This order appeared when the second down-move had started yesterday (the one that broke down through 29). Not sure if it was even formed by that order (but I'm sure it wasn't that order alone, since at least I myself was shorting).

Where are you shorting? I've been looking for an easy way to short BTC and trade calls/puts but I don't like MPEX

I know you weren't asking me, but I know you can short at Bitfinex. I transferred 10 BTC there yesterday in order to loan it out for someone to short.

How do you enter an iceberg order on MtGox?

You don't. That's what MtGox has an API for.
I would appreciate though to get a pointer to some HelloWorld trading bot to implement such a thing using the MtGox API.

This trading bot in Python seems to use the MtGox API. I haven't looked at it myself yet tough.

I have also made a simple PHP MtGox API connection in the past, but you'd have to contact me by PM.

that ga-bitbot is friggin elaborate. Evolutionary (genetic) algo. I couldn't even get it to do anything (yet). Maybe the api impl is good, though, didn't look.

I see you guys use google trends with different searchwords.
I have a look there too, from time to time. However, all combined searchterms are an order of magnitude lower than simply "bitcoin":

So, don't get too excited when some obscure searchterm has a huge climb, check back with "bitcoin" too ;-)

Bitfinex. They offer Contract-for-Difference, similar to Bitcoinica.
Another possibility to short is ICBIT, where you can trade futures on leverage. This is of course more mid-term, not so much for day trading.

Two slight warnings though:

  • Bitfinex is a comparatively new service, has survived just the first months. Looks OKish, IMHO. Use play money and judge yourself!
  • to solve the "starfish" problem (we know e.g. from Bitcoinica), the Bitfinex guys have created a market for loans for the leverage. This is a real market, i.w. when there is a bull run, the demand for USD rises, and so do the loan rates. Sometimes to absolutely mad levels. Enjoy!

Yeah I know they are much lower. I dont use just "bitcoin" because it could be related to just information. "Buy bitcoins" or "blockchain" on the other hand indicate that the person is actively interested in acquiring a/o holding their coins safely.

It is imposible to buy cheap on tuesdays. This seems more like one last bull trap for this weekend, that shouldn't last more than 6 hours Wink

I guess you're probably correct.  But still probably better to have bought Tuesday than to wait in hope that there's a dip next weekend.  That I won't risk!
