I am very excited and it's been an amazing experience working on SolarCoin projects this year. Also here is an update to the #solarcoinalphaproject Thank you very much Epiphany and Nick for mentions. It is truely inspirational to work with such a supportive communitiy that the SolarCoin people are with the cool people that founded it and then the great people working from the CCN team and the move to PoS. An update to progress of the Stand-alone Solar system on the balcony #solarcoinalphaproject. Remaining:5) Communication box wiring --> DONE6) Dry test and link to API. --> DONE7) Stability and running for 1-2 weeks. --> ONGOING Writing the white paper --> ONGOINGI am now in academic writing mode. I have another paper to present at WCPEC-6 next week in Kyoto on a similar topic so it is taking my time this week. But I will be writing this solarcoin paper shortly after and uploading it to Solcrypto.com. I have also recently realized that a stand alone self-powered "node" that supports the blockchain is really helpful. Each of the "nodes" are geographically diverse and all they need is an internet connection and the sun. The system that we have made is working on the 7th floor of a downtown Tokyo balcony and it is seriously getting shaded and away from the optimum solar conditions yet I charged my phone off it every few days, and it is running the monitoring infrastructure. I will share a photo here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9_OQXnmZdVmeXp2d2EtUnVXMG95SjNxaDJSZnB6bWt0TmQ0/view?usp=sharingThe exciting news. The software company has said that it is possible to send out automated data packets that are encrypted at 256bit to any server/location or even to an SMS or email. These are the next steps to explore in this proof of concept to connect a stand alone system to the blockchain. -Thank you, lfloorwalker Awesome work!

From the CCN thread: Announcement 11/17/14: PoW -> PoSV Testnet transition a success!
Good news is in! We have successfully simulated and transitioned Scrypt PoW -> PoSV twice over CCN testnet! After hundreds of hours of code review, testing and debugging our peer to peer connections are working, we are generating PoSV blocks and transactions are broadcasting/confirming as expected! This means we've done it! We're getting ready to compile and release a new update/wallet over the coming week or so. You can expect a more formal and detailed announcement to follow in the coming days with exact fork numbers and protocol changes listed.
I am personally extremely excited to bring this change to the CCN community! I am so incredibly proud of alll those involved in making this happen, after this battle I can honestly say the CCN team is a completely new team and each one has proven themselves to be true protocol specialists. Special thanks to the entire CCN dev team (James, Patrick, Phil) and also to our colleagues Kassado and Dfletcher for the invaluable tips and tricks from your experiences with the Redd/POSV codebase. Without everyone contributing this would have not been possible!
Toke up, Cheers! SubCreative
Our upgrade will follow right on its heels.

Great Great news as seen heading in the direction of more and more ambitious I like it! Request for help. SolarCoin needs a 1 page flyer. Here is an earlier version. http://solarcoin.org/forum/download/file.php?id=7&sid=f06f29f4a0ae7a58fa89e26e67a5d8bb generously created by Doug Felman in Visio. Would anyone be interested in creating a new flyer that would be in word or some other common format for translation and ongoing editing. I have a project and some solar developers who are looking for a Spanish and English flyer for home owners. There are also other groups interested in a simple way of sharing and explaining the story. Many high res graphics are available from the solarcoin site. The flyer should convey the what's and how for a solar energy generator and include Proof Stake etc. as a minor point. the basic story is the following. 1. you generate Solar electricity. You are entitled to solarcoin. Each 1MWh generated entitles you to §1. Every 1KW of panels on your roof or farm is entitled to §1.314/Yr of operation going back to Jan 1, 2010 2. Solarcoin is a digital currency that can be traded or spent online..... 3. People who refer others to SolarCoin get 10% of the 1st year claim as a friend of SolarCoin referal reward. 4. There is no cost to claiming SolarCoin and the referal program does not cost the claimant anything. other things a "newbie" with solar only experience might be interested in. Let me know if anyone is interested in taking this on and evolving the current flyer. Nick

Solarcoin (§ SLR) are like airmiles. Each 1 Mhw generated gets you §1 free. Solarcoins can purchase what others will trade: USD,BTC, Soy candles..etc.

I would be willing to help with flyer as well. Decent skills with copy editing, design, PS (no pro either). Will take a look at what's already done and talk to others involved.
Are we looking for something that can be printed at home and handed out or professionally printed? Both?

Ideally both for professional reproduction and easily shared via e-mail and edited by amateurs. Like everything with SolarCoin it will be open source etc.

Ideally both for professional reproduction and easily shared via e-mail and edited by amateurs. Like everything with SolarCoin it will be open source etc. For sure, that way I may be able to use it too; by making a small modification to insert a box to contain a code for giveaway, with an associated url (where the User will go to enter the code and personal wallet id to claim the promotional solarcoins).

I saw the following post on the CCN forum. Good news I imagine the SLR code update/details will follow CCN shortly after their implementation. " Announcements: Finalized POSV Details & release announcement.
Checking in to provide some details on the transition proof-of-stake... We are in the processes of completing Mac, Windows and Linux builds and will have downloads targeted for release Monday.
The details for the new PoSV network will be as follows:
1) 2% Annual Network Staking Interest 2) Coinstake maturity after 70 confirmation 3) 3 Confirms for standard transactions 4) LAST POW BLOCK = 370,000
This update will be a HARDFORK release, ALL clients must be updated PRIOR to block 370,000 in order for you to secure your funds on the CCN network. Please check in regularly in the coming weeks as we move through this transition, there may be important announcements or updates requiring action on your behalf.
Along with the updates we have launched a brand new test network that will provide a simulation of the CCN network for development purposes, this will be accessible at startup using the -testnet flag and will be baked into the original Cannacoin QT/Daemon (no need to download another client). We are also planning a secondary faucet to be utilized for acquiring a good sum of testnet coins for testing & development.
The new code is available for peer review on github, we will be merging this repository into the main Cannacoin repository as a new branch upon release for proper maintainability and historical reference to older versions of the codebase.
https://github.com/Cannacoin-Project/ccn-redd/
Final note, for anyone with questions about "how does the new network work?" we are planning a release of a completed Cannacoin FAQ with lots of details pertaining to the new proof-of-stake model, I should have this completed within the coming days. The FAQ covers a lot of the common questions as well as providing some technical insight into the inner workings of proof-of-stake with velocity.

So given that the current market cap is around 33 million are there about 15 people who hold a million or more SLR? That would be half of the outstanding coins in the hands of a few which is what this coin really needs. This keeps a lot out of circulation.

I would say no, if that were the case we'd be a lot higher than 2000 satoshis. Then again, all it takes is one person with a few hundred thousand coins to keep the price suppressed. After realizing this recently, I accepted I have no control over the price situation, so there isn't much point in worrying about it. It'll work itself out. I'm hoping we can get a block explorer feature soon that shows the top 100 addresses though, that would be nifty data to see.
