Related: I have 5 S3's collecting dust because the data center deal fell through on a commercial insurance-related issue, and I have no more space left in my house as I'm drawing ~8kW for mining already. *grumbles* Guess I'll have to decommission either some A1's or BitFury gear. Haven't decided yet. *grumbles* /r/firstworldproblems

No problem, send them over to me and I take care they find a nice new home here!  Grin

The Eighth Batch of AntMiner S3+

Only Available at http://www.bitmaintech.com

Bitmain now announce the S3+, which is a revised version of S3 running stably at 453GH/s (frequency=225 MHz), while consumes 355 Watt power at the wall. Most of miners will be able to run up to 500GH/s but not guaranteed.

AntMiner S3+ for sales shipping starts on September 20th or earlier

S3 is a great success product and almost sold out. The sale of S3+ is 0.58 BTC each including the international shipping, which starts on September 20th, 2014 or earlier. Sales open in the Beijing Time tonight 22:00 (UCT+8:00 Time Zone).

We strongly believe it is best choice of mining bitcoin for both the mining farm and the home miners.

So hows this diff from my B5, better firmware ?

They set the factory clock to 225M after the guinea pigs (i.e. batches 1-7 S3 buyers) successfully tested and confirmed that they can be stable up to 250M.  I think that's the only difference.

restart only restarts the cgminer process  reboot does a complete reboot of the os

Both of your cron entries are correct for 8 am and pm, the question was for every  12 hours

Geez, difficult much? LOL

I see that the question was 12 now.  Didn't see your post before I posted mine, so chill.

I see restart affecting my hash line (trail off in hash graph). I do not see the same thing with reboot, so I question what you are saying. This works for me. That is all.

Well, as others have expressed in here, Bitmain's business model is now becoming BS.

AM is back on business @1,2btc/Th and in massive quantities tho

That's true, and IIRC FC said his goal is to drive the competition into unprofitable territory.  As in he's going to undercut everyone so badly that they all go out of business.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out--I look forward to AM's new gear.

Where do you see it (AM gear), apart from rocket box and XBTEC? I see only github announcements on their facebook?

Re Bitmain-they will adapt to whatever competition shows. right now-not much, hence higher prices.
This should increase prices in the aftermarket (good for those with S3 already).

How much power your S3 uses on CX750M or CX500M?

at 237.5 one S3 uses 402-406W at the wall
at 218.75 another S3 uses 375W at the wall
according to kill-a watt at ~116V (US)

These numbers seem higher than what's posted, maybe the difference between bronze and gold or platinum PSU?

I use HX850 with 2 ants and it is exactly 700w @118v running at 218.75

Back when I was doing scrypt it was common to do solo.  I'm assuming nobody does solo on BTC or?  because if I hit a block doing solo with current calc i would net 25 btc which would be 3 times the amount I paid for the 12 devices.  I'm doing 5.5thash now that i'm all oc'ed.  If i stick with a pool forever then I have zero chance of making 25 btc.  If I go solo and have some luck then within ~180 days I might hit one...

Any thoughts here on solo mining?

Also consider that ambient room temperature is also a factor.  These are some of the data that I was able to jot down from an S3/CX500 combo using a Kill A Watt at 121V:

Legend: Tamb/Ts3/Watts

@ 212.5M
28C/41C/347W
29C/41C/347W
34C/44C/352W

@ 218.75M (stock)
27C/41/358W
28C/42/358W
30C/42C/361W
35C/45C/365W

@ 225M
30C/42C/373W
34C/45C/378W
35C/45C/378W

@ 237.5M
29C/42C/398W
32C/43C/400W

@ 250M
28C/42C/423W/486GHs
29C/43C/425W/485GHs

The current session which was started over nine hours ago is at 225M and at an ambient temperature of 33.7C is drawing 377W at the wall with an S3 temperature of 45C.

Eyeballing the above data, it seems the delta is around 11C which I consider to be excellent especially for a very hot machine doing 24/7 but YMMV.

Hiya guys,

Im having an issue with one of my Batch 5 ant miner - one side of the ASIC chips are not working correctly - showing all xx's across the board.
The others i have work fine, I've opened the machine and everything looks good to my eye!

I have emailed bitmaintech a few times since delivery but no reply, any idea if they will actually reply or should i cut my losses, and ditch this company as a supplier for me?

any help on a fix would be great as i doubt ill have a reply from bit main tech!

Cheers guys!

When your done OC'ing (editing the file) it says to reboot the system.

When back at the command line in PuTTy, can you do like a sudo reboot to reboot the system ?

To be decided...

The ones I have now are barely stable at 218.75.
