wccftech.com in the tech world is well known for it's clickbait articles that are nothing but rumors. never take anything they write seriously without verification. I wouldn't doubt it's a paid for article. This is an interesting narrative. And one I have not proven myself. I have heard it is more true on asian dark net servers. But I would think the latest addition of Monero at Dream (I think?) would fly in the face of this a little. Dark net vendors are getting more savvy little by little. Asians as a whole have generally used LTC than their western counterparts. Will this protocol change affects botnets mining? And if it affects that, does it means hashing power will dive at least for some time around fork period? Will there be a chance of a chain split because these "70% unknown" hash power comes from botnets and that they might not just switch the software version promptly, leaving and old "ghost" chain burning power and taking some unaware souls? It is meant to prevent ASIC miners. There was speculations that someoen build ASIC miner so if that is the case then mining hash power should reduce. I think there is little chances for that. Also if that is the case, those that have ASIC miners will now start an offensive against this change. Since with this change will lose their advantage. No one can tell how many hash power comes from bootnets. Can be 99%. Botnets operators can easily join any pool. So as any miner can mine solo or on private pool. On that pie 70% was marked as unknown only because maker of that pie know names of pools that do only 30% of hashpower . If he would do homework a bit better could easily add few % more. Saying "because these "70% unknown" hash power comes from botnets" is simply wrong. Ok, but you answered none of my points... I actually want to know if it will impact on botnet mining (not if it was target for that). And also, I agree that it is not right to say that 70% are indeed botnet, which I didn't. I may have expressed myself bad, but what I meant was: "IF a great part of that 70% unknown hash rate DO comes from botnets and that botnets are mining using old code, will we have any hash power break down upon update?" Effecting Botnets is not a stated goal AFAIK, so it would be tough to know until the code is out and tested.

XMR will come in better places for the price. The price of bitcoin has started to rise again and I think that XMR will be good places. We are waiting for the beautiful days.

What if someone forks Monero then breaks security, does it reveal all?
Depends how many keys they collect. As far as I can see, this is just a data harvesting attempt, or a cash grab. OK so they can only effect their future transactions? great Any keys you give up to claim coins discloses all past transaction data from that wallet. Any transaction on the new chain compromises the ring signature for both chains. Not sure if stupid, greedy, or malicious, maybe they are all of the above. Just let it wither and die. I know some will trade their own grandmother for 10 cents, and you just can't reach those people. But anyone responsible and forward thinking (Monero hodlers?) will have nothing to do with cheesy poofs forks.

Any news when Monero mobile wallet will be released, currently it is very difficult to send XMR payment on the go.
Finally! I've been waiting for this for long time. We really need this. And we need monero on more hardware wallets really. One would be a fine start... ROTFLMFAO! Latest update I have on RFC-HWallet (I was getting spammed with all the updates so turned them off). https://taiga.getmonero.org/project/michael-rfc-hwallet-1-implementation/task/21Sweet Pr0n shot. This is an interesting narrative. And one I have not proven myself. I have heard it is more true on asian dark net servers. But I would think the latest addition of Monero at Dream (I think?) would fly in the face of this a little. Dark net vendors are getting more savvy little by little. Litecoin has historically been best positioned to absorb spillover from obsolete use cases excluded by Bitcoin's rise to power. When Bitcoin was too slow for Bitpay to work (Xmas shopping season) I used Litecoin instead because it was the only option I wouldn't feel dirty touching (ETH? Nope. Bcash? LOL git rekt. Dash? Oh Hell naw!). Despite my disdain for Vitalik's Bailout Fork, ETH has inserted/cemented itself into the primary spillover capture role ahead of Litecoin, but I expect LTC to make a comeback due to Lightning, cross-chain atomic swaps, and greater reliability/fungibility/decentralization proving its superior long-term fundamentals. It's good for Monero that Litecoin is helping us break up the Bitcoin/Ethereum duopoly. Once a market relents from its Bitcoin maximalist supremacist monopolist (or 'Muh Flippening') paradigm there is no more protectionism and every coin must compete for users based on its own merits. That means cheap tx fees, quick confirms, low withdrawals fees, and extra features such as privacy. I concur, competition is good for innovation. But that article is bullshit. Now how do we find out how long they have been Burn testing these. I wonder if this will speed the POS timeline or lengthen it? My main fear with Monero is that the government just bans exchanges from listing Monero. Sure you can use it, but there will be almost no place where you can exchange it for fiat (except meeting in a shady alley with a hooded guy bringing cash for your Moneros ). The US Gov (which I'm guessing is what you mean) has banned exchanges and they have survived so that right there tells you what will happen. What if someone forks Monero then breaks security, does it reveal all?

All you guys that are just going to dump just make sure to move your funds to a new wallet before the snapshot and then again after.

Good point. For some reason I assumed it was already done. Watch the blocks fill up Too much hassle tho, to dig up the cold storage.

now we see a exciting and huge increase in ethereum classic because of the upcoming fork in the beginning of May. We will see a similar increase in Monero because Monero will have a fork named MoneroV in the middle of March. All should accummulate some Monero before getting late for price soaring soon
WOW you really called that ETC dump! Oh wait you said buy?

Pre-fork: A -> B On Fork: B -> exchange -> dump On Monero: B -> C -> A Does that mitigate the problem? No. Because your transaction of "B -> exchange" will use several ring signature partners and your transaction "B -> C" will use several ring signature partners and both of those transactions will have one ring signature partner in common, and that one partner in common will be you. The only way to do it safely is to have all of the ring signature partners the be the same for both transactions and there does not currently exist any function inside of monero to choose specific ring signature partners.

I have found it quite easy to sell xmr for monetary consideration. My buyers have worn khakis and oxfords, or suits and wingtips, and met me on a water taxi (New Jersey waters) or a hotel lobby in Denver. Gender split has been 80% male, 20% female. Anyhow, selling seems like a bad idea, in general. Use it, then replenish. I wonder if Monero makes a good Valentine's gift. Perhaps, for a certain demographic. Regarding monerov, I'd like to see all the nodes DDOSed as fast as they can be discovered. Not that I would do that myself of course, but it would be fun to see.

I think those Lizard Squad kiddies are still selling DDOS cheap. Just saying, not that I condone these type of things. I wonder if Monero makes a good Valentine's gift. It follows pretty obvious from how mining works that you shouldn't be mining at all in place with high electricity costs (i.e. much of Europe) unless you are doing it with the understanding that you are losing money (to support the network, as a way to get coins, etc.)

Would it be wise to long XMR now on Bitfinex and sell before the fork? Does anyone know the date of the fork?
Will there be exchanges supporting it or should I definetly send it to my own wallet? I feel too lazy for these things.

Is that a drop? I think I paid 59 euro in December. Maybe it was 69? I know it went up thereafter. No new version that I'm aware of, just waiting on the the new apps. Now 79 euro from Ledger. About 70 GBP? incl free shipping, looks like a preorder though.
