Anyone want p2pmining.com code or Domain?

How Much?!

I'm interested in both!

Me too.

ThiagoCMC, I think we both want it for the same purpose lol. Doing Merged Mining Payouts on our p2pool servers.  Grin

Not only that! But the difficulty adjustments for small miners is a must too! And I have no idea about how to do that...  =P

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/P2Pool

Appending "/1000" to a miner's username will increase the difficulty of producing a P2Pool share to at most 1000. This is useful to large miners because doing this can make it easier for small miners while minimally impacting the large miners themselves. See recommended values.
Appending "+1" (for example) after that will make P2Pool always give your miners work with a difficulty of 1

Is difficulty 1 work low enough for the small miners?
Changing difficulty is already built into p2pool from the miner side.

Wait a minute...Your 2 DNS services got screwed as well as your 2 servers. How does an infection/hacker achieve that? That's like 3 or 4 servers total.
Is there data still on the disks, attacker just making the OS unusable?

The computer I was mining with on your servers won't boot to a desktop. I can't seem to access the HDD, as long as it is connected the system won't boot. I'll see if I can mount the drive after I boot from a live CD.

For Bitcoin to be a true global currency the value of BTC needs always to rise.
If BTC became the global currency & money supply = 100 Trillion then ⊅1.00 BTC = $4,761,904.76.

Probably was running one DNS server on the one VPS, and stored some authentication credentials or certificates on it as well that allowed access to the dedicated box.

Like I said above, I would recommend that you obtain the disks to see what's up.

um... shouldn't that wiki read "at least" instead of "at most"?

Setting /1000 will force p2pool to look for diff 1000 work, unless current diff is higher.

Looks like the hacker transfered 10 bitcoins from the wallet on the server. See transaction: http://blockchain.info/tx-index/12297515/8aa9fbe5d23519d0525a8f232cf60ce9ade710919a31a897b52faba04ebc05a1

18cfVDzcLQ91Xe4yGEs8uJFtHZUiZhmdks was the bitcoin address p2pmining was mining to.

Looks like the culprit formatted the harddrive to hide his tracks.  Server won't even boot, just goes to grub prompt.

He can't hide his tracks by formatting, all of the data is still present. Wiping is a different story, but I don't know what access he would need for wiping.

Looks like safer way is to mine to different address that is on local bitcion. This way even when someone hacks server he not have proper wallet to get funds.

think they said hacker only got away with ~10btc... the big problem is the killing of the site.

Sad story. I really liked this project.
Hope all your work won't be wasted and pool resurrected...

Mine with your Bitcoins: www.facebook.com/pyramining (always active links)
Exchange all your altcoins on Vircurex (smaller fee from that link)

Perhaps in the future you let the server bitcoind p2pool mine to a wallet that isn't on the server. You can specify any address. Dump the payouts as a file and run them all somewhere else.

Is anyone owed any coins or was this your loss jay?

Still investigating...

You know, I find it somewhat ironic.

One of the reasons p2pool exist is to prevent pool instability by the pool owner being dishonest, or hacked.

Then people pop up with their own mini p2pools.

The biggest most popular goes under by a hack.   For a lousy 10btc.

Sad

M

I mine at Kano's Pool because it pays the best and is completely transparent!  Come join me!

But, it wasn't p2pool that was hacked, it was the website that was.

Could someone connecting to the pool as a user use that in an attempt to hide unauthorized access, make it less suspicious.

@JayCoin
Are there any updates about the attack?
When was the backup which you did closest to the hack?
Are the backups stored offsite?
Do hosting companies make daily images for just such an occurrence?
What happened to the namecoins and other altcoins?

The ⊅10 is still just sitting there not moving. Greed wasn't the motivation.
http://blockchain.info/address/1FZuDJRYyKwStMzNQ4TLpkWUoQJGic5Hvi

JayCoin was already determining whether to shut down the pool, the attacker made the decision occur sooner.
The attack was meant to penalize this particular pools users.
JayCoin didn't seem that keen on using his own pool, this says to me he had little confidence in his own product, as he often mined elsewhere.

It would be nice to see this subpool live on, vive la p2pool!

It was a fun experiment.  I didn't get much info from Hostgator or Hivelocity.  The just said that the VPS image was corrupt and that the last backup was of the corrupt image so it wouldn't do any good.  Hivelocity let me ssh to a live image so that I could recover some stuff.  I recovered the wallet and it still had 5 bitcoins on it.  The live image is still active if anyone has any suggestions for figuring this stuff out.  I know I was testing and doing some mysql stuff accross servers without SSL so that might have been the attack vector they used.  Being able to intercept packets like that seems very difficult without some inside information.
