I did not leave anyone out to dry.
What makes you think that the dumping *prior* to the start of this smear campaign was related to some trolls making up a pile of internet trash?
But the real issue here is the matter of my "having your backs." I'm done nannying the XC community. Nannying doesn't respect you as adults and it places an intolerable tax on my time.
The general expectation that people have some sort of right to information that'll help allay their fears is unfounded. I'm absolutely sick of being made to respond to every little piece of useless nonsense that's somehow made someone in the community worried.
Think independently. Recognise internet trash for what it is and ignore it. Do not stoop to the level of trolls by retaliating. If you can't master your fears then just get out.
Looks like I hit a bit of a sensitive spot, eh Synechist?
Please, don't suggest that I'm not thinking independently. Thinking independently is precisely what I am doing and I am very, very good at it.
The dumping prior to the start of all of this FUD could very well have been those privy to the fact that this FUD campaign was coming exiting their position in preparation for what was to come. The dumping could very well have also been entirely unrelated to this FUD campaign.
My point here is that you and the XC team supposedly knew about this campaign weeks ago and not once in any form did you alert the XC community in advance.
Perhaps you might have considered making a general statement such as this:
"We've been made aware of a coordinated FUD campaign being organized against XC, Dan, and the BlockNET. Please be aware and brace yourselves."
Making such an alert and perhaps even a pre-emptive statement (edit: I know you tried to make a pre-emptive statement, but at that point the FUD had already hit and it was far too little far too late) may very well have significantly limited the damage incurred by this FUD campaign. I have to wonder why you chose to keep this information to yourselves and why you seem to have had very little coordinated defense prepared. You knew this was coming and thought the best defense was to just let it hit like a rock?
It all seems very odd.
I especially want to hear from infinitechaos as I've noticed that he seems to be one of the more intelligent XC supporters who is actually willing to consider facts and logic. If he has any sort of argument now that XC and Blocknet should still be supported I'd like to hear it.
The passion I once had for following and supporting the XC project has undoubtedly been stifled.
I continue to hold the XC I've been accumulating since May and the BLOCK I purchased before the FUD hit.
Do I think that XC and BlockNET should still be supported?
I think the development of the technology idealized by these projects should be supported, no doubt. This kind of technology has the potential to shape our world for the better. However, going forward I will certainly think more critically about supporting and funding these projects in particular. My faith in the transparency of these particular projects has been irreparably damaged.
