Crypto is all about putting new primitives under the most stress possible to test their limits. BCX's attack should be looked on as a positive contribution to the codebase, not a negative.

Exactly.  If BCX wanted to be evil, he would use his exploit to destroy/profit in secret, instead of loudly announcing his intentions and dropping clues.

Unless Monero's social/economic attack surface is being used as an amplifier/catalyst.   Tongue

So it looks like we've got a bit of movement - you may see this in your daemon:

Those connections are being dropped, although 95.215.44.178 is aggressively reconnecting. So far we're not seeing any major issues, except the annoying message showing up each time that peer tries to reconnect.

Mitigation

There will be a new release shortly to ensure this is mitigated. We will continue to monitor to see what else is going on.

TW Attack ! As everyone expected.

Freezing the deposits and withdrawals doesn't stop the exchange transactions from accumulating on the mixed up chains.

Can you please clarify what you mean by "exchange transactions" above?

Someone wrote that trading wasn't suspended. But I brain farted. Sorry I really should sleep.

BCX why not attack moneroman88 instead of XMR? No I'm serious. Couldn't you make his head explode or something if you inject enough hash-power?
I'm confident we can easily figure out how to brute-force his head. There must be so many flaws there it shouldn't be too hard finding a plug and then...unleash the flow... making his brain crash, rollbacked to infancy, forked to complete memory-loop, or even maybe steal his soul with a spirit-killer algorithm.

That would be something. There, for real, you would be a hero. XMR is not a proper prize.
