Received my 2 S3s yesterday.  They have been happily hashing away at 440 and 460 stock.  Guess I need to overclock and see what happens.  I've seen a range of opinions on overclocking these.  How have the later batches been?  These are Batch 5.

random  your 460 will probably do over 500 at 250

How is that Lexical analysis working out bickneleski?

So some of my miners require a restart about every 12-17 hours - they occasionally show up with the dreaded "x" but then upon a restart they are all good to go,

I'm really tired of having to restart them with the gui,  is there anyone out there that can help me with an automated reboot option in the

"Scheduled Tasks
This is the system crontab in which scheduled tasks can be defined."

that i can save and autorestart the miners - once or twice a day lets say

12midnight and 12 midday?

Regards

loki.

I just added this to scheduled tasks under existing line
0  8  *   *   *     /sbin/reboot
0  20  *   *   *     /sbin/reboot

Others suggest this
0 8,20 * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer restart

Restart being safer, but reboot is quicker. I really see the drop off in my hashing graph with restart, but not with reboot.

restart only restarts the cgminer process  reboot does a complete reboot of the os

Both of your cron entries are correct for 8 am and pm, the question was for every  12 hours

You obviously haven't seen the projected numbers for the next difficulty adjustment. Doom AND gloom! And it's really going to screw up that nice chart.

lol 50 ph in variance Smiley

Just to make it clear for you how many times has the network gone to say 50k from 100k. If you think the actual hashrate is varying? ( yes it will vary if someone brings new equipment online or takes it off, or chips vary slightly. )  That isn't luck lol.

You are not going to see for example your home hardware spiking from 440 ( on an s3 ) to 660 and to 220 for any length of time, much less everyone's at once.

Made me smile though.

I guess you're not aware that network hashrate and individual miner hashrate are not calculated in the same way. Your S3 (or whatever miner you're using) submits shares to a pool to estimate it's hashrate. The network hashrate is estimated by how many blocks are solved in a period of time.

Blocks solved has nothing to do with determine your miner's hashrate and everything to do with calculating the network hashrate.

Good luck (lots of blocks solved quickly) will make the network hashrate look like it's rising rapidly. Bad luck, vice versa. Sandwich a period of very good luck between two period of bad luck... there's your 50PHs spike.

As I said before, the network hashrate is indeed growing... I'm not denying that at all. But people have to quit shitting their pants every time they see a spike on a graph.

Nevertheless it's good results for Bitmain. How many units are in a batch? 1000? Or less?

I have an "ROI" question.  When you all calculate your return, are you considering the fair market value of your miners/PSU's etc.  The reason I ask is that I have purchased 15 miners (1 Avalon, 7 S1s and 7 S3s) and sold 8 (just have the S1s  Edit: I meant I just have the S3s now). After electricity cost, PSU cost, WiFi antenna cost, and everything else I can think of, I have an ROI of ~13% in 5 months (~31% annualized) when I consider the current fair market value of the hardware I currently own.  To me, this is a GREAT ROI...what am I missing?

Fair market value of the used miner is the value of BTC it will mine before being turned off after hitting electricity cost/mined BTC equilibrium. It doesn't matter if you will mine it yourself, or sell to someone other to do it, the value is the same. So to answer your question: The value of the used miner It's not calculated into ROI because it doesn't affect ROI in any way.

Funny how the s3 sells out like hotcakes yet the return running 445 gh is little to none and the next difficulty change will kill off any returns whats so ever, are people stupid or what?

I have 2 questions about the Antminer:

1. Does it matter if i only use 2 powerplugs instead of 4?

2. currently my miner only hashes at max 200GH/S is this due to the power or should i check the some other things?

Thnx in advanced
