I wouldn't be surprised if the current hash rate drop is bitmain taking S3s off the shelves for boxing up.

You would think that with all the threads relating to Preorders and the drawbacks, people would have learnt from them. S3s are currently at Preorder status and until Bitmain go back to "Shipping from IN STOCK within 48hrs", the Preorder status remains.

Either way, at the current price of BTC, 2 x 0.74 x $691 AUD, that puts the price just over $1000 AUD therefore attracting an extra $200 odd for import tax.
Id rather wait until the price is dropped to the point where im not paying any more tax that we currently do here. Im sure the same goes for other countries who get raped by the customs.
Also, once the shipping status changes from preorder, when we do order, we will know exactly how much Bitmain is going to declare on the customs invoices.

Simple solution to this problem, would be for Bitmain to sell the units with minimum qty of 1. Surely that cant be too hard for them to do?

i might be wrong but selling two units and shipping them in pairs probably cost them same money as one box. plus what we having now is pre order of units which mining from batch to batch and making massive income just from mining.

Not sure if theyre already mining or not with the S3s from Batch 1 which are already sold and paid for by the preorder buyers. Im not prepared to give any Mining supplier the benefit of the doubt in their favour of not mining nowadays, although every S1 and S2 ive bought have arrived seemingly brand new.

Just say hypothetically they are mining and that they have 1000 S3s mining away. At the current difficulty 500THs of mining power brings in roughly 14.3BTC a day. So at the current BTC price, that works out to roughly $10K a day. Not sure how many S3 units were part of Batch 1 alone, but they sold out in record time, therefore were paid for from the very beginning by the buyers at a cost which already covered the cost of production, shipping and profit for the seller.
Using the hypothetical figure of 1000 units, and if they were hypothetically mining from day one earning roughly 15BTC a day, multiply that by 10-15 days of preorder time, then, yes, massive profits indeed.

Im personally going to wait for them to be sold from "In Stock ready to ship", mainly more for the reason of import tax costs, which at the moment, who would know what the price is going to be at shipping time. Im pretty sure the cost at shipping time is whats going to be on the customs invoice, not what the value is if we paid now.

Then theres the factor of info regarding the upgrade kits which a lot of people are still waiting for.

AntMiner S3 NEWS

The Second Batch of AntMiner S3 runs out of stock. The Second Batch of AntMiner S3 is still in stock!!!
The Third Batch of S3 sales price is dropped to 0.725 BTC each with international shipping, which will open sales at 22:00 pm on July 4th (UTM + 8 ). The Third Batch is most likely to be shipped before July 20th, but no more than one or two days delay may happen.

This is still too expensive.  You'll have to do better than this to get an order from me.

you right.  They selling them in pairs because this way they can sell more quicker.i will not risk with first batch like it was with s2. first batch was disaster for them. second was different. I did made my own calculation and thanks to sharp but steady approach i did save some btc. once uk buyers of first batch will report how expensive is to get it in uk, that will be start point for me. at this moment i bought and sold some btc between announcing s3 and showing them for orders and I did made nice profit. People who ordered from their btc on s3 and maybe not lost btc but defiantly didn't made any btc. and for another couple of day will not make btc. bag holders can play with btc and make more till s3 become avaliable from stock....

One thing to think about is we are all fairly confident we'll see these this month. How many other bitcoin asuc manufacturers would you believe when they give you a shipping date? I wouldn't trust any of them.

You know what I like about Bitmain ?

They never bitch if their thread goes off-topic and the shills are civil.

More than you can say about Spondooles.

~L)L~

Well the sp10's and sp30's are sold with a completely different method and with different style of miners then the s-1 or s-3.

BTW I have now found a second post  to agree with you.

oh and  and back on topic  did you buy one or 2  s-3's  like I did or did you stay on the sidelines.

Well, two is company, three is a crowd.

The current S3 price is silly. I am on the sidelines until they can mine 20% more BTC than they cost.

If I could get the Bitmain CEO and the S3 design team to sign it, I'd probably buy one just to complete the Bitmain collection.
If the S1 was the Mac Plus of the bitcoin mining world, the S3 is the Mac 512.

How about it Bitmain, can I get an autographed S3 ?

They are selling with a min of 2 because it is cheaper per unit that way.  Ups charges about $25 for the first pound (mostly for the customs clearance), then about $25 for each miners weight.  Therefore, to ship 1 costs about $50, 2 would cost $75 to ship.  2 miners sent in 2 shipments would cost $100.   Per 2 units, this $25 may not sound like much, but it goes straight to the bottom line (in addition it is slightly cheaper to process 1 order rather than 2 for Bitmain).

In addition, the higher average weight per shipment, the better rates they can negotiate (but this is just a couple % or more in savings from UPS).  UPS do not like seeing light packages.  Give them 10+ pound international shipments and you can get great (~75% off retail) rates.

http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/products/sp30-yukon-september-batch-1 @ just over $5000 this really is quite a crap deal  when you can get 12 S3's  now without the wait for just over $5500. Just under double the power to power the S3's but between now and September the diff increase will soon sort out that benefit that the SP30 has. Plus I would guess by September the price on the S3 will be down as low as 0.5BTC.

Bitmain still are by far the best out their for price, even though ROI is highly unlikely for those who don't resell their rigs frequently.

(Or if your like me and have a free scheme offering solar panels for free, the supplier just keeps any excess energy produced and sells it back to the grid - No excess energy in this house Cheesy)

Well you need a lot of psu's to run 12 s'3.

Lets say you get 12 for 8.88 btc or 5683.20 usd.

you need  5 evga psu's that is about 900 .  you are at 6583.

your gear does not show until JULY 22..

It hashes at 6th pulling  5000 watts. it earns 3k and then it is  sept 24.

this is with 20% and 630 usd a coin.

but use 17% and 700 a coin

it is at  3.8k

15% and 750 a coin =  4.5k

so I am thinking while the s-3 is better then the sp30 it will be hard pushed to make money.

As I said ROI on the S3 is still unlikely under normal circumstances. But Bitmain seem to be the only ones who get close to the mark. Spondoolies are probably the next best contender, the SP10 for a little while was a good deal and i should make ROI just about.

Basically mining is not going to make any one a fortune these days unless you have big money to start with. But its a more fun way to get bitcoin and if done correctly it is slightly more profitable then just buying bitcoin. From my calculations I would say I am about 4.5 BTC better of over the last 6 months from mining then if I had just brought bitcoin flat out. So its still worth it for the little attention I have to apply to it, but even if I was working on a loss I would still be dabbling in mining for the fun of it.

Basically mining is not going to make any one a fortune these days [...]

It was never supposed to.  This whole concept of making big bucks is only an artifact of ASICS and is trending towards zero from the massive gains made by those with Avalon G1's and the lucky few who got Avalon B2's in Bitsyncom's "test" shipment.  In 2012 I had an 8GH/s GPU farm which pulled ~5.5kW.  This farm made me ~5BTC/day at its peak which was equivalent to $30 a day after power was paid for.  We're almost back there (thankfully).

So far i have experience with S1, S2 and Neptune

S1 gave me ROI in BTC plus some cash (on resale)
S2 gave me ROI in BTC plus some cash (on resale)
Neptune gave me the same $$ on refund, but I used it to buy more BTC than I could have done in Dec because of the drop in BTC value

now I will have S2, S3, and spond's SP-30
we'll see

For context, I was one of the lucky few in the B2 Avalon test shipment.  800W earned ~5BTC/Day, or at the time, $500 a day from one machine.  I paid ~70BTC for it.

Smart move on the Neptune refund, it's what I would have done as well.
