I dont want to send anything back , unless you think its broken

What does Zombie mean? does it mean its broken and cant be fixed? Is there anything I can do to ensure that it stays mining and not saying ZOMBIE ?

I have an antminer u3
7 port Powered USB HUB, with AC adapter
ZADIG 2.1.1
CGMINER 4.8.0

I actually also had this problem at the beginning. After removing the powered hub between the antminer and my Raspbian, it stopped displaying Zombie in the cgminer

That's a good idea. Going zombie on these is typically due to some form of interruption, the most common being power / USB power related.

Hello i need help, I have tried so many different bat file codes and nothing seems to work right. I have restarted my computer, installed/reinstalled, everything i can think of. I am using windows 7 64bit.
I follwed Dogie's guide as well. Downloaded the antminer version of cgminer, the regular 4.8, i came to this board because im at the end of my rope.

This is the code i have had the most luck with-
cgminer.exe --bmsc-options 115200:0.65   -o stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u Iskavan_Icarus -p 123  --bmsc-voltage 0800 --bmsc-freq 1306

it actually doesnt just shut down cgminer, it starts the volt and freq . . . . then shutsdown.

Below is a screenshot of what happens just before it shuts down/crashes. I have followed every guide ive found, ive been trying to get this thing to work since 6am this morning. Note i also tried to get it working on my raspberry Pi B+ with raspbian. No luck what so ever, if you could help me with getting it to work on both windows and my raspberry that would be amazing, but just getting it going on windows is more than enough . .  im just so tired.

Using cgminer 4.9 here are the options that get me 61GH consistently
--au3-freq 245 --au3-volt 785

Just running at stock (cgminer with no options) I only get about 42 GH.

I now have two of these running on one computer that are averaging 121 GH/s using those options.
After burning through nearly half a dozen 12v 6A Power bricks I went to powering my U3's from an ATX PSU.
Works good, however you should note that you can run a maximum of 1 U3 from a single Sata power connector and 2 U3's from a 4-pin molex power connector. (Try running 3 and the wires will melt).

Spent more than enough time playing with these little miners. Now to get my hands on an S5. Smiley

Are you saying that the window physically closes after that point? If so, it sounds more so that an antivirus program is closing what it perceives to be a threat - I've had the same.

I got a U3 for Christmas and after tinkering for a few hours under the tree yesterday, it's happily hashing at ~56GH/s. I settled on an RPi running the cgminer build from the most recent Minera img. I let it run overnight and there doesn't seem to be any major issues. However, there are a few specific questions I have that I wasn't able to dig up answers for.

1. Has anyone come up with some general thresholds (safety/stability) for the voltage and frequency settings? I'm messing around with the stock equipment until I can integrate into my mining rig back at school.

2. Is there any way to forces PWM values to the fan controller? The fan runs at a sluggish RPM and I'm past the point of letting miner fans bother me. I'd prefer to crank it up and cool things down.

3. What causes the fluctuation of the hash rate? Over a 15 minute period, it'll bounce around the 35-70GH/s range. I see the same thing with my big rig, but I've never looking into the cause.

Thanks!

1) Anything higher than 800, even 800, is considered high regarding voltage.
2) Not that I know of
3) Are you reading the hash rate miner or side or pool side? If its miner side I wouldn't be too fussed, even pool side as long as the longer term average is good. Setting a lower difficulty would even out some of the random effects.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I decided to pop the case open and peek inside and it doesn't look like PWM control is an option. If I had to guess, the miner uses thermostatic control to prevent overheating. The fan header being used is a 3-pin so I think the only way to gain control with the same kind of granularity as PWM would be to build a voltage regulator for it. This would be more work than one miner is worth.

I was looking as both sides but like you said, the long term average is fine. I was just curious about what the behavior is indicative of. I'll try messing around with diff setting.

Mine goes ZOMBIE about once per day. Sometimes twice in one day, sometimes it runs for 2 days straight. Is it a defective unit or not? I use CGminer 4.9.0 with no options. Plugged directly into a USB port on my desktop PC.

No. Good old 2.0. No one ever said USB 3.0. was a requirement.

There are lots of small, annoying things which can make it go zombie as there only has to be a very brief interruption for it to kick out. It might be you're using USB 3.0, or using it via a powered USB hub, or not using it via a powered USB hub, or the power supply overheats / flickers. Or, the product itself could be flickering to the point that its 'faulty'. Either way, you're free to return the product for replacement to our US base.

Thanks. As a point of reference, the Ant U2's in the same type of USB ports NEVER go Zombie. The only difference is that they don't have a power supply.
I will return it, but I believe I need an RMA #, right? I'll send it to the CO location.

Disabled antivirus downloaded bitmain cgminer and tried again, still same problem.

Yes, cgminer shutdowns as soon as the 2nd freq shows up, i never get to the actual mining thingy.

Are you starting it by cgminer.exe or a .bat file? If its a .bat file, add stop to the end so it will pause and give you the error screen before it closes.

stop

and i tried echo stop, and stop directly at the end of this, still closes i manages to take a screenshot real quick and it just said stop was unrecognizable or something like that.

My bad, "pause". It will tell us which bit of the .bat is wrong.
