suspect someone inside the company may have had access. Still blows me away that they kept that much funds in one hot wallet. At least 300M XEM was theirs that they bought in 2016 also. Dunno why that even needed to be in the same wallet.
