Thanks for always testing with slow internet!

I don't have a whole lot of choice.  There's no copper, fibre optic, or cell phone coverage here, so I have to bounce every packet off a satellite.  In space!

I think for now, we are going to not make this change though. We implemented this change internally, but then saw that it can see it lead to confusion about exactly what hand you're changing the bet size for (especially if you're only somewhat paying attention while you play). Keeping the bet boxes disabled until the next hand has officially started avoids this confusion, and it is also consistent with our other games.

That's fine.

Thanks, Dooglus, for the continued help in improving our product! I've comped your account with another 0.1 BTC. As always, let us know any more feedback you have!

No problem.  It feels good to be able to give feedback to a site and have it listened to, and usually acted upon and deployed within 24h.  You're pretty much unique in that respect in my experience.  Thanks for the comp.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Oh crap, it looks like this was a javascript bug that we introduced today. It has now been fixed. All provably fair functionality was unaffected, only the javascript on the javascript hand verifier was affected.

The technical reason for the problem: we recently moved all of our static assets to be served from assets.bitzino.com (for speed reasons), however we failed to move the assets required by the javascript hand verifier (sha256.js and MersenneTwister19937.js). Now that we've added these files, the javascript bug is no longer present.

Can you let me know your bitZino username? I'll add a comp to your account for helping us find this issue!

Sorry for the brief downtime earlier. We are back up and fully operational now. It appears our hosting provider had some minor issues which affected us as well. We always strive for 100% uptime, so we are looking implementing some redundancies in order to avoid this type of unexpected downtime in the future.

I received 5 blackjacks in a row.  3 in a row is a statistical improbability let alone 5.  I'm done playing here.

I can assure you that our games are fair. In fact, it is computationally impossible for us to manipulate the outcome of any games played at bitZino, due to the provably fair system of shuffling we use across all of your games. I encourage you to read more about it at https://bitzino.com/about/fair!

Aren't blackjacks good?  I don't know why you'd quit playing if you keep being lucky enough to receive blackjacks.  Or did the dealer receive them?

The odds of any two cards from 8 decks being a blackjack are 1 in 21:

Code:
>>> decks = 8; cards = 52*decks; aces = 4*decks; tens = 4*4*decks; print(1 / (((aces * tens) + (tens * aces)) / (cards * (cards - 1))))
21.07421875

So the odds of 5 sets of 2 cards all being blackjacks is that to the fifth power, or 1 in 4.2 million.

If you don't card whether it's you or the dealer who gets the blackjack, the odds drop right down to about 1 in 100 thousand hands of seeing a blackjack 5 hands in a row.

Correction, I was dealt 5 in a row.  How can you call that fair?  Probably not fair.  Props to you my man, you're getting rich!

I was trying to find a record of this occurrence in our gameplay logs, and couldn't seem to pick it out. I was only looking in a limited timeframe though, so maybe I missed it. In total, we have seen 3.5 million hands of blackjack played, so I wouldn't be surprised if this has occurred at least once within our history.

If you'd like, I'd be happy to send you a log of all your gameplay on bitZino. These logs will include all gameplay information as well as all the information required to verify they were dealt in a provably fair manner. You are welcome to verify the provably fair information as well as do any statistical analysis you'd like over the set of data!

I can toss a coin and get heads 5 times in a row, and not because of that I assume that the coin is rigged.
Immediate effects can look skewed, it is the long term what matters.

Flipping a coin is a 50-50 chance.  Answer me this how are the cards dealt in blackjack on bitzino?  Is it a new deck of 52 cards every deal?

Answer me this how are the cards dealt in blackjack on bitzino?  Is it a new deck of 52 cards every deal?

Short answer: our blackjack game uses 8 standard 52-card decks which are reshuffled before every hand.

Long answer: Every single blackjack hand played on bitZino is a fresh set of 8 decks of cards (each of the 8 decks are standard 52-card decks, thus making a blackjack deck contain 416 cards). Before each hand a fresh blackjack deck (containing 416 cards) is shuffled on bitZino's servers using a cryptographically secure random number generator. The hash of this "initial_shuffle" is then presented to you, and your browser are also asked to generate a random "client_seed" (you are also free to manually modify this client_seed). BitZino's servers then reshuffle the deck using the client_seed provided by you as the source of randomness.

This reshuffling process is what allows the game to truly be provably fair. Since our servers have no knowledge of the client_seed until the exact moment the game is starting, it is impossible for us to manipulate the outcome of any games, without making it obvious that we've done so.

I'm happy to answer any more questions about our provably fair process! We also wrote up a detailed technical blog post if you really want to get into the nitty-gritty details: https://techblog.bitzino.com/2012-06-30-provably-fair-shuffling-through-cryptography.html

Gross Error. Flipping a coin 5 times has just above 3% of probability of actually getting all 5 times heads.
5 Coins with 2 possible outcomes in each (head or tails) means 25, which means that there are 32 possible outcomes, with only one outcome being all 5 heads, which means 1/32= 3.125% chance of happening
And yet, it can happen; and that doesn't mean that it is unfair if you get all heads in your first trial, the actual probability is always going to be approximated with a large number of trials.
Please do me a favor and go read about Frequentism.

Full Disclaimer: I never played in bitzino, I have no stakes in bitzino, and I am not defending or advocating bitzino.
I am just saying that it is not necessarily true to call a game unfair based on very limited trials, which will always look skewed without enough sampling.

I still don't understand why you're complaining about winning 5 hands in a row.  It doesn't happen very often, but it happens occasionally.  You got lucky.  Sometimes the dealer will get 5 blackjacks in a row too.

Are you mixing up 'provably' and 'probably'?  They're entirely different concepts.

I'm sorry, let me be more clear.  The dealer had the 5 BJ's in a row.
