Just read the Reddcoin PoSV whitepaper -- it's an interesting model.

https://www.reddcoin.com/papers/PoSV_FAQ.pdf

It looks like CCN CannaCoin is also trying to go to ReddCoins PoSV. If you have any problems during the switch, I'm sure they will help you if they can. They're into collaborating and helping others.

That's good intel!  Thanks for the heads up!

One of the things that I'm considering in my IDCoins project is an 80/20 POS/POW system that would put more coins into the economy via TXFEE's -- that would encourage POW mining.

Might be interesting to do with Givecoins as well...

Gotta have a coin that is transacting and not being hoarded for the sole benefit of miners and investors IMHO

The whitepaper is visible (while I'm working on it) at:

http://bit.ly/idcoins

That's an interesting idea to allow mining for txfees.  I've talked to a few people about that and we've discussed it internally a bit.  We are always open to working together with other developers to achieve common goals and learn from each other.

Here's the CCN-REDD github we are working on:  https://github.com/Cannacoin-Project/ccn-redd

Thanks for the props on the mining for fee's idea!  And the link...

The IDCoins model is meant to put the bulk of the coin transactions as TXFEE's in order to express sentiment for reputational events.

if you want to give someone a +5 rating you send 1 coin to the address and 5 as a TXFEE -- same goes for negative feedback -- you dust the address with anything less than .50000000 (nuetral) and 1-N coins as TXFEE to express whatever level of displeasure you want with the event.

Fundamentally I think the core minimum TXFEE has been broken since Satoshi put it in -- it should be based on a PERCENTAGE -- so if a coinbase had a nominal 2% fee and a 5% POS stake it would reward holders and miners.

Hi TheLittleDuke, how r u? so, now yr coin in the same shit, like a month ago? Even do not help yr rented hashes? But I dont understand one thing: if only u mine yr coin, why the price is going down?!? I remeber that u buy and sell yourself, because afraid delisting Bittrex! But why u  going down the price when the diff is too high, or the price is low=low fee? Or this is real people selling now to hope to back they money at any price?

CCN got their coin PoSV testnet done. They're switching in a week or two.

We hope to finalize the design and implementation details this coming week when Dahozer get's back from his family farm on Monday or Tuesday.

We're very curious to see how the PoSV approach works since it is our intent to "do this right once not do it over twice"

Once the new message board and bug tracking sites are online we plan to put the proposed changes to a vote.

Looks like the DNS may have expired for the givecoin.info zone file

I'm attempting to contact "dasource" who hosted it previously.

Otherwise we'll spin up clone of it shortly since it was based on ABE

Exchanges are jerks. They should provide all kinds of tools like block explorers and merchant solutions for coins. I would rather see a model where a coin pays a monthly fee to be listed on an exchange/web wallet/block explorer/merchant solution website.

There are so many exchanges. The cryptocoin community should pressure them to be better than they are today.

Snort.  "Haters gonna hate"

Actually https://doabitofgood.com just inked a deal with http://watchmybit.com to provide Givecoins as a bonus to their video paywall system so that people who watch videos will receive Givecoins.

Dahozer (aka Troy B of Catcoin fame) and I met last night to finalize the next release for Givecoin.

https://bitbucket.org/dahozer/catoshi

We've decided on three new primary changes, in order are:

1. Dump the KGW (Kimoto Gravity Well) implementation which is broken and easy to exploit by multi-pools in favor of a new MINIMUM BLOCK EMIT time function that would basically reject any empty blocks until a minimum time has passed

2. Replace the TXFEE from a fixed amount to represent a PERCENTAGE

3. A Proof of Stake variant TBD

The POS component will be the last change and we want to evaluate the POSV implementation in Reddcoin as well as a couple of other ideas, mainly in preparation for a Delegated Proof of Stake system that would allow for an Electrum style wallet to do staking without having the full chain downloaded.

A couple of other concepts on the back burner are a "stake or die" system that would expire coins that have not staked in say one year, to encourage continued participation in the GIVE economy as well as a form of "Proof of Giving" and a "Proof of Storage" system that shifts the power to be more efficient vs brute force NONCE guessing.

We have yet to determine the ease and viability of merging the codebase into the cool fork that Dahozer did to allow "catcoin" / "solarcoin" / "urocoin" to be built from the same codebase from a compile time switch.  This is clearly a trend and something that should be seriously considered.

We have engaged with the developers of http://tendermint.com to explore implementing their ideas as an alternative to the Proof of Stake model that was implemented in Clean Water Coin.

Check it out!  The white paper is very compelling.

Yeah, have been working with the Tendermint team to help define how there system can support any chain by using the genesis.json file to act as the "contract" for the underlying chain (total coinbase, emit time, et al)

We're also working through our 501.3c status in the US to become a federally recognized non-profit through our Strength in Numbers Foundation.

We continue to acquire coins on bittrex.com as well for our reserves for https://doabitofgood.com

That's what I know today.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have been on vacation and have been digging out from being out of the loop.

If you're client doesn't sync I'm not sure how you would get transaction confirmations.

I would suggest doing an "addnode" to the Do A Bit Of Good public peering node:

Unfortunately I think the problem isn't just on my side...  Embarrassed

Bittrex has also recorded no new block for > 5700 minutes. https://bittrex.com/Status
My client did sync after waiting for a day or two but the transactions I made on Feb 2 are still not getting any confirmation on Bittrex.
The domain of explorer.givecoin.info has also expired too.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll take a look to see what we can do to reprovision our development miners back to the primary network.

I can report that formal development has begun on flipping to POS with a possible POW component.

We're currently targeting make the flip at 250M coins.

We will also make our explorer public.
