Well, I was starting to give p2pmining a tryout with one of my miners, but hit a snag.

I never have payouts come to my wallet, instead redirecting them all to my exchange deposit addresses, so I can't sign to set up the alt-coin addys.

Would it be feasable to add a BTC section on the 'register merged mining' screen so I could use my own addy with my miner, which I can sign with, but have the BTC sent to the other addy similar to how the alt-chains get sent to their own addy's?

Otherwise, I'll just have to give up on my tryout Sad

-- Smoov

PM JayCoin and see what he could do. You may not be the only miner with that issue.  Wink

For Bitcoin to be a true global currency the value of BTC needs always to rise.
If BTC became the global currency & money supply = 100 Trillion then ⊅1.00 BTC = $4,761,904.76.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I can see where you would want that function.  I will try to implement that as soon as possible.  Probably by the end of the weekend.

What is the LTC payout set at?

0.5 LTC confirmed is the payment threshold. Same as Bitcoin.

Couldn't sleep, so I added ability to change the payout address for bitcoin payments by signing it with your miner's address.  It's on the register merged mining tab.  This was requested by Smoov.

Problem with p2pool code last night.  There was some down time last night when the p2pool code started freaking out.  Had to update a couple times while forrestv was pushing out patches.  Litecoin pool will need to get updated tonight.

Litecoin p2pool server is open for business.

Point Litecoin miner at p2pmining.com:9327

There is no changing share difficulty with this pool.

Can this go in the first post? I get tired of trying to find it when I have to restart my mining and need the details.

I grew tired of the comm problems with p2pmining.  It's my backup now.

I think I had an epiphany.

I spent some time this morning watching cgminer on both my miners.  I watched them mine against p2pmining, and then compared the results against when running against my local pool.  I dug out the cgminer docs to see what all the values mean on the screen, and if I'm interpreting this right, I'm wasting resources trying to mine on p2pmining.  Maybe I'm missing something, which is why I'm posting this here.

First of all, efficiency.  On p2pmining, I never saw above 10%.  I was lucky if I saw 5%.  On one miner, I'm at 125%, on another, I'm at 43%.  From the cgminer docs:

E:   The Efficiency defined as number of shares returned / work item

Second of all, utility.  From the cgminer docs:

U:   The Utility defined as the number of shares / minute

On p2pmining, for one box I was around 4/m, on the other 7/m.  Locally, I'm at 8.8/m and 24.6/m respectively.

And of course rejects.  I'm at 1% or lower locally.  I've been around 10% on p2pmining.

Yes, p2pmining gives merged mining.  But it seems to me merged mining on almost worthless currency, compared to btc, doesn't come close to compensating for the efficiency I'm getting from mining locally on my own pool.  And I already have a namecoin server up and running that my local pool is pointed against, and nmc seems to be by far the most valuable of the other currencies.

Am I missing something, or does it seem like I'm wasting resources mining on p2pmining?  I've got about 2.4g/h, with about 100m/h being routed right now to p2pmining as backup as cgminer dictates.

It appears that P2Pmining.com is down by 12 GH/s because some bigger miners feel similar, less profit at this P2Pool subPool.
Quote
Hashrate:   11 GH/s
Seven Day PPS:   0.00001857 BTC
The PPS is about 40% lower than what is possible based on difficulty.  Shocked  Cry

Yes, but 2 weeks ago we had an exceptional high PPS. That's the typical variance on this type of mining. On the long term it doesn't matter too much because it will average. And this is better than the real PPS because it includes transactions, which in the end will be the only reward. So, in the long term, you're better on p2pool.

Maybe JayCoin can include a longer PPS average?

P2Pmining has the same luck as p2pool.  Cgminer is notorious for reporting pool is not serving work fast enough even on the fastest of pool server.

P2Pmining runs on a dedicated server in a datacenter in Florida. It is a Xeon quad core processor with 100mbit link.  I don't know why anyone should be having connection issues.

P2Pmining total hashrate does not effect variance or payout for miners using it.  Variance is based upon total hashrate of P2Pool.

P2Pmining is a free P2Pool server

You will always connect faster to a server right next to you than one that is half way across the country.

Efficiency in CGMINER has nothing to do with actual efficiency of the pool.  It has to do with the getwork requests vs. submitted shares.

Go to http://p2pmining.com:9332/static/ and look at efficiency there. That is how well p2pmining is doing vs. the rest of p2pool servers. Currently P2Pmining is at 119.5%.  Compare this with your local p2pool server and use the one with the higher efficiency.  Server connection to P2Pool nodes is as important as server connection to miners.

Every time I started my miner on p2pmining.com my DOA rate would go up to +10% and then come back down to around 4% indicating that hopping on and off P2Pmining.com would cause higher DOA rates.

The estimated PPS stat is a very rough estimate.  It swings above and below the mathmatical pps value (Currently 0.00002884).  It just shows how variable luck is.

I hope this helps understand why mining on p2pmining.com is the way it is.

Thanks for playing.

weirdest thing - been using this sucessfulyl for a few weeks now without issue. today i hooked up a new vid card, and when trying ot connect a guiminer using poclbm to this, it fails. error message "at least one server is required." yet my other miner, which is running on my nvidia card through ufasoft's miner, works fine with p2pmining.com. for a lark i tried phoenix - that worked too, however through poclbm in guiminer i get a good 20 mhash more.

any ideas what's going on?

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

Hi Jay.  Please don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing your pool.  You did a great job.  Unless I'm missing something, however, it just isn't for me.

I understand local cgminer efficiency doesn't mean anything.  It's the shares/min that I think is the clincher.

I don't think pool efficiency is as critical as you make it out to be either.  I'm at 111.1% efficiency right now, you're at 123.1%.

I don't pretend to understand the math behind how all this works.  But I can do simple math, and as they say, show me the money.

As of right now, if p2pool finds a block, I'll get 0.38489903 from my local pool, plus a tiny amount from your pool.  Your pool's reward would be 1.77866879.

For me to get the equivalent btc from your pool, I'd have to be 21.65% of the hash rate of your pool.  I know your pool has varied a lot today, so this isn't as straight forward as I'm making it out to be, but I think it proves the point.

Right now I'm at 2.1g/h local.  You're at 12.1g/h.  If I put my 2.1g/h in your pool (which I can't, cgminer always directs 500-1000m/h to me), you'd be at 14.2g/h, and I'd be 14.79% of your pool.  Assuming you'd still get 1.78 btc (it'd be higher, I know), I'd get .263 btc.  Plus a few almost worthless fractions of other almost worthless currencies.

If I did my math right (and I may be way off somewhere), I'm doing 30% better by mining locally.  The merged mining isn't going to come close to compensating for that.

In other words, all things being equal, if I could feed your server as fast as mine, yours would be better because of the merged mining.  But I can't.

In summary, unless completely I'm missing something fundamental about this process, the only reason someone should use a pool like yours is if they are right beside it, OR they can't/don't want to setup their own local pool, OR one of the merged mining currencies becomes valuable (and they can't merged mine it locally).

Did I completely miss the ball here?

On the long term it doesn't matter too much because it will average. So, in the long term, you're better on p2pool.
In the past 90 days it averages 10% below average, but if that's OK...well, OK.

Maybe JayCoin can include a longer PPS average?
What we needs is better metrics, gozinta and gozouta is a good beginning.

I have only used p2pool:
My current daily average = ⊅0.66846 per Gigahash
The current expected ⊅BTC for the difficulty 1733208 is ⊅0.58016 per Gigahsh
My daily average is 15.24% better than the current expected payout.

The total network is producing ⊅7450 per 24hrs for 11.91 TH/s. How many ⊅ per GH/s is that?
http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/
Edit: It's ⊅0.62552 per GH/s. Wink
That means the total network is paying out 8.4% better than expected. I didn't expect the network to be having so much good luck. Hmm.

For Bitcoin to be a true global currency the value of BTC needs always to rise.
If BTC became the global currency & money supply = 100 Trillion then ⊅1.00 BTC = $4,761,904.76.
